Just did 600 miles in a MYLR and the roadtrip experience is so great in a Tesla! Autopilot is freaking amazing on highway trips and the seats are the best I've ever felt
Beautifully done!
Really liked your video, dealing with serious snow. Those Goldens are beautiful dogs! The best dispositions of any breed, I would say. Considering a Tesla Model 3 here in coastal New England, where we've mostly gotten rain so far this winter. Was interesting watching how you deal with bad weather on road trips with your Tesla. CA has to be Ground Zero for EVs in the US, with so many charging stations!

Woohoo! I love SD. I want to go to that famous donut shop in downtown SD soon
I drove my MYP to the Stevens Pass in WA couple times on winter snowfall. My all season Michelin tires are very comfy and handles really nice on winter road conditions. Love them. So if you want to decrease battery usage than I found best to just leave defrost/ defogging mode on to your windshield and off climate. You will see about 3-5% savings and its pretty comfy to drive. Heated steering wheel and heated seats will keep you warm. If you like to drive with climate on than I prefer to keep everything in Auto, so car will manage itself how much to heat your cabin, seats, steering wheel to save your battery juice. Cheers
BTW you can create Snow Mode by turning on Track mode and turning off regen braking and moving power to front wheels. Enjoy.

I don't understand where people get the idea that FWD is good for snow??? Why would you rather have a FWD than an AWD, it makes no sense whatsoever. The FWD myth works only on trash ice cars with poor weight distribution, where most of the weight is upfront so it gets more traction on those wheels. I hope you understand that this Tesla has slightly more weight over the back wheels, so using the front wheels only makes it worse.

Looks like you had fun! I visited California from Wisconsin in my Model Y last summer, and enjoyed the drive out there and back. Thinking about visiting parts of southern California this year. Road tripping in a Tesla is so much fun thanks to the supercharger network, and Autopilot doing the boring mundane driving on the interstate.
Wow! Great road trip. I got a 2022 Model Y Performance and love doing road trips with it. Went to Vegas first week of January to attend the CES Convention all the way from NorCal.

I live in new england. Most of my friends who own a Tesla also own gas SUVs for road trips especially in winter. Tesla is ok for everyday city or office trips. Will not recommend it for road trips but it's ok if you plan it well. But still, there's some worry in the back of your mind..
@MattCasters

I've been doing these long ski trips for 6 years now and it's really not that bad. Tesla cars shine in cold weather because of their ability to warm up the car remotely from the app. Traction on the 4WD is astonishingly good IMO because of the high weight of the car. Stopping every couple of hours to charge is no issue since the car tells you where and when and how long. You only need to make sure you have some charge to leave the car for a week in the cold if you can't plug it in like Chris. If you can plug it in leave some room in it for breaking when going down when the car charges back up.
Lol! The way you were shoveling!
I haven’t been to Tahoe in years. Looks nice. I was in Reno in October and the sc rates were .23. Can’t remember if they were v2 or v3 chargers.
Another one out of the park, Chris! Loved watching your dogs frolicking in the snow. You're definitely giving them their best life. You're not doing to bad for you and Jan, too! I love Tahoe. I haven't been there in decades, and I miss it. Hint: Tajon is pronounced tuh-HONE. ;-)

Considering purchasing a model Y this year. Any major problems or issues with the vehicle so far? This is going to be my first electric vehicle
Hey Chris! I’m from OC. I have a model 3 right now and upgrading to model y in the next couple of weeks. I have always carried tires socks on my model 3 but haven’t dared to try them in harsh conditions yet. How have the tire socks treated you? Have they worked well? Wondering if I should have chains or socks in my 4 wheel y for emergency situations
@EverydayChris
Жыл бұрын
For sure works. But Have them on front and rear tires! I'll do a video soon!
@warrior15r
Жыл бұрын
@@EverydayChris that would be cool. There’s a lot of different options for socks too on amazon. I’ve wondered about longevity. I’ve read comments about how they don’t last long. There’s also not too many newer KZread videos on socks either so the video could be handy for years. 😄 My model 3 is 2018 long range single motor. I’m handing it to my brother - still curious if it still works well for single motor. They’ve been sitting in the car unopened. I’ll be sure to get 2 sets to make sure the Y has all 4 tires covered should I need them.
When I was at tahoe a month ago my model y could barely keep the windshield fog free. I tried defog, defrost, auto, manual, nothing worked. Only the areas directly above the vents are fog free. It was cold, and there were 4 adults and 4 sets of wet gears in the car so it was probably hard for the system to dehumidify the cabin. Never happened to me in my other cars though. It was very frustrating.

I'm thinking of buying a Model Y for driving in Canada and this is my concern. The youtube videos of driving in Canada don't mention this. Could you kindly elaborate? It is simply a matter of allowing the car to pre-heat or using more battery power so that it can keep the cabin toasty and free of frost or as the Tesla heaters not powerful enough to heat the cabin?
Informative video!
@EverydayChris
Жыл бұрын
Thank you!
Your friends car slid, because the parking brake is only on one axle (back axle) and the normal hydrolic breaks (used while driving & parking) loose the breaking-preassure after some time. Always keep this in mind when parking a Tesla (or any EV) on a slope that has snow or ice. If its asphalt or concrete its not an issue.
16:44 I think the snow on those cameras was already melted before you turned on defrost. I live in Idaho Falls and when it snows the car automatically defrosts when the cameras are obscured by snow so the cameras can record motion when Sentry Mode is active. I'm not sure if it does that with Sentry Mode off.

About your tire chain/traction device 20:15 I'm surprised AWD wasn't enough to handle the snow. I've seen other TMY in snow with no tire traction added. Did you just add them as a precaution or do you feel the conditions mandated you have them for safety?
