Chris Labrador is right, the gears are extremely easy to grind down with the amount of torque these trucks have. And downshifting is important, but I wouldn't downshift from 3rd to 2nd unless your stopped. 1st and 2nd gear are so low, it'll give you whip lash downshifting in to them while moving. The transmissions are synchronized, however unlike a smaller vehicle, you can still double clutch it as if it were unsynchronized. I've loved these trucks since my first tour in Iraq and still can't get enough of that turbo whistle! Great video!!!!!

Brian Pollick They sure are great trucks! Extremely capable and fun to drive. I generally avoid down shifting when I'm driving this, I find that simply letting off the throttle does the trick well enough usually. I've got to double clutch going into 4th because the synchro is going out. Just another quirk that makes it exciting. Thank you for your service Brian.

+Brian Schamber Sorry, Just a pet peeve. The "synchro" doesn't go out. The term synchro consists of several moving parts and they all work in unison for easy shifting. In general, you can shift without a clutch if you match your the gear you're shifting into with the speed of the output shaft. It doesn't matter if it's up shifting or down shifting. Usually when people say a synchro is going out, it's more than likely the blocking ring that is worn out, or the dog teeth that have ground down and are no longer pointed. Usually by grinding. When you grind gears, you're actually grinding dog teeth, not constant mesh gears of the transmission.

In stock dress they go about 50MPH comfortably. I've got 11.00's on mine so it will cruise at 55 no problem, even 60 with a good tail wind lol. License requirements vary from state to state, in CA you need a nonCDL class B license because it's a triple axle. Good luck in you deuce hunt! They're worth it

Sweet, thanks. Was actually looking at buying one. Didn't want to look like a total noob on the test drive (not to good with double clutching, though i have driven big rigs before)

Do these have synchromatic transmissions? Or do you have to double clutch them when you shift like any other big rig?

I know this sounds dumb but what do you mean by you have 11.00's on it? Different tire size? Engine mod? And whats the fuel mileage like? I saw one on craigslist for 6500 and it had a brand new canvas cargo cover still in the box.

  • @AdventureOften

11.00 is the tire size, they measure about 43" tall. Stock they had 9.00s, which are 39" tall. As best I can tell, with the cover off, it gets about 9-10 mpg. Hard to say because the fuel gauges in these aren't super accurate. Of course that depends on how you drive it as well. If it's in great shape that's not bad, I got mine with a fairly new cargo cover and cab cover for 5000. It is far from pristine though.

It has a synchro trans in it. Mine is slowly going out so I have to double clutch fourth gear to keep it from grinding.

synchro doesnt go out, the way they synchro them is to taper the teeth, if they are non synchro then they have square teeth
