Drinking Vessels with Shawn Felts

Shawn will demonstrate his signature flasks, bourbon tumblers, tea bowls, "pint glasses" and bottles. This demonstration workshop will also be focused on how to better your wheel throwing, and make your pieces better in every way. We will focus on the why we make things the way we do to better support the function of the piece.
"Functional ceramics we use in our daily lives are the most important ceramic pieces in my opinion" Shawn Felts

First time seeing you do a class. Thanks so much. You are very good at communicating the little things to make throwing better. Much appreciated.

I am actually watching this as I paint. I was trying to watch painting videos while I painted, thinking it would be relaxing, but no. I kept thinking of what I was doing wrong So conversely, if you are working with pottery, perhaps you could watch something about painting! Thank you and have a blessed day 🌺

I saw this guy on another video where he demonstrated an alcohol-copper reduction with a raku piece. I think he mentioned the Alternative Firing Techniques book too. Great watch.

Love his explanations, real life. Love the pace. I agree, the background noise is distracting.

I staple my shammy to a wine cork. Then it floats in the water bucket and is easy to find where ever it goes. Also doesn't end up in the recycled clay!

I strain my recycled clay slop thru a custom hardware cloth strainer bucket lid so it doesn't matter!

Attach the piece of plastic to a fishing bobber. It even has a little hook for attachment.

Are they teaching another class at the same time across the room? It is very distracting to have people talking so loud in the background. I really like and appreciate all these seminars. I learn something from every single one. If I attended this in person and was given a comment form about the instruction my only semi negative comment would be that the folks in the background are noisy and distracting.

❓ 🤓❓ Now it's time for 💥 questions from a noob💥 Our question this week comes to us from Anita in Texas, and she asks "Hi. If your clay is really groggy, can you use fine grit sandpaper before you glaze it? Thank you." To which I chuckle and respond, Anita, you should stick to painting and watching pottery videos
