The rear diff ratio is the same for all Alltrac/GT4 or transversal AWD Toyota's of the era. The final drive within the transmission is the final drive which is 4.933.

Damn I feel like mine would blow a head gasket if I tried to do that. I can’t wait till I can afford to fix it up. I’ve told my wife I’ll let it rot in the yard before I get rid of it.

It's a lot more like a little go kart than other cars. It's definitely more fun. My other car is a 2017 Hyundai Tucson. It would definitely not spin around nicely like the RAV4. The computer crap would be constantly trying to interfere with my donuts and things.

Hi Paul, thanks for your videos. I kindly request your help and opinion with my 97 Rav4. The radiator fans turn ON when I unplug the radiator fan switch and goes OFF when I short that connector with a paper clip. Of course when I power the car. What could be the problem??

That is a weird problem. Check your radiator fan fuses and relays. Get the cooling fan diagram and test to make sure everything works according to the diagram. The cooling fan is also connected to the pressure switch on the air conditioning system, so check that too. According the the diagram, both fans are switched on when the A/C is on.

Anybody out there know how to get the brake bulb out on the passenger side. Any good videos for a 98 RAV4 brake light replacement on passenger side

if you keep the centre diff open and use a touch of brakes with lots of throttle you can get the first gen rav4 to oversteer nicely. good to see this one getting driven properly.

You're welcome. Yes, it's all wheel drive. (not 4 wheel drive). I explain the difference in the differential video. AWD is a transversely mounted engine, with a front wheel drive transmission sending output to the back. 4WD is a longitudinally mounted engine with a transfer case mounted between the transmission and driveshaft.

It would be a lot of work, and I don't think I would gain anything from it. Plus a manual transmission is more fun! Some people swap the 5th gear for a higher ratio for lower engine rpm at highway speeds.

I suspect it's higher than that. My guess is 60%
