Drifting road trip in Japan 2007 *read description*

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Back in 2007, I came to Japan to shoot magazine articles, and ended up going on a road trip from Osaka all the way up to Fukushima to visit the Ebisu Circuit Autumn Drift Matsuri. Running on empty and with no sleep and no navigation apart from a map book, watch as I go over the video to see why the Silvia ends up stuck in the snow on a mountainside.
Big thanks to @DriftLifeAus and @JDMism for the footage and camerawork.

Homer is buying a used automatic car from a dealership run by an Eastern European caricature called 'crazy Vaclav', and when he can't figure out how to put the car in drive Vaclav instructs him to "put it in H". Man things used to feel so much more adventurous back then! Using paper maps, not knowing the weather forecast, and having to ask local people where to stay/eat are some of the things that younger generations will never know. Not that is was better then than it is today, it was just a lot more adventurous going on a trip. Really enjoy these videos! Edit: autocorrect

Thank you for uploading the old footage, seriously - I had moved to Osaka just before this was shot (going from the date on the fuel slip) and I don't know if it's the quality of the footage, or lack of smartphones, or the models of cars on the road or what, but it's easy to identify around this time of the decade in Japan. Not to get all too sentimental but it was such an awesome time in Japan in the late 2000s. J-sports cars were still affordable, parts were relatively dirt cheap - I remember seeing new R33 headlights (unfoggy) for Y15,000 at an Up Garage. Nothing like that now. :/

Broken guy from ester Europe going Japan for 3 months to see how people live there. Going to Osaka bay area hoping to see and meet some people there on those roads. Didn't work out for me., only seen lot of s13 and civics packed in car parks.. With wheels and tools behind them.. One stranded out, with sticker on winshild "sexy osaka style" gajin website to meet girl, so she can show me around Osaka.. Yes and paper maps to navigate around city. Sleeping in computer rent thing till first train bac to shinosaka.. What a experience it was. ❤
