Hilarious! Well worth watching. And a great solution, too. Nice that you showed it right off the bat. Then came the humor, and the making of. Really classic video!

+Rog Beever Most of my models never make it to the show. They are far too in-depth and there is no way to make a video of them. I do, however, show them on my Facebook page for the show. I am currently building a replica of my Jeep. You can find my channel at facebook.com/kennyearrings1/ Thanks for the kind words on the show.

I have been fussing with these consarn double nut rigs on my presses for so long I have a special set of cuss words and callouses all custom made. But I saw yur exorbitant offer and thought, “i bet a nickel I can buy it cheeper, by gum.” And I did. I found it online at a company called Cop & Fleece Em but when it came it was just a block of wood with no holes, a T nut and a knob off of some guys drawer pull with no threaded piece attached. The instructions were just a piece of paper with the address to your video here! I can tell you I was hoppin mad for a time but my wife pointed out that I did beat your price by one payment after all so what was I bitchin about. She’s pretty smart but on the same day that the scam job came in the mail she had been to the beauty parlor so of course I told her she was extre beutiful but my gosh you shoulda seen her. From the side her profile pretty well matched a claw hammer I use for makin parts fit together. Still cracks me up to think of it.

Hey Kenney, great idea. I was wondering with 7+ years on the depth stops have you found any weaknesses of this simple design? My first thought is with repeated clamping at infinitely different depths the stop would get kinda chewed up a bit engaging/disengaging from the threaded rod and eventually result in possible failure of stopping at the desired elevation and potentially go deeper and maybe ruin a project. Can you give us a 7+ year review sometime? Thanks.

I will add it to an update show George but I will give you an update right now. Although I have a new drill press that has an amazing stop system, up until I got the new press, the depth stop still worked flawlessly. The threaded rod for the original depth stop never chewed up the wood at all and it still works flawlessly. I've made a few modifications to the original design so that it will work on my smaller drill press but that was just sizing it down. As for the weaknesses of the design....I haven't found any. I still love it and for the ease and simplicity of the build, it is well worth making one. I hope this helps George. Thanks for tuning in to the show.

Hardnox They really are awesome and work extremely well. Just remember to release the tension on it when not using it, otherwise it gains a bit of a memory and if difficult to move into position until it relaxes a bit. Ask me how I know...........

Good point. Thanks for the warning. That would be easily forgotten. I plan on using oak. Maybe tanking the piece in oil for a few days will give it permanent flexibility since I know I'll forget to release the tension.

Unfortunately my larger, floor drill press has not even the threaded shaft or thru-hole or depth stop mech whatsoever like my little $70 General. Weird, it's really well made for the price otherwise. I'm either going to have to use table height (sucks since I'm trying to lightly mill-plane little pieces of wood in about three consecutive -z graduations).

I have to say Jeff, that I have never heard of a drill press that did not have some form of depth stop device attached to it. It is very odd indeed. However, I'm sure that there could be something fabricated that would be better than having to adjust your table for the depth stop, relying on the full travel of the drill chuck to get your depth. I would think that instead of adjust your table, an easier and fairly inexpensive solution would be something like this www.amazon.ca/Drill-Collars-Wrench-Consistent-Drilling/dp/B00RE5ZE5U/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1521716319&sr=8-3&keywords=depth+stop They are available at most woodworking stores or online and work rather well. This would probably serve you well until your could fabricate something as a permanent stop. I hope this helps. Thanks for tuning in to the show.

You´re welcome. I´ve got used to it, but the batteries drain too fast *G* Built your depth stop and it works like a charm. Can not think of anyone who could like or get used to the two-hex-nuts-solution that most "cheap" drill presses come with. It was so annoying that I wonder why I didn´t check out for another solution much earlier! Cheers again, subscribing now!

The nuts on my bench top drill press aren't even hex nuts. They're just knurled cylinders so I guess the manufacturer intended you to finger tighten them together? And then of course, soon as you drill into anything harder than say balsa wood, the vibrations cause the nuts to untighten almost immediately and you lose your depth gauge. This almost always occurs without you realizing it as well so the next hole drilled is a good 1/8 inch more shallow than intended until you finally realize what happened and go back and try it again until it loosens up after the next two or so holes. Really don't know why they even bother with such a poorly designed feature on drill presses. Cost is not a legit excuse to me given that there are probably a hundred solutions out there that are either cheaper or just as expensive as those goddamn knurled nuts. Damn you, drill press manufacturers! Damn you!!

Up until the recent purchase of my Rikon drill press, I had yet to see knurled nuts or other depth stops on a drill press work worth a darn. This little jig solves that problem for good and it really gives a great depth stop for use with pretty much any drill press. Thank for tuning in to the show and for chiming in with your experience and opinions. I appreciate it.
