Why not practice more having individuals learn where to come back to in order to come back to that 45 except during continuous movement, I.e. while moving thru port. Just random curiosity. It would seem to me that someone grading a competition would know that a team was taking shortcuts to look good instead of training.

Taking "shortcuts" is going to result in a lot of excess body control and bearing issues. Efficient technique and truly taking shortcuts are two different ideas entirely and an efficient drill team is going to likely be a consistent one. This has proven true consistently; teams who take shortcuts will have physical tells (shoulders slouching, vacations in approach and technique, etc.) that will be noticed. Good question!
