Driving Review - 2013 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport - 6 MT - Test Drive

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Autosavant.com's Kevin Gordon recently had the chance to borrow a 2012 Corvette Grand Sport for a few hours and gave his impressions of the aging American supercar from the road.

    I'm 68...have owned well over 100 cars and trucks in my lifetime including approx 12 Corvettes ranging from my 1954 all the way up to the new 427 Convertible 60th Anniv that I bought last November at Sunnyside Chevrolet in Elyria, OH. Car was virtually still new...got a great deal...drove it home..and can honestly say that it's the finest automobile I've ever owned in my life.

    You can clearly tell throughout this whole video he doesn't want to like the car. I get tired of nerds reviewing these cars and all they can compliment is power, sound and grip as if it's some blunt mindless instrument. There's a lot more to it then that. The ride is comfortable, it has a huge trunk, it gets GREAT gas mileage (his quotes on the highway mpg were low by the way) There is a lot of technology built into it, it is reliable and relatively easy to maintain and upgrade, and whether you like the stripes or not, that is a damn good looking car. Plain and simply the Corvette is a Badass, yet very practical vehicle, and a great bang for the buck. Nerds and Brits who hate to love it, and sneer, and make their pompous ignorant smug remarks can't change that.

    When I punch my C6 the main thing in my mind is shifting Before the Rev Limiter. The plastic interior, the stereo, a ZR1, a C7 or a C8 doesn't even cross my mind! The g-force, the Corvette Smile, it's like a carnival ride!

  • @StormAutoAdventures
    @StormAutoAdventures9 жыл бұрын

    By the way, regarding the interior... I know it gets complaints and whatnot, but I absolutely love it! Hell, I even loved the interior of my previous 2003 C5 Z51 Targa. Everywhere my arm would rest was soft in that C5. The dash and doors are plastic, but it still looks nice. People are so spoiled and are expecting a Bentley or Jaguar interior in a Corvette lol. The C7 is drastically improved, but I am perfectly happy with the interior of my C6. Mine is a 3LT targa model with two tone leather seating + navigation. I couldn't be happier with the car.

    I love my c6 which has a custom exhaust , shift kit and SLP airfilter which my LS3 is now making 452hp and man is it fast. The interior is nice for me and with a Kenwood radio, it's perfect. Great video man

    Very good video. Not many videos can capture the greatness of a performance car and do a review at the same time. Usually its just a little driving but more stationed shots or just talking. I love how you get the info but also hear the engine and see the car perform. That's what us enthusiasts want to see and hear.

    Good info, but coming from a 6MT Corvette owner I can tell you that I would absolutely NEVER put that car in 6th gear at 30 mph. Yeah, sure, it can do it, but you're really beating the hell out of it, lagging the engine like that. The minimum speed that I go into 6th at is 70 mph. Even 5th I save only for 50-55 mph minimum. Anything under that, 1st-4th is perfectly fine and you'll still get amazing mileage for a car like this.

    Such an amazing machine! The only thing I don't care for is the pricing of the C6 in the used market, because my younger brother wanted to buy a 2012 Base C6 Targa with a 6 speed manual, and they're going for like $35,000+ with over 40k miles on them! Some are going for over $40k! A base 2012 with no options was only in the high 40's brand new. He's now looking at 2008-09 Z51 models with under 50k miles, and even most of those are around $30,000 and higher when they have options. He might as well save up a little more and buy a freaking brand new one with how little these cars depreciate. I can't believe people are asking over $30,000.00 for a 7 year old Corvette with over 45,000 miles on it! That's good for me if and when I sell mine eventually, but I feel bad for my brother. The Corvette has been his dream car like it was for me since we were little kids.

    Would you say this car w. Low miles in mint condition or a used 2020 Supra in 5 years from now !? ALso possibly a 2015 Lexus RCF (No manual). These are my 3 prospective “close to retirement” choices for a fun sports car to purchase. I’m guessing all 3 will be in the 20-25k range approximately 5 years from now.

  • @jonj4357

    @jonj4357

    20-25k for a GS with low miles? Not an expert but observing the market, I think these are pretty close to bottoming out on depreciation. They will dip to the high 20s in the coming years but appreciate after that. In the market myself for one next year.

    im biased, but get the vette. The other cars a nice too so it really depends on if you want a backseat or not. THe Camaro and Challenger are bigger and heavier, right now you can get a GS for cheaper than a ZL1 because of the new model coming out.

    "for the base price of $54,000, there just isn't anything that will shove you into the seat like this". I beg to differ. There are the 2013 Roush Stage 3 Mustangs and the 2013 GT500's that will put you in your seat like that for about the same money. I'd go as far as to say a Boss 302 Laguna Seca edition would give this car a REAL hard too as well.

    I don't know a single Vett owner that complains about it, so... not sure where they are getting their info, Ray. Reviewers compare different cars against each other, and that's fine. But, it comes down to which car do you want? A Porsche may be in comparison "better," but not if you would rather have a Corvette (and vise versa). I have a 2012, 100 year edition GS, and I've never seen another one like it. I love that. I can't imagine parting with it! It's well built, and hasn't given me trouble. Love the new ones, but mine will have to fall apart for me to consider "upgrading."

    Yes and no,..............Corvettes are the gatekeepers of the SuperCar house. In order to be a SuperCar you have to be able to offer all around performance on par with or exceeding a Corvette. The best bang for the buck sports car out there. But GM MUST fix the seats,.........terrible for any car. The seats in my 1974 Toyota Celica were more supportive.
