Finally found youre video about that problem.. Same problem
Thanks! Just picked up a 20 year old drill press which turns out to have a noticeable runout problem. Looking forward to following your method.
It's so interesting and useful for me. Thank you!
Bought a 20" Taiwanese drill press third hand. As with other used drill presses, dirt, loose fasteners, and rotted rubber were behind 95% of the problems. It would be nice to know how to clean, lube and adjust chucks, too, wouldn't it?
very good video
I would have liked to see if there would be any total run-out with the press extended out fully.
Where did you get that stand (dial indicator) for the gauge?
What is the name of the solvent you used to remove the corrison from the arbor of the drill press?
I’ve been trying to fix mine for a while. Mine is not new. And it’s second hand. But it’s what I’ve got for now. It used to have a little wobble. Now it has a ton. I cannot figure out where it’s coming from.
That is NOT the correct way to set that adjusting screw, It has a flat spot and you need to remove the quill to adjust it..

Can you describe the correct way to remove the quill and make the adjustment or provide a link?
Ahhh, am I missing something here? Started out with 9 thou runout, then cleaned it all up and ended up with 9 thou runout which you were happy with. Thus the runout procedure accomplished nothing?

Yes, you're missing something.

Watch it again. He said run-out improved from 9.0 to 0.5 one-thousandths/inch.

I think what you really want to show is .009, nine thousandths and .005, five thousandths. What you’re showing is 9.0= 9 inches and .5 is a half an inch. Edit: After rewatching the video, he said he had it to one half a thousandths witch is .0005.
