Driving a Survivor 1966 Plymouth Barracuda

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

It's not loud. It's smooth and quieter than most modem "muscle" cars that try to be what a Barracuda was.

you know what's crazy about driving a classic car on the road is? other drivers tend to drive differently around you than if you were in a regular modern car. i notice that people tend to not ride your ass or cut you off driving a classic car. its almost like people get in some type of trance state when they drive near a classic car as if the car is resonating some kind of orea from it. it's really strange how people react differently around them.

My first car. Dark blue 66 Barracuda. $250 certified. Bought about 2 months after I got my license at age 16. Biggest back window I've ever seen. The back seat folded down flat and the back was carpeted. The trunk partition even folded down. With the seats folded down there was a pretty large carpeted area. The chromed gas filler pipe was the only thing that intruded into that back area on its way from the gas cap to the gas tank. It had a small-block 273ci V8, but to my surprise it had a 4barrel carb. I think it put out in the neighbourhood of 200HP. Automatic, with a Vacuum gauge. iirc it had disc brakes, which wasn't on every car back then. Damn, I miss side vent windows and that massive back window with zero blind spots. The first gen cudas were great almost-pony cars that deserve more respect.

Aw, that's sad. The worst part of being a car guy is seeing a savable car rot into the ground while the owner doesn't bother selling it to someone who can give it new life. I know a guy who knows a guy who's father as not one but TWO Jag XKE's 1 being 1962 model year and 1 being a 1963. Let's just say I heard he bought them but now they're rotting in his backyard.

For some commenters, it was relaxing to watch- not so much for me. Then I figured out it was because of my mother's incessant sawing motion. Her favorite car was her '66 Belvedere, which Dad could drive for hours with his left arm on top of the rolled down window, an unfiltered Camel in his right hand, and very little steering wheel movement. When we traded for a '68 Dodge Polara with power steering and brakes (noted as P/S, P/B in ads back in the day), we learned to ignore the arm movement and brace for stops. Taking my friends to school in a new Cordoba, they said she seemed to be dodging pebbles. Now 79, she still does it her LeSabre. Actually I can't remember when I rode with her last. I always drive her.

  • @olikat8

+Spike Club - the Formula S version came with fast ratio steering, front disc brakes, sway bar, higher rate springs, wider rims, and 60-series rubber from the factory. Even limited-slip differential was available. A lot better handling than you'd expect from the '60's. Problem is, not many people did't know how (or why) to order this option package. Nowadays, you can take all this up a notch or two very easily and they can handle well

If working properly, Chrysler drum brakes would put you through the windshield. Once. Then they were too hot to work very well after that.

Uh yeah automatics were optional starting in 1949 on a lot of cars. Most muscle cars are manual though.

If your power brakes fail and you are left with manual brakes, yeah that is scary. But when the car is designed with manual brakes it requires more pedal pressure, but should not be scary unless there are other problems.
