Drinker, you, Az and MauLer provide a significant service. You guys watch god-awful horseshit and then warn us about it, thus sparing us total disappointment again and again. Speaking from a post-season 1 of the Rings of Power, I can safely say the tearing apart of that show has been like nothing we've ever seen, and it almost cost us some of our favorite youtubers. Thank god these brilliant bastards are so resilient!

The main issue with most of the writers for Netflix shows is that they are not writers, they are activists pretending to be writers.

No one in books liked Yen. She was absolute bitch, angry that she was forced by jinn magic wish done by Gerald to be tight with him. She was not even naturally in love with him.

Henry Cavil should be next Bond,. Also Yen seems like a self insert power fantasy for the show runner, she's said before that Yenifer is her favourite character I'm guessing that's why she's been ham fisted into every major event. AZ raised a good point about the multi culturalism of the world, in the books and games it often mentions the pogroms' and divide between the races

He is a gamer geek that won the genetic lottery and looks like a male action lead actor as well. I think he takes these parts to Gatekeep in the noble way. He wants to put some english on the productions to keep the fans from completely tapping out.

Disney's Star Wars goes by the motto of let the past die kill it if you have to.

43:20 this was my biggest issue with Episode 1, the writers had no idea how to write that fight. Unfortunately Temeura Morrison is too old and out of shape to play this character who should only be late 30s/early 40s at this point. Disney doesn't have the balls to do mature Star Wars and the criminal underworld needs a certain degree of mature content in order to convey properly.

KOTOR 1 had an entire storyline around Tuskan Raiders and made it work quite well. It's a matter of skill, of which Disney writers have none.

I was done with The Witcher after one season and can tell you, other than Cavill, the game is infinitely better at storytelling. The fact that the Karen who runs the show wanted to add a joke after Roach dies (RIP) doesnt surprise me at all. She made Geralt a side character on his own show, in favor of grrl power.

Conveniently enough Witcher was released close by so i wanted to watch. Is it worth watching? I don't mind if it's not the best show in the world. If i get even substantially interested I might look into the books and games.

The combat and controls are a bit clunky and awkward, but the world, characters, writing and voice acting is fucking stellar. And the DLC's are also massive expansions, Hearts of Stone which is like a 3rd the size of Blood and Wine will take you at least 10 hours.

Have you noticed the reverse bechdel aspect? Two men talking about the female “protagonist” Geralt and Istred talking about Yen as the main example. it comes across as a direct role swap and knowing suggestion of how bechdel criticized representation in the past.

Boba Fett in the comics and novels predisney was a stonecold amoral killer who followed the letter not spirit of the law. Just one more reason to stick with the pre Disney stuff.

God I love this show. If Saint Peter gives me a choice when I ascend to heaven (because I've been a good boy); Drinker's crew or Lagavulin for eternity it would be a very, very hard choice. I never expected that kind of conundrum when I was twelve.

I could write a book, around what's wrong with Witchers 2nd season..... Just from hearing what others said about it, and the few scenes I saw. Not that Sapkowski didn't put some progressive messaging in, but he KNEW how and when to use them. He was a surgeon with a scalpel. Most of tv show writers nowadays are apes with dull axes.

I stopped watching season 1 when the diversity hire elf was inserted in place of Geralt, on his first reunion with Ciri (that story is what made their second reunion so special)... the writers are a bunch shitheads... they are a bunch of puppets for the woke mafia and nothing more.

The writers for Witcher, and most of Hollywood, are perfect examples of the "participation trophy" generation !!!

I haven't ready Andrej Sapkowski's books. Razorfist made a pretty good argument that he ripped off Michael Moorcock's Elric of Melnibone. But I'm going to go ahead and assume that the books are much better than the show. Wheel of Time got it even worse than Witcher IMO.

The thing about Boba Fett is that he wasn't just some dude in a cool costume. He was intelligent, skilled bounty hunter, as well as a shrewd businessman. He tracked Millennium falcon when noone else could, and then got paid for the same job twice, first by Empire, then by Jabba. In fact, he had the balls to negotiate with Vader to get paid in case Han died from the carbonite freezing. The show fundamentally does not understand his character. Boba wasn't a deep character at all, and they still failed to understand who he was.

I'm calling it now, the whole point of Grandpa Fett being with the Tusakens is so that when the Hutts army roll up to that empty castle with Grandpa, female assassin, and two piggies, Grandpa can put out a call for the Tuskens to come be his army and defeat the hutt army.

@Melvin Deeply I think he's more around 40 or a little over, but yes. I agree. The common excuse would probably be one of two: 1) Accelerated aging for clones (fallacious, but a common point I would guess) 2) the Sarlaac pit and his time in the open desert and Tuskens accelerated his aging a la Obi-Wan It's weird that both Boba and Obi-Wan are going to be dealing with this same problem in reverse.

Problem is not just Boba Fett, it seems to be the Mandalorians as well. They're basically tanks when wearing their armour, be it Beskar or Durasteel. Remove it and they're barely average. Neither the Mandos nor Boba appear to be able to fight that well and they don't seem to be too bright. Point either the Mandos or Stormtroopers at a target, give them weapons and tell them to go. Mandos succeed because of their durability and Stormtrooper due to numbers. No wonder the Mandos were almost wiped out and Boba is basically a Stormtrooper. Thanks Disney and the introduction of WOKE.

I'm glad you brought this up. I forgot about that episode but I did think when listening to this part about when Q lost his powers and he realises how useless he is without them and expects people to treat him the same way. Both episodes done really well.

When I’m listening to these older streams again I can’t help but think how much better things could have been. For example, it’s clear they wanted a Boba that was approachable and charismatic. I can only imagine how legendary this show would be if boba fett was literally Lalo Salamanca. Fit and trim in the armor. Absolutely magnetic personality. But also fiercely intelligent and no nonsense when it comes to business. Literally the perfect character for this role.

the lightsaber work at 1:51 is orders of magnitude better than any lightsaber fights in DisneyWars

Every problem you described with The Witcher is ramped up 100% worse in Wheel of Time. As a brokenhearted Robert Jordan fan, I'm looking forward to you guys eviscerating that travesty.

I went through a lot of reviews from book fans like yourself and they were furious! it put me off giving it a watch as I generally trust reviews from fans of the source material. They were all -5/10 from book fans, not many at all giving it better than average.

I thought the Witcher TV show was good in many respects, obviously flawed but I enjoyed it... so much room for improvement and I hope it gets better as it goes. If it gets the 7 seasons we might look back on it as a shaky start but got better (here's hoping). Lord of the Rings I am dreading, as I am a fan of the books first, and the movies... I think they are going to butcher it!

Talking about good acting out of all the good scenes in Vikings.. my favourite one by far is just Ragnar’s monologue as he buries Athelstan

I hear AZ when he was talking about needing to cleanse his pallet with a good show. I myself have done this with bleach recently.

The Sarlacc pit secretly uses mind altering drugs to leave people in a state of delusional confusion which is how it can consume them over such a long period without them just climbing back out. This whole season will be shown to just be a fever dream while he's still trapped. We can hope at least.

There's an X-Files episode with pretty much that exact story line lol so that works for me.

It's probable the assassins were looking to capture Fett. That would explain the shock sticks: capture him, drag him back to the Hutts for torture and/or being made an example. And Bib Fortuna was likely running Jabba's holdings for the twin hutts, who were busy partying on Hutta. But when Fett killed him, then dealt with their assassins, they decided to handle matters personally. Things don't always need to be spelled out in the narrative, you know: the old "Show, don't tell" axiom. Or maybe I'm putting more thought into it than the writers. :)

One thing about Cowboy Bebop. There are featurettes bundled with the CB movie - the cast talking about their characters and stuff. The character designer says that Ed was originally going to be a boy but they switched her for balance - just so it's clear that it always happened, but obviously this was done for a reason and her being a girl actually has meaning - hanging out with Faye who opens up to her and stuff. But when I saw the Japanese actress voicing her, I immediately thought that someone like this should be Ed in live action - she has the same hair, young face and apparently played Ed rather naturally (it helped that she was around 15 at the time). Ed's not crazy, just young, playful and slightly autistic. And both voice actors obviously saw that. Ed wouldn't have to be a rubbery animation if her character was done right. But what the live action did instead was create an annoying, loud kid monster that you'd probably see having a tantrum in a supermarket... Basically what they did with all characters.

Interesting that for English of the Witcher they translated Jaskier to Dandelion instead of correct "buttercup" but it means that the translator correctly assumed that in English this doesn't sound like a name for a dandy minstrel. But they should've also found a better name for Roach because this refers to a type of small fish and in Polish this sounds kind of cutesy and girly and in English like cockroach and I don't think this particular fish is very well-known so it should've been something different.

Disney have set the bar so low for Star Wars that people think that ep2 of boba is “AMAZING” lol. The madalorian season finale was “the best episode of Disney Star Wars tv yet”, the 2nd episode of boba fett comes out and it’s “the best episode of Disney Star Wars tv yet”. Then one the shows are finished they never talk about or watch them again. They just constantly lie to themselves to try and convince themselves that these shows are good.

the way they told the story in witcher season 1 worked better for geralt than the linear storyline they had in season 2. i hope they take more chances in future seasons because i think it better portrays the strength of geralts character

I have yet to watch The Book of Boba Fett but I do have a question, why the "The Book Of..." in the title? Is he writing in his diary at the end of each episode?

There is the Book of Eli. I think it's just a way of saying The Story of... Also, the occasional movie/T.V show has "Chapter 1, 2" etc. in it. I think it's just a way of playing into the conception that books/readers are smarter so people will think our show is smarter. As a pretty big reader I have never understood this tbh, it's just another form of media.

I always loved Assaj Ventress. I think the Clone Wars has more and better characters, with interesting development, than the whole sequel trilogy combined. I don't know if I would want an entire series about her, but a mini series or movie would be great.

I mean, the thing is that the Boba Fett in the OT was english actor Jeremy Bulloch -- it's only the special editions which redubbed his lines with the new zealand guy's voice but it was still Bulloch in the suit in those movies -- and he had a specific vibe and body language which the new actor just doesn't. Even if new guy was 30 years young he'd still not be the same guy. Now I think he was fine as Jango Fett in the prequels, but Jango Fett was a different character completely. What we see in Book Of just isn't Boba Fett.

Cavill doesn't need a new agent. Henry is such a fan of The Witcher games and books that he approached the makers of the show to play Geralt. It's not on his agent. I agree that Jaskir calling out the audience in a meta way was super cringy but being a foppish, annoying bard is his character in the games and books. The way the actor plays him it's as if he stepped off the set of Xena which, for me, works (for the most part).

Actually it (apparently) goes a bit deeper, in that he has the same agent as The Rock and basically the Rock gets priority over any roles that he wants. He does need a new agent. I only heard this from a previous open bar or FNT so not confirmed.

In the Star Wars books (before they were nullified by Disney), Boba and Han become bros.

these are better with fewer people. Way better. I would love for you guys to have Bill Whittle on one time. He is famous in the political realm but he knows Hollywood and SciFi very well and would be one of your best guests ever.

Don't mind me. I'm the only person on earth it would seem, who thinks the Witcher and Boba Fett were okay. They weren't dazzling I grant you. The Witcher can't be just about Henry or you wouldn't be able to build up conflict or plot. Honestly, they did a bit more with Boba Fett than what I was expecting. That he didn't just wander into another city after the sarlacc pit, but suffered a little, helps bring some sympathy to the character, who had arguably never really been fleshed out before. There's some extreme violence in Boba Fett, which made me think twice about letting my ten year old watch it.....so....it isn't standard Disney fare.

I thought the same thing for a lot of season 1 which was distracting as all I could think was "man, I'd love to move there" but then I wasn't quick enough turning off the subtitles 1 episode and I realised.
