DRIVING IN ALBANIA 🚙 | Durres & Berat Travel Vlog | Car Rental Tirana

Road trip vlog starts! We grabbed a car rental in Albania with Easy Rent Cars, leaving Tirana we travel to Berat via Durres. Book your car here: bit.ly/2YkbCFj discount codes are below ⬇
To make this car rental in Albania happen we used Easy Rent Cars, the same company we hired a car with in Croatia last year and the road trip is off to a great start! More about them below, but book your car here: bit.ly/2YkbCFj here's the discount codes we mentioned:
Code 1: erc08 to save 8% off any booking
Code 2: erc35 to save $35 off the total price if you're booking a rental over $300
A car in Albania is vital if you're planning a road trip, while we were based in Tirana we knew it was necessary to look into rental cars and eventually commit to hire a car to see the country. Albania isn't really at the point where they have decent tourist travel options, while you could rent a driver or hire a guide to help you travel the country for a while - the best option really is to have your own car, plan a road trip and travel
Today we travel to Durres first on our way to Berat, the white city. A fun day exploring, so many amazing locals, crazy drivers on the road and just all in all an epic adventure.
🏠 This is our Berat accommodation, amazing place with modern rooms and breakfast! Funny story actually, you'll see in the next vlog: geni.us/0AmdH Note - if you book ANY accom worldwide through this link it helps us a lot! If you're booking some accom just click on the link first :)
Easy Rent Cars now also offer a "Cashback"option that will be worth looking at. After completing payment, you can click "send to messenger" to start. If your reservation is confirmed, you get a random amount of cashback 7 days after you returned your car.
Disclaimer: Easy Rent Cars helped make this road trip and vlog happen by sponsoring this video. As always, our opinions are both genuine and strictly our own.

In Greece first thing ppl ask you when they hear you’re from Albanian is are you orthodox or Muslim ( I’m Catholic) I’m turkey I was there 1 month no one ask me my religion but everyone was friendly when they hear you are Albanian. Greek are very ignorant and Turks look more white than Greeks which shocked me

Hey Russell , I totally get how you only heard negatives about Albania , but that's what the news always show : the negatives .... There's a lot of Albanians who emigrated to GB , the majority of which you never hear about cuz they just live their lives peacefully , in addition you also get the gangsters and uneducated people , who have given Albania the reputation it doesn't deserve to have . Peace and Love from an Albanian in Germany

The warm welcome you have recieved in Albania is something of a tradition here dating from way back. Even during communism, when some people were so poor they barely had anything to eat, they still respected the guest and tried to offer him whatever they had. For the most part, this tradition has survived today too. Sadly, just like any other place, you can't hope for everyone to be good. However coming across a douchebag is very rare, so I hope you guys don't get unlucky and I hope you enjoy your stay. I might be a little biased, but I would like to say, there are a lot of beautiful places here. The alps of the north have breathtaking scenery, and the rocky beaches in the south are beautiful and refreshing. Sadly, because of a lack of investment for political reasons that I would not like to get into, the infrastructure is still lacking for a country which hopes to turn tourism into its main economic subject. Maybe the "virginity" of the beaches is somewhat attractive to some people, so there are some positives to it, but the situation must change. There are a lot of beautiful places which are unaccessible for tourists and that is a big shame. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed Albania, hopefully in the near future it will get even better.

I am really surprised by the comments, isn’t Albania on the list of the most visited countries in the world. I heard this year they are getting around 6.5 million tourists, and that puts it in the top 40 in the world, for example Brazil only gets 6 million.

We've never met anyone who's been to Albania before, wouldn't have expected it to be in the top 40 at all. In the UK they get a bad rep for drugs and gangs etc apparently so tourism is still very slow from that side.

@@DanegerAndStacey Per capita , albania factually is almost on par with greece. This year the number will reach circa 7 million foreign visitors which is an exponential increase of 800 % this past decade. However given the small population , in absolute terms the number of tourists cannot compete against the one in (much) bigger countries. All the best to you two , as an albanian i need to thank you for your flattering videos :) !

Loved this! I think we are going to go to Dürres (on the bus though) when we go to Tirana. I hope you don’t mind, but I have a practical question - was it easy getting a SIM card? What did you need, any ID? I’ve never been to a non-EU country in Europe, so our UK phone data won’t work in Albania or Macedonia. Thanks! Safe journey, I’m really looking forward to the beach video 😊

Albanian hospitality is a very important part our Albanian culture. Fun fact: During WWII Albania was the only country in the world in which Jewish population numbers grew. This because Albanian people would never ever hand out the Jewish people to the nazis. It is contrary to the essence of Albanian culture to do that. And so word spread, and many Jews travelled from other countries to Albania to find refuge. Albert Einstein made his way to the USA via Albania.

09:00 Fruit with syrup is just jam. I thought jam was the same everywhere in the world, fruit with syrup. When it's homemade organic jam, Albanains like to serve just a little bit to guests, on a small plate, because it's way too sweet and you wouldn't be able to eat much. It's kind of an old tradition to serve homemade jam (never from supermarket jars). My grandma used to boil our garden fig fruits into jam. It was delicious.

Have a look at 08:47 - it's not jam, it's some kind of firm fruit or something. We still have zero idea what it was! The jams we tried through out Albania were all delicious though, so many little local shops with lovely ladies letting us taste.
