Cavill's exit was absolutely necessary for the future of the DCU. He needed to go so Jennifer Lawrence could play Superman; the character based on her life story.

Although I am a fan of Warhammer 40k and Cavill, I'm a little concerned he's going into that genre. As much a I love it, it is one of the more absurd fictional universes, with giant holes in the story and logic of how the world works. Honestly I can't quite put my finger on why as an adult i still find it so fascinating. I'm not sure it can be brought into the mainstream and be taken seriously by those who already aren't on board with it, and Cavill might be hurting his career. I do think whoever is making the Lore for GW these days are taking major steps to adjusting the world to a more mature one that make sense. I also understand that the lore had to keep in mind that this is all based on a tabletop game where any faction needs to be justified in fighting any other faction at any time, which produces a lot pressure to make in world lore be very illogical at times. Still, if there is a list of people who could pull it off through passion, talent, and popular good will, Henry Cavill would have to be on it.

How can he be that perfect for a role, that well liked, that popular with anyone and everyone, yet be fired for the gig everyone wants to see him in as Hollywood is struggling to revive a franchise? And yet he still speaks kindly and professionally about everyone he's worked for who screwed him over. How can he do all that? Because he actually is Superman.

Every adult has a master to their life and it is up to them as to how they treat them no matter how they were treated by them. Hollywood just happens to be in an awful mental and money state at this time and will do anything to get out of it to put themselves back in more $$$ state.

The 'I want some hope in our movies' sums up SO much of what the problem is. Deconstructions have their place, and the ones that work have writers that DON'T hate the thing they're deconstructing. Cavil was one of the very few positives in the DC universe lately. A classy dude with some solid acting chops. I also hate to see him move on from the Witcher role, but the writers are destroying that franchise, so I don't blame him. He cares about the source material and it shows in his portrayal of Geralt. The books are really good, and I think that respecting Sapkowski's stories on screen would have yielded a series that appealed to both the people that loved that games and the portion of the public that doesn't play video games. There were some real opportunity in the Witcher series, particularly with Cavil in the role of Geralt, and it was completely wasted by Netflix.

Cavill should not be a Bond as then that fan world would disrespect too. It's either Cavill or drop Superman as I believe Hollywood will as they want a younger Superman now but already played out in tv and movies. The way he is able to promote a movie like Superman or the entire DCEU by being an actually corteous, charismatic and absolutely handsome sun of a gun is something that DC shouldnt overlook, especially after the disaster with Ezra Miller and Amber Heard. If I were the DC brass I would have kept Henry, soft rebooted the universe all the way back to Man of Steel and started from there. I know MoS had it's issues and I know a lot of people didn't like it but I think it gives a pretty good base for a proper Superman portrayal, they just didn't use it. You can set it a couple years after the events of MoS and have Superman realize that he was just a passive hero before, only helping people when they were nearby and that isn't enough anymore. He's now fully dedicated himself to helping people. Stopping criminals, saving crashing airplanes, talking depressed teenage girls off of rooftops, being there for people when and where they need him. Proper hero shit. Maybe have him realize that killing Zod was wrong and vow never to take a life again. Definitely dye the suit in brighter colours. Make him be hopeful and cheerful, a beacon of light in these dark times. A goddamned inspiration like he's supposed to be. But for the love of god don't have him mope around for the entire freaking movie like BvS. SUPERMAN SMILES! Then and ONLY then, do you build the universe. You could do separate Batman, Wonder Woman etc films after MoS 2, or if you want to cash in on a group film do a worlds finest film (Batman/Superman. my personal preference) or a Trinity film (Batman/Superman/Wonder Woman). You could recast those roles if you needed to, I still like Ben and Gal but I get recasting them if necessary. No Justice League yet. Too soon. Start introducing other characters in solo films. I don't care if people say "waah, you're just copying Marvel". So what? It works, do it. Don't genderswap or raceswap characters, that'll just alienate your core audience and won't attract enough new people to offset that. Instead, if you want to push 'the message' use existing characters. DC has hundreds of characters to choose from, from every background you can imagine. If you want a specific category, there's a character for that. And they probably have a pretty dedicated fanbase too.

I like Mauler's idea of a Flash paradox disaster scenario. That's similar to how Final Fantasy 14 re-tooled for 'A Realm Reborn' where the terrible state that the original game launched in was completely rebuilt and replaced from the ground up -- but the reset was presented as a 'meteor' striking the world so that there was narrative continuity across versions. It worked very well and gave an interesting sense of history to the world moving forward. It was the ultimate "yes, and".

If Gunn made the Guardians of the Galaxy battle in space epic, imagine what his vision can do with Supes battling godly being in the same environment instead of making Kal-El grounded in Earth again saving cats, accident from car crashes and stuff like that. James Gunn totally blew his chance and the thing is if his movies all flop and underperform, which most likely will, he will just bail and quit his position and take the easy way out.
