Driving RHD in the USA - Importing a TVR to the USA! Update 3

I'm excited to finally share the news that I will be one of the first people in the USA to import a TVR Cerbera!
The TVR Cerbera is a Righ-Hand Drive sports car but here in the United States, it's a Left-Hand Drive world. In this update, not only do I share my import progress, but I'm also joined by my friend, Nicole AKA Niko, who lets me try driving her Right-Hand Drive Mazda RX-7.
Feel free to visit Niko's Instagram and TikTok Pages:

I've always though it was kind of exotic to have the steering wheel on the opposite side to what your'e used to. As an Englishman obviously I'm used to RHD but my one and only (so far!) 'Left Hooker' was a 1980 Thunderbird which was a world away from all the other (RHD) cars I've owned. (Funny story, I traded my old Austin Mini RHD for the LHD Thunderbird and the wife was with me and she was part petrified and part crying with laughter at it!) I've ridden motorbikes in Europe so was riding on the other side of the road and that was challenging enough, especially roundabouts and left or right turns with having to remember which side I was supposed to be on or which way around the roundabout I was supposed to go but it was all good fun. For me the Thunderbird was easy enough as it was automatic but I once had a chance at driving a LHD stick shift whilst on holiday in Cuba so I was sitting on the other side of the car and driving on the other side of the road AND having to deal with the gear changes as well! All was good after I stopped reaching for the window winder instead of the gear lever! I know this is an older video and you have since taken delivery of the TVR but all I'd say is don't sweat it, it's a bit challenging but so very worth it, just take your time to acclimatise and a big tip I can offer is your door mirrors are a very good friend, learn to use them regularly even when your'e happy with your road positioning, and continue to enjoy it!

You both looked slightly freaked out ! I had to get it right (SIDE LITERALLY), coming from NZ, where we drive on the left side too (like UK and Japan); when at 27 y.o. I did 1 lap of AMERICA in '87. Bought a giant '73 Mercury the day I arrived in L.A. for $400. The guy I bought it from, l had to ask how to get it into gear; turns out it had a foot operated parking brake ! Proceeded to do 10,000 miles in a month. Did go down an Interstate OFF RAMP at night near Quartzsite Arizona though....and man that Mercury did easily 40+ mph in reverse when I saw headlights coming toward me ! A new subscriber, who's loving the TreVoR journey your undertaking (and about to undertake again I see); so I started right back at Part 1 !!

It will add even more the the Britishness. Also when you get pulled over the cops will go to the passenger side window 😂😂 I think most people say driving a rhd car in the UK feels OK because you're driving on the left side of the road, but driving a rhd car on the right side of the road feels strange.

Insurance is through Hagerty collector car insurance, and I do all my own work on cars, so I knew going into buying this car, there was no support in the USA aside from social media groups. So, unless you're willing to become an expert, it may not be the right car for your friend

@@AaronsEccentricGarage Haha I meant for me... I'm wanting to buy Tuscan Speed 6. I want an obscure weekend car and was interest in TVRs since project gotham racing. I have the money buy and ship it.. I'm just putting in research (like usuing a foreign VIN and telling the DMV) now to know what I have to do keep it on the road.

@Sean S Hong insurance would be the same process and actually pretty easy. Hagerty or Grundy insurance let's you name the amount you want to insure the vehicle for. Tuscans technically will be legal starting next year but according to the tvr registry, they only made 4 in 1999. So realistically, we gotta wait till 2025 to bring them over.

Sorry just cannot see what the big deal is LHD, RHD, really makes no difference just get in and drive! And yes I grew up in England so learnt RHD but now live in SE Europe where of course it's LHD but I brought my MGF and TR Chimaera both of which are RHD over here then bought a LHD Land Rover Discovery TD5 so have both LHD & RHD cars. The Discovery has gone now replaced by Mercedes C200 CDI also LHD.
