Yours looks a little too new for my liking i learned to drive and still drive to this day the same 2008 w900 and i hate when i have to drive something different for the day, it really is an all around amazing truck that once you have the feel for, rides better than a cadillac in my opinion!

    Is it no damage for gearbox, when he do that? I mean, if you will do that on car with manual transmission, you risk break something. Moreover, it is difficult to do that on a simple car.

  • @Albertalorian

    @Albertalorian

    7 жыл бұрын

    Cars and Light Truck transmissions are very different from the transmissions in big trucks. The biggest difference is, truck transmissions don't have synchronizer rings, and they use a different type of gear teeth. This allows you to "float" the drivetrain and slip the transmission in and out of gear without the clutch. However, you can do a lot of damage to the transmission/driveline if you do it wrong. Basically, when it's time to shift, you lift off the fuel pedal, and as the weight of the truck/trailer moving forward, unloads the driveline as the engine rpms fall (going from accelerating to decelerating) you have a small window of time, where you can shift gears without the clutch (because there is no acceleration or deceleration load on the driverline, its "floating") You need to be extremely smooth, and quick, as its very easy to get caught outside of this "float" window, in which case you need to either add RPM to match the speed of the driveline, or use the clutch. The best advice I can give, is practice with a light load or empty trailer, never force the transmission into gear, cover the clutch pedal even when floating, until you really get used to it. Smoothness is the key, the speed will come with practice. Hope that helps!

    I don't understand why the W900 is considered to be such a great truck. I've driven a 660 and 680 and they were the worst trucks I've ever driven. I'd be fine if I never set foot in another KW.

    Those are very different trucks but hey whatever floats your boat buddy :) The W900L is so loved because it has modern technology with old school looks and a very sturdy chassis.

    I do love the look of them. but with my experience with KW is why I don't understand the greatness. I guess I would have to drive one to see for my self. Mack has always been my preference of truck.

    +RubberDuck great responses to all the b.s. comments people try and feed to you!! don't let them get you down, you're doing good, keep it up, don't fall into any bad habits, always stay professional and you will be a good trucker. I've been driving for almost 20yrs myself, my father drove for almost 50yrs. you got a new subscriber here. stay safe!
