We move, on this occasion, to one of the most beautiful communities in Spain, as its slogan indicates, we are in Asturias, Natural Paradise. We start from the coastal town of Ribadesella to go up the Sella River on the way to Arriondas, a very popular area for practicing infinite multi-adventure sports, such as canoeing, rafting, canyoning, caving ... (https: // www. turismoasturias.es/en/turismo-activo/fluvial).
We continue on the road to Cangas de Onis, where we can see hundreds of small hotels, inns and hostels that give shelter to the many travelers who come to this area, attracted by its multi-adventure offer and its great gastronomy.
We finish this first part of the video at the Real Sitio de Covadonga, a spectacular Sanctuary, where we can see its Holy Cave and its Majestic Basilica of Covadonga. Sign of identity and religious devotion of Asturians
Its founding origins are linked to the Battle of Covadonga and the beginning of the Asturian Monarchy, which constituted the first Christian Kingdom of the Iberian Peninsula.
Nestled in an environment of spectacular beauty, the Real Sitio de Covadonga is a complex in which the Santa Cueva - where the Virgin is located - and the Basilica stand out, without forgetting the Museum, the headquarters of the Escolanía, the houses of the Canons and the Abbot, or the Gran Hotel Pelayo -with more than one hundred years old-.
The Basilica of Santa María la Real de Covadonga was declared as such in September 1901. The temple was designed by the scholar Roberto Frasinelli, popularly known as "the German of Corao", and built between 1877 and 1901 by the architect Federico Aparici and Soriano. Neo-Romanesque in style, it is built entirely of pink limestone. This temple came to replace the old one, destroyed in a fire in 1777, and which was adjacent to the Holy Cave.
Covadonga treasures more than a thousand years of legends and stories linked to Christianity and the dawn of the construction of a territory, and it has become a place of devotion and spirituality for the thousands of pilgrims who visit it each year.
For Asturians it is a spiritual symbol and a sign of identity, to such an extent that Asturias Day is celebrated every year on September 8, coinciding with the feast of the Virgin of Covadonga.

What a wonderful road trip in Asturias. I have had a road trip in Northern Spain including Asturias. It was raining when I was in Asturias, but still enjoyed it so much. It's really nice to see it on a sunny day.

Hi, thanks a lot for sharing this one, as I didn't drive on most of these roads during my roadtrip to North Spain in 2019. I took As114-N625-N634 back then, so basically just the section from Arriondas to Cangas de Onis was familiar to me. Now let's see also the ascent to the lakes. Greetings from Germany!

Pues he estado mirando y el hotel que hay en Covadonga tan guapo, el Grand Hotel Pelayo no es caro, está por los 50 euros, a lo mejor es ahora por la pandemia, pero me ha sorprendido. Impresionante el recorrido que hiciste, es una zona que me gustaría visitar. No conocía Ribadesella y me ha parecido alucinante, un lugar ideal para vivir.
