Inspired by the highlight compilations of RedLetterMedia's commentary tracks ( • RedLetterMedia - Hallo... ), I made an edit of Drinker's & Mauler's commentary of the legendary Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan ( • Star Trek II: The Wrat... ).

This is great, I can not believe Mauler hasn't seen all of classic trek... makes me wonder how he is such a good reviewer without that background. Also, I got 10 minutes in and had to go watch WOK.
The best Trek movie ever. The best Captain. The best Vulcan. The best Doctor. The best Engineer. The best Vilian.
4 is the most expensive "Save the Whales" ad ever
The Motion Picture was actually a big box office success, breaking several different records, and sold the most tickets of any Star Trek movie until the 2009 reboot. It was just an extremely troubled production with a cost that balooned out of control and Paramount had some unrealistically high expectations about its performance. That's what led them to cut the budget for the sequel back so much.

As a huge Star Trek fan, Motion Picture is by far the best feature length they ever did. With Voyage Home being a distant second. These are imo the only two movie that truly captured the series; the rest feels like Hollywood blockbusters.
I love that this movie I loved as a kid holds up so well this many years later.
The entire Star Trek franchise past and future is only there as a worldbuilding exercise to support the pinnacle which is Wrath of Khan.
20:54 It was cut from the theatrical release, but that was supposed to be Scotty's nephew

Sure wish Scotty took the kid to sick bay, instead of the bridge.
2:45 The length of The Enterprise’s beauty shots are only "boring" and would be better spent on "character stuff" to those who are kinda forgetting that The Enterprise IS another character, and we missed her the past 10 years as well.
28:36 As many times I've seen this scene, I still get chillbumps.
I appreciate this edit. Are you going to make ones for their other Star Trek commentaries as well?

@@RainbowSoap Nice.
I remember seeing this in the theater like it was yesterday. I turned to my friend and said “did he see the Enterprise warp away at the last second? There should be a shot of him turning to the Genesis console saying “No-No-No-!” Boom! “Holy sh--“
^.-.^ Huzzah! I can rewatch the Best-of hits of Longman and Drinkly watching Wrath of Khan. Well done Soapness!
Loved the next film, too though I sometimes refer to it as "Mr. Spock Has Risen from the Grave". As a '60's "Dark Shadows" fan, I half expected the person who opened Spock's photon casket to be strangled by it's occupant.
Also, you talked over the best line, in the turbo lift, "humor, it is a difficult concept" Kirk: "We learn by doing" that line really has so much meaning in the greater world of Trek at least for me.
In the original series 70% percent of Uhura's lines were "Hailing frequencies open."
You shortboi'd the longman, dammit.
Haven’t seen this movie since long time. Need to see again now. 👏😁

We went to see it in the theater for the 40th anniversary. Still held up. Totally worth it.
The ending bit with the coffin was shot because the original ending without it was a MAJOR bummer for the test audiences who liked everything else in the film.
This is a great edit
Great commentary from both of you. I had rewatched 2, 3 and 4 recently. I cried at the end of 2, and almost cried again when you showed it here. Great jobs, guys. Thanks.
You did a fantastic job with this, mate! ^^ High quality editing as always! 💙💙💙
17:20 I feel bad for Uhura because they wait until she was 70 to have a "naked" scene with her . In the 60's , she was one of my favs ... :P
At the time Shatner and Montalban were committed to ongoing TV series their schedules conflicted and neither could be on the det for this picture at the same time - hencce no punchout.
Classic!
The drinker brought me here!
Even numbered Star Trek Movies don't suck. At least the first few
Good stuff my guy
Wrath of Khan commentary...well im gonna lose a half hour, because there is NO way i'm going to skip it
11:45 Oh yeah! HEHEHEHEHHEEE

Okay, KZread... I upvoted this video, why does it still say 0? Edit: As soon as I posted the comment, it updated...?

KZread seems kind of buggy today.
I was ready to give JJ Abrams a chance but when he decided to steal Star Trek II and did such a HORENDOUS job of it that I am so totally NOT a fan of ANYTHING he does now. The Nerve of JJ to steal from this movie and make it so lame!
