Well done Luke. You drove really well for your first time in London. That road that you drove is the Old Kent Road. Its always fu**ing shite mate. Totally aviod it on Friday evening rush hour as you're average speed will be about 3mph. Also, always check the bus lane hours of operations. Normally on Sundays, and on evenings, you can drive in the bus lane, but always check the blue signs first. But overall, well done mate. You did really well for your first time driving in London mate

Personally, I don’t think driving in London is as bad as some people make out ! Just take your time and plod around. It’s a busy city so has certain problems like suicidal cyclists and other drivers rushing around. I think the main problem is lack of available parking when you need to take a break and Industrial Estates with double parked cars everywhere, blocking junctions etc. Obviously the more time you spend delivering in London the easier it gets as you get more familiar with the place. Just remember to have a 45 min break (whether you need it or not) before you cross the M25 on the way in........

I do container as well, here in America. Oklahoma City to Dallas railyard and back 6 days a week, about 425 miles a day. Not too bad, I do drop and hook thankfully so no waiting and they have an app so I can punch the info in when I start the day, just scan in and scan out, about 30 seconds if no line.

Hi Luke, reminds me of a driver delivering to a RDC in Lancashire who handed in his car/house keys so as he had power in the cab, later when he was green lighted he drove back to Bristol without collecting his keys as he had forgotten what he had done. Really enjoy your Vlogs, good luck for 2018.

You're a brave man driving through London in an arctic. I used to hate driving through London in a van let alone a massive lorry. London is a dog eat dog world, you gotta just go for it sometimes when driving through it to get into the correct lane etc.

You have to completely switch mentality when driving in London. Outside London, people are quite polite and sensible. In London, you HAVE to be a little aggressive because people are arseholes. You get used to the roads and getting yourself out of tight situations without hitting anything.

well, yeah, I find the same on motorway networks near cities, the closer you are, the more looney's driving at 90 and tailgating, hence why I prefer to usually just sit behind a lorry in the inside lane, much less stressful, and most artic are driven sensibly

I drove in london a lot when I worked for a well known food chain, and it gets easier every time, it also helps to know where you are going, that comes with every visit. And dont't forget, as from the 25th October 2021 your vehicle has to be ULEZ compliment otherwise a big fine for HGV's of £100. The boundary will be the North and South Circular, but using the North and South Circular does not count.

Those bus lanes are only active at specific times, can’t remember what the times are but it’ll say at the bottom of the blue sign at the beginning of the bus lane. It’s best not to use them at all in a truck though because it gets you away from some of the cyclists, also when you get to a stopped bus or a parked car it’s unlikely anybody will let you out.

just so you know bus drivers will help each other out, as a bus driver myself i help out many bus drivers everyday, so just so you know in future occasions if a bus driver pulls out or goes round a roundabout slowly it is to help another driver out. could also be used as a block in traffic for HGV drivers.

Dirty End: Bit of an extreme toilet if you also need respiratory equipment to use it.... No, it's just an asbestos extractor's decontamination room (which features a shower/wash system.) You are right about London drivers though. However the delay at lights is usually because drivers are looking around for red light jumpers, dozy peds or kamikaze cyclists. Nice vid mate! More of this please.. 👍 👍

About the bus lanes. You just have to watch which bus lanes you enter. There's the 24 hour one where you can never enter without getting a fine. Then there's the timed ones, which are usually 7:00-10:00am and then later its 4:00-7:00pm, when you can't enter, outside of these times, you can

I don't mind driving in London but the more you do it the easier you'll find it and the more confident you'll be etc Its when you don't see any tall buses or trucks etc as usually there is a low bridge or a width restriction which can be fun at times

My first time in London was in a Luton, delivering windows and doors to a building site. I got there at about 2am intending to sleep in the cab outside the site. The drive in was okay except for a few width restrictions that even the Luton didnt meet. Offloaded by 7am and then the anxiety set in. What a fucking nightmare! People wandering into the road without looking, mopeds trying to squeeze in the gap between me and buses then hammering on the side of my van because there wasnt enough room (Hardly my fault) then riding down the pavement. Then the cyclists. Kamikazes the lot of them. Ive never known rage like it. I frightened my self. I've never been made so angry before in my life. Jumping lights, jumping off the pavements into my path. Shouting and bawling at me for turning left when they run up my inside when Im clearly indicating left. I check my nearside mirrors, indicate, check again and go to turn and suddenly they are there! Then them doing the same to me and other drivers. Over taking on my right then turning left immediately in front of me???? Nutters. Ive been told that I will be going on a cycle awareness course for when I go to london in my truck (Class2) The cyclists should be going on a HGV course to see what its like for us when we cant see them. I didnt find the car drivers as big a problem. Buses were okay too which supprised me. Down where I live they are total twats. Be interesting to see what its like in a Truck. Im expecting the same. Maybe people will be more wary of the truck or maybe im just wishing...

@ArmageddonRacing sounds like American trucking industry lol. It'd be cool I think at some point to come drive in Europe somewhere, get paid to sort of tour it and live there like 5-10 years, enough to see as much as possible. UK however would not be first on the list for me, doubt many will hire an American driver used to driving on the right in a left hand driver side. I have no issue at all driving on the left it's when you also put the driver side on the right where it's a little more difficult. I just hug the right line more then I think I should because I've found for me I think I'm too far right but really I'm where I need to be. Mind trick lol

When you said people drive differently in London, I lived there in '89 or '90, maybe '91, I forget exactly when, but London drivers are very forgiving (back then, by my experience) and equally polite and allow other drivers to make progress. A good mantra to live by, but DON'T follow the same rules in Edinburgh, they're mostly a**holes with no care for any other driver... I hated deliveries in Edinburgh
