I'm a Scratch Golf Academy member and have been a fan of Adam's Full Swing Master Series for years. Over the last few months I slipped into some bad mechanics with my driver, i.e., pull hooking the ball. I couldn't figure it out until I saw this video and realized my head wasn't staying behind the ball. INSTANT FIX!!!! Now hitting strait arrows again with the driver. Thank You Eric and Adam. Great instruction.

Your method of explaining what you teach is by far the best out there, easily. My swing is now heavily influenced by Sam Goulden’s method (thanks for doing a video with him in the past!), but I always watch your videos to better understand the overall swing and what I might not be doing quite right. Really insightful presentation of the information.

I have huge issue with driver. Even today I know, was missing something but this lesson will give me positive result. As old golf, out of touch I forgot some basic things which you reminded me. Every bit of this is Money.. The Effort is in the Discipline. The Ball is not going anywhere . (until you strike it) The Buckle Rotating toward the wall as your head stays back is an acquired taste, but so worth it. The Left hand is effort-ing to stay as far away as the right Humerus is chasing the Buckle. This lays the Shaft down in order to hit up on the ball. Nice teamwork guys. Stay Safe my friends. Dave

Adam, this video helped me shoot the lowest round of my life this week. I was struggling with my driver and everything felt off, couldn’t keep it in play. I focused on feeling like the club was behind me and I was hitting farther and straighter than I have all season. I’m a 10 handicap and was playing like a scratch golfer. Shot 74 at a course where I’ve never broken 80

Great lesson!! Really helpful for my downswing and head movement issues. One question - why is it that during my practice swings I seem to be able to follow your steps but as soon as that round golf ball is in front of me all of those steps go out the window & I am back to my old habits? Am I a overthinking the swing once the ball is in play? Thank you.

@@Scratchgolfacademy Thank you Adam. Well since watching I have been out today and played 9 holes, could not believe how good using this swing has made me. I even hit 2 driver shots from fairway, fantastic outcome. After seven holes one of my playing pals said you are swinging differently it looks so leisurely, so I explained! for the next 2 holes, particularly his drives he became converted. they say you can't teach an old dog new tricks, well he is 80 years of age . So you should have another subscriber. Oh by the way I played 4 shots better than my handicap so very big thank you. Neil.

one of the things that helped me hit it far and accurate was to imagine i was going to pass the clubhead over a coin about 2 inches behind the ball in order to hit up and straight, otherwise i would try to hit the ball and pull it since it is close to my left foot, once i got that down and pulled my head back like in your video i've been averaging about 265 and have even hit a few over 300, mind you, the wind affects it a lot, it's not that i am a great driver, but i can swing it properly, and mind you, i am 49 years old

Adam I'm a golfer that tends to get stuck so I've been working on handpath trying to get my hands to work more out. To shallow the driver do I need the feeling of twisting my hands clockwise on the downswing?

I'm afraid it's hard to say without seeing you swing. If you twist the hands it should be subtle, or something else is likely the problem. Hope this helps. Best, Adam

you need to type in how to get unstuck in the golf swing, because you don't want your hands to to out. You want your hands to be closer to your body. Just youtube it.

I understand keeping the club head far away though in other videos we see examples where on the downswing your hands and the handle are closer to your body, so you can whip around. So when you say keep your hands as far away is that just really the feeling of the club head and your hands can get closer to your body?

Keith, It's really a general feeling for the start of the downswing. I agree, the hands should get pretty close to the right leg approaching impact. All the best, Adam

Hi Adam. First fine watching your videos. Coming down with hands and keeping the club far away from the ball in downswing is my biggest problem. I started working on this and finally started hit some nice drives. Does the work with irons? I tried it and was taking big divots and hitting behind the ball.

Thanks Terry. Yes, more or less the same with irons, but you have to engage your body to move the bottom out point past the ball. All the best, Adam

Thanks for another great video...I picked up some helpful tips I will try out at the range. One question about capturing my swing on video....do you recommend I shoot the video in Slow-Mo mode on my iphone to better see what I'm doing during the swing or should I video at regular speed to see the motion of the swing movements in real time?

Scratch Golf Academy Thanks for the reply Adam. I’ll definitely check out the golf app you mentioned. As you suggested in the video, I tried to keep the club head as far from the ball as possible in the downswing and while there’s still work to do to get it worked out in my swing, I was hitting a draw today - which I’ve never done with my driver!! Thanks for this tip.

Isn't your visualization of hitting the nail on the downswing somewhat like Sergios 'yanking the chain' which many criticized?

  • @Scratchgolfacademy

John, I suppose it is. Visual keys are generally so much easier to play with than conscious thoughts about body parts (elbow, hip etc). I'm fine with whatever image people come up with, as long as it helps them swing better. Best, Adam

So really drop the arms at the downswing. And leaning back isn't bad but you have to keep the weight forward and going forward it's a lean back for vision and to ensure you hit around , behind and up on the ball?

Adam and Eric I find that if I consciously turn my head to the right on the downswing, in effect not trying to make contact with the imaginary wall, that my left hip simultaneously turns away to the left clearing the way for the hands to come through. This seems to be opposite to what you are teaching so am I doing something incorrectly? Bob from Australia

Bob, Hard to say without seeing you swing I'm afraid. At the 'end of the day' it's still a game of club and ball, so if what you are doing looks reasonably conventional, and if you are delivering the club well, you are likely OK. Hope this helps. Best, Adam
