    I'm unashamedly into this thing. You just have to appreciate the attention to detail in the interior. I love how the digital tachometer has a trail of light that sweeps with the needle! It adds a sense of theater to what otherwise would have been an animated line moving up and down.

    I agree with you, the DBX seems like it hits the nail on the head for a high spec road-going SUV much more than the Urus does. If this helps to keep AM alive and their balance sheet in the green, I am all for it! Side note... I'm likely buying an Aston Martin this weekend. I partially blame you and your great V8 Vantage drives! No hard feelings.

Negative points like you said the panel isnt touch, what is really very very weird in luxury brands and the gears buttons are quite weird too.

    Last year I was in the market for a new car. I was replacing a Panamera Turbo Sport Turismo that was about to go off warranty. My other car is an A-M Vantage, so I was of course interested in taking a look at the DBX. I was very impressed with it, especially because it represented A-M's very first foray into the SUV world. My conclusion was that if I was going to buy an SUV, this was the one. I agree with your conclusions regarding what a pleasant vehicle it is to drive. However, I've never been an SUV person, and just can't get over the feeling that I'm way up in the sky and will tip over in the next curve. I ended up with a Panamera Turbo S Sport Turismo. Same car I had before, just with an extra 70 bhp. I still like the DBX, but I made the right choice for me. Price wasn't an issue, because both cars were very close in price. If I lived in snow country, as opposed to driving up to the snow from Southern California, I'd have gone with the DBX for the extra ground clearance.

    Great review! I have have driven hundred of miles in my dealers demo DBX and can totally agree with all the points you made. I often describe it to customers as the car you buy if you want to a fast luxury SUV but don’t want the flashiness of the Urus and more uniqueness than a cayenne turbo or an RSQ8, but want more agility than a Bentayga or a cullinan. As an SUV than can keep up with a 981 Cayman S and a modified S2000 in the twistys but crush highway miles when you need to, it’s amazing.

  • @james9905

    I promise you the weight restricts it from ever keeping up with a Cayman. As someone with a '21 E63S wagon (pretty capable for a sports sedan), I get demolished by all caymans and even Mini Cooper JCWs in the canyons. Im a pretty good driver, too

  • @nvl2691

    @@james9905 Weight has almost nothing to do with it, as it can mostly be compensated by power and grip (notice how heavier and more powerful cars have much wider tyres?). What makes a difference is the center of gravity - how high it is, and how close to the center of the vehicle it is. An SUV has a high center of gravity - which you definitely don't want as it compromises agility. If we're talking tight, twisty, low speed corners, a lighter car will run rings around any heavyweight (agility, again, due to weight placement and center of gravity). But a higher speed canyon with long, sweeping corners? The tables turn...

  • @james9905

    @james9905

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@nvl2691 Yes, even an E63 has a much heavier center gravity than a Cayman. However, weight does play a factor. I tried to keep up with a buddy in his audi TTS in Malibu and the E63 would just plow and wanted to understeer because it’s 4700 pounds. Drive his TT and it was like a go kart, only 3200 pounds.

  • @nvl2691

    @nvl2691

    @@james9905 That's due to center of gravity! The big, heavy V8 placed over the front axle moves the center of gravity a lot closer to the front of the vehicle when compared with a TTS, causing understeer. Enjoy your car man, it's the last of an era...

    When it comes to the infotainment of the newer Aston Martins with the AMG V8s, everything is basically lifted from Mercedes. However, due to their contract with Mercedes, they use the prior generation Mercedes infotainment. So since Mercedes has just started doing touch screens in the last year/two years or so, these new Aston's are stuck with the last gen touchpad/comand nob situation. So that's the reason why the infotainment seems kind of dated or not as intuitive as it would be with a touch screen.

    Am I alone in not being at all enthused about touchscreens in cars? My current car, a 2015 Alfa Romeo Giulietta, has one (albeit only certain functions are done by touch - it still has a bunch of buttons) and I don't really like to use it while driving; I feel I have to take my eyes off the road for too long to be sure I'm tapping on the correct thing. Okay, as far as the DBX goes it would perhaps be nice if it was dual function - maybe enter a nav destination directly on the screen but still be able to use buttons and the scrolly thing. But I definitely prefer to have something I can feel with my fingers, or anchor my hand on. Not that I'm likely to ever even sit in a DBX but given how much space there is in the rear it would be nice if there was an option for two individual bolstered seats rather than the 3-across bench.

    I like Astons, but .. the DBX styling looks too soft, too tall for it's width and not enough like a thug in a tuxedo that their other vehicles look like

    Not for $200,000 suuuuper unequipped. Aston won’t make a lot of money off of it, did you hear the door shut? Sounds terrible. Interior is nothing special AT ALL. It’s a no from me. I’m taking a urus/bentayga/ cullinan/ g wagon.
