He caught it really well. Notice how his head doesn't move until after the ball has left his bat. Head still, hips come through, bat follows. Helped that it was a hanging curve on 0-1. Well done Tennessee on a 9-8 win in the opening round. Gilbert the hero at the 11th hour.
@devn266
2 жыл бұрын
he caught it well because he was sitting on it. You got to expect, in a D1 game, with bases loaded, down 0-1 in the count.. the pitcher would be a fool to throw a fastball unless they are confident they'll blow it by you.. that or he read the scouting report on the pitcher and decided to sit on that specific pitch knowing he would get at least one of them. or the report said "ahead in count, this pitcher loves to go the the breaking ball" so he was just sitting on it.
@Steve-jf4gq3 жыл бұрын

yeah you were killing up 5-8, and with a hit, & 2 walks with a pitcher who's struggling, the idea floats into your head and you pray for this not to happen. I cant imagine how the pitcher felt. And I know all his teammates wish they were the ones to hit it.. even though they were just glad to get the W.

He caught it really well. Notice how his head doesn't move until after the ball has left his bat. Head still, hips come through, bat follows. Helped that it was a hanging curve on 0-1. Well done Tennessee on a 9-8 win in the opening round. Gilbert the hero at the 11th hour.
@devn266
2 жыл бұрын
he caught it well because he was sitting on it.
Good night that pitch hung up there forever and a day. RIGHT over the middle of the plate too. For any youngsters reading this - hitting your spots is ALWAYS better than any amount of break you can put on a ball!
I used to imagine this as a kid. Only thing that could’ve made it better would be 2 outs and a full count
