All your videos are excellent but as a U of T alum, archaeologist, and beekeeper, this one speaks to me especially. Thank-you!

The story about Li Bai drowning while embracing the reflection of the Moon on water is repeated by most historians, scholars of literature and translators, but the reality appears to have been less poetic. One translator I have read wrote that there survives a copy of a letter by Li Bai's cousin, telling of his death, and according to it Li Bai would have died at this cousin's home, after having been ill and bedridden for weeks.

Love the content! Could you talk more about non-grape alcohol in China? There's so much to dig into there, from the legendary excesses of the last Shang emperor and his lake of alcohol, to the transition from malt to fungal amylase.

Thanks Alec. You're absolutely right. There's a wonderful ancient history of cereal fermentation throughout China and all of Asia. Check out this hour-long virtual presentation I did for the Chicago Brewseum about Drinking Culture in Ancient China. kzread.info/dash/bejne/l6ukxaWypLS7g9Y.html We'll see if I can distill some of this to put an episode in the Uncorked hopper about Chinese millet and rice beer of the Shang, Zhou, and beyond.
