Driver: Parallel Lines - Late 2005 Beta Vehicles & Characters

Merry Christmas everyone!
This is a video that I've always wanted to make. Originally I wanted to show only the different vehicles, but in the end I decided to show all of them. They are a complete snapshot of the progress done until 2nd December 2005 and majority of them were last modified in mid-late November. The characters are even earlier, dated 29th October 2005, with some of them dating way back to July and August.
While the earlier vehicles aren't exactly a new discovery as some of them can be found documented on Driver Madness (drivermadness.net/forum/viewto..., I managed to find the earlier character models, which weren't documented before! Even very early TK, a never before seen model of Slink with coat and some very interesting placeholder models. Note that in the differences shown about the two hippies, beta files seem to load palette #2 by default, whereas the final files load palette #1.
Also as a side note, I've noticed that Wayfarer Turbo and Torrex Turbo didn't exist yet at that point of development. And it's a real shame that there's currently no way to view the Eurotech Lifter (which also comes with 4 bodyworks!), but maybe that'll be possible some time in the future.
Hopefully one day an early 2005 build will resurface, but so far this seems to be the closest it's possible to get to early DPL content.

That music is super funky. I really like the cars. It's something I always thought the Driver series did well.
As a child, I often played this game and learned absolutely everything that is available to an ordinary player. It's so nice to learn something new about this game. Thanks for the video

probably something to do with copyright i do believe a few companies in the mid 2000s had smiley faces as logos and they probably didn't want to risk being sued
Sadly most vehicles look like final but some have some different like Torrex Rosalita and racer version use darker window texture

Indeed. I really hope an earlier 2005 build surfaces some day, so we can see that beta Zartex with early lightbar finally!

Is the first song from Turbo Dismount? And in the final with the all cars unlocked cheat there's supposedly a weird turbo version of the taxi but it's either the same as stock or it doesn't load the model (been too long since I played) And merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas! Nope, very first track is from DPL Demo. As I've mentioned in the description, Wayfarer Turbo wasn't created yet at this point in development which explains its absence. Working on a TCRF article currently and it'll be up soon documenting all differences 😉
The paramedic was a beta vehicle, too EDIT: maybe it wasn't, but I don't think I've ever encountered it in the 2006 era on PC version. The 1978 paramedic did spawn in traffic sometimes, the 2006 version not AFAIK

Driver parallel lines in my word book its the meaning of my beautiful childhood i miss this game and will love it forever. memoriiiies and childhood is great. The think i love most about the game is the era change. When i turned 6 years old i still played this beautiful game and i accidently restarted the game. I cried and begged to my brother to help me complete the era change because it was so cool to play in 2006. And the songs on the radio. Do we really have to talk about them, just perfect songs. I even used to sing them in my daycare. This game needs more attention.

I still have my copy on Wii used to play it a lot in 2009, recently i brought a good copy of the PS2, lots of differences!
Gotta admit, looking at the Grand Valley and Rosalita, I honestly feel like the beta versions look cooler. Their roofs fit them really well. But I guess they maybe wanted a bit more variety so they kept a few cars as convertibles

Actually my understanding of it is because that was causing them problems with the LOD's as you could otherwise see them with a roof from distance, but actually that particular spawned variation won't have a roof attached. It's really noticeable and looks bad. Further proved by how we got San Marino and San Marino Spyder.

@@RacingFreak I guess anything's better than nothing. Even though I would've loved to have seen them in their original form in the game, I'm still used to the convertible versions, especially Grand Valley. I kinda have a soft spot for classic cars
Man, i truly wonder where the Beta or Alpha Brooklyn, Namorra and San Marino are. Those cars looked more closer to their real life counterpart.

No idea honestly. Probably they messed up and packed a lower resolution texture which is still the same as final, but the model is missing the rear bumper.
The sounds is so sexy
Zartex in the beta should have sirens like a 1980's car.

It did, but only in the earlier beta builds of which we don't have any yet. Sadly, only the final version survives in the late beta and demo files from November 2005.

@@RacingFreak Oh ok. I was think in early beta the Zartex still have the 80's sirens.

@@bigaz005 I don't know if the siren sound was changed, but the lightbar for sure was. It looked more like M700's lightbar. I think it might've been on the model still in September 2005, but that is just an assumption.

This Beta skins on some characters sure were weird. Looks like they didn’t have a skin texture yet for some of them
