Driver's Eye View - Tisovec to Jesenské - Slovakia

After a very enjoyable stay in Brezno, we board a coach outside our hotel for the trip to Tisovec where we re-join our Grumpy diesel and its rake of five carriages for a day exploring more picturesque Southern Slovakian secondary and branch lines as we make our way to firstly to Jesenské, before continuing to the beautiful town of Kosice.

    Hi Bob, Slovakia is a beautiful country that has yet to become a mass tourist destination. Only two or three cities and a few ski resorts are really known outside the country. The tour I was travelling with was a one off, aimed at people with an interest in railways.

    Piękna podróż, pośród cudownych krajobrazów, ale najbardziej podobają mi się te zjawy postaci ludzkich, pojawiających się znikąd i rozpływających w przestrzeni.

    I like this run, and I especially like seeing that little rail bus at 24:50 since it tells me that the line is regularly used. There's nothing quite as lonely as a disused railway track.

    I can't believe I'm still uploading videos from this tour, one of, if not the best tour I've ever taken part in. It is wonderful that the whole system has survived almost in tact, it gives a good insight to how Britain's railways must have looked before Beeching closed so many lines. Disused railways are fascinating, but it is rarely used railways that really draw me. When I was visiting Australia I noticed the railway continued beyond Kuranda, that is one I'd like to re-visit to see if it is possible to actually ride beyond Kuranda.

    Hello Tim! Nice morning trip with beautiful landscapes, very well! I very glad returned to watching your Slovakia travel now. Take care, and have sunny autumn day! Chuck P.S. Is very reasonable uses a train-bus with one vagon, like showed at 25:00+, for small and on low-loaded lines.

    Sitting in the cab of a railway locomotive, has to be the best way to see the attractive Slovakia countryside. I was surprised at how many of the little rail-busses we passed, they provide a really useful regular service.

  • @chucksandos8939

    @chucksandos8939

    Sure the Slovakia railway system maybe has very reasonable brains on the board, who have common sense. And the little rail-busses I noticed in your first video about main station in Bratislava, include Simens maked trains by one and two-vagon. Several years ago in Bulgarian Railway thought about it too. And several trains, maybe Simens too, runs from Sofia along secondary lines. But to us, even between regional center and border with Greece (near us), although there are not enough passengers, there are 5 or 6 trains with 4-6 vagens, so half empty. This is certainly unprofitable because of excessive energy costs.

  • @Timsvideochannel1

    @Timsvideochannel1

    The little rail-busses are better than no train at all. They are also used here in the UK on lightly used railways. I saw Siemens multiple units in Bulgaria, both electric and diesel. I also noticed two or three carriages pulled by a large electric locomotive on several lines in Bulgaria, good for railway enthusiasts, bad for the operating department.

  • @chucksandos8939

    @chucksandos8939

    Well, the operating department can use 3x doubled personal computers for 100% automated control to any RW, with how huge traffic, and on any country, and in the world in whole if railway's people take real common sense in the world... I think :-)

    Note the steam engine on the speed limit sign. Several others in this video, in close proximity to the highway, so motorists don't think it is their speed limit, though if I were in charge, I would make the drawing a red Bardotka, anatomically correct. 28:39

    I think your observations about the inclusion of a steam engine on the signs could well be correct, pictures of Brigitte Bardot on the signs might prove a little distracting.

    Hi, that steam locomotive means, that if front of locomotive pass that sign, it can speed to that speed (normally, entire train need to pass that sign). It is only used on unprotected levelcrossings where speed is lowered because of crossing.

    My Dad used to come home with a pheasant he run down occasionally, not quite the same as knocking a cow down, but along the same lines. I still remember the look on my Mum's face as he expected her to prepare the bird for the pot, she'd rather have gone to the supermarket to buy one ready prepared.
