Fresh air injected into the exhaust system on modified sportbikes can cause back pressure in the headpipes and muffler due to unburnt fuel from modified fuel mapping combined with additional oxygen spontaneously combusting in a high heat environment. Our blockoff plates will stop the annoying and possibly damaging back pressure from occurring while allowing you to remove a few pounds in associated valves and hoses fromyour bike. On late model EFI bikes with 02 sensors, ESPECIALLY when using Dynojet's Power Commander V with the Autotune feature, the air injection system MUST be blocked as it will introduce additional oxygen into the system which will skew your 02 sensor's values and make it impossible to get a correct tune.

    Very helpful. I have the Driven block off plates from yall. My question: The plug we unplugged from the AIS at the location near block off plates: Do I just leave this unplugged? I am going to flash it and should be able to disable this, but wasn't sure if I need to cover it or if I missed something in the video. I understand a healtech resistor can be plugged in to prevent code, but, again, I plan to take care of that via flash. Thanks

    @@jdonthes1k497 Yes. sorry I just now saw email notification (filtered). Then when I flashed ECU, I disabled pair valve. I did this for servo exhaust valve motors, etc and just disabled them within the flash (I'm using woolich). This allowed me to completely take that motor and cables off the bike. I believe I just left that unplugged also if I remember correctly. I may have wrapped a little 3m electric tape around the plugs just to keep them somewhat clean, but I don't think it is necessary. I use the 3M because it seems to leave less sticky residue if you ever take it off later for whatever reason, and more so out of habit now for that reason.

    You only need to install these if you are installing a full exhaust system and running a fuel controller or ECU flash. These allow you to remove the air injection system which will drop a little weight, clean up the engine compartment a bit and allow a tuner to build an accurate map for your bike. - Van

  • @sportbiketrackgear

    IMO flashing the ECU is the way to go on any of the drive by wire bikes like this GSXR1000R. Most of the current 600-1000's benefit more from an ECU flash than a Power Commander. The flash is able to remove some restrictions the Power Commander can not. - Van

    Hey Brian, so I just did the driven block off plates on my 2017 gsxr 1000r and I realized that the oem bolts that you have to reuse are too long for the driven block off plates. The bolts will tighten but will not put enough pressure on the plates. If you tighten the bolts and put your hand on the plates you’ll notice that they are still loose even with the bolts tight. I had to use small washers to complete the install. Not a big deal I just thought you should know so you can check yours.

    If the plates are loose you will hear a noise when the bike is running. Did you remover the reeds and reuse the plate they are mounted to under the Driven block off? I will check again when I have the bike apart next but I did not have the same issue when I installed my plates. - Van

    Sportbike Track Gear yes I did remove the reeds and reuse the plates. If you look at the plastics pipes that come off they are a lot thicker than the driven block off plates hence why the bolts are too long. No biggie I just figured I tell you so you can check yours.

    No it does not need to be empty to remove it. The fuel pump will not allow fuel to pass by when there is no power being sent to it. - Van

    Maybe a stupid question, but for the sake of this install vid, is your fuel tank empty?

  • @sportbiketrackgear

    @sportbiketrackgear

    You can do this with a full or empty tank. End of the day the tank will be a little heavier when full of fuel but it should be manageable. - Van

    @@sportbiketrackgear Thanks for the reply, Van! I was just concerned about if it had more than just a touch of fuel, that it would leak out after you unplug the fuel line. (I didn't know if the tanks are 'pressurized' or have a one way valve on them that requires pressure to pull fuel) Thanks! Just watched your yosh exhaust install on the same bike, that I'm getting ready to install as well! Great vids!

    This modification is entirely unnecessary and has virtually no impact on the bike's performance. Honestly, it's primarily for achieving greater accuracy with a/f ratios during Dyno tuning. If you're just doing a flash, you don’t need these. Even on the Dyno, a good tuner will clamp the hose at the airbox while they tune it. Newer GSXRs idle VERY lopey if you delete the PAIR. Leaving the PAIR usually causes small crackling or even fire spitting during heavy decel after tuning and doesn't affect power. This is what people want these days anyway.

    If you are going to get the bike tuned or flash the ecu yourself you should also install the block off plates. While some may think the backfire on decel is cool it is 100% not good for the bike. - Van
