I'm wearing this watch right now. It's great except that it's EXTREMELY difficult to read in all but the best conditions. I ended up buying an A700 and swapping out the modules. Now it's wonderful.

Seems like a popular Mod

I am more happy with this watch than all the other high prized watches that I bought in the past.

I recently bought the A1000D with a positive display and mother of pearl design for around 80 usd here in India. It's really dressy and I just loved it.

I have this watch, it is a gift from a friend and i absolutely love it.

I love the A1000s! I have both the black and white ones. I swapped the negative display for a positive one though as it was really hard to see. I'm going to get the new rainbow one next.

@@LastWatch same module as the a700. If you're willing to live with the orange backlight, I think the cheaper swap is just fine.

SKMEI has done a clomage of this watch. It doesn't have quick release straps. But SKMEI offers positive LCD on the black dial versions.

I was almost tempted by the full on bling of the Gold version when it was on sale but I think I would play safe and go for the GMW-B5000D-1ER

I don't think it's accurate to call this a "dressy g". I like the "dressy square" you mention much more. The rectangular Casio style isn't unique to the G-shock square. Most digital watches in the 1980s had this style at the time, including many from Citizen, Seiko, and more. They all seem to take some inspiration from the first digital watch, the Hamilton Pulsar P1. If you look at Casio catalogs from the early 1980s, you can see that the original G-Shock, the DW-5000, is clearly the "rugged" version of around a hundred watches that had that style. The standard Casio squares aren't *dressed-down* version of the G-Shock square. The G-Shock square is the *bulked-up* version of the standard Casio. G-Shocks specifically encase the watch module in a protective rubber isolating layer. If it doesn't have that, it's misleading to refer to a watch as a "G" in any way. The "Dressy G-Shock Square" would have to go to the GMW-B5000 in steel. The A-1000 is the modern day "Marlin" if anything. (W-150, W-250, W-350, W-450, W-550, W-650, W-750, among others.) Great shots of a great watch, some top notch photography and editing on this.

Thanks for the info, as I said in my review this is a bit of artistic licence calling it a Dressy G, you may want to check out my 5610 review which confirms the G-Shock attributes

1000A it is not premiun. They still sell nostalgy, just like with those cheaper resin coated digital vintage watches. The steel scratches easily, the bracelet has no solid links, no sapphire, no screwed back., weak wr Yes, I have one. It s polished and look nice but, as I said, not premium as we deserve. At that price we can buy Edifice and Citizen.

The Casio A1000 isn't a premium (superior) product either in the Casio price range or other brands range. Also there's no way you're going to get sapphire crystal in a low end, £165 watch, unless you get very lucky. I didn't get sapphire in my Hugo Boss (£199) , GShock (£89), GC (£120), Armani (£230) or Seiko (£340), so why should Casio provide it, when their watches are known for low-cost, durability and high functionality - Casio is not a luxury watch brand. There's only one low end watch that I can currently call to mind that actually has sapphire crystal, and that's a Citizen Corso Eco drive - but that is very rare to get that level of glass in a sub £500 range watch, as even most £500 watches don't come with Sapphire crystal.

I have more than half a dozen automatic watches costing less than a £100 all with Sapphire crystals, like the Casio which has a digital module they were all built in China. The Casio's mineral rather than acrylic is a slight upgrade but they could have gone further.

I would advise taking a look at the Casio S107D and S108D. Prices vary but they were under $100 when i last checked. The S107D was on sale on Amazon at one point for around $50.

It is because margin of CASIO is much lower than the "big brand" CASIO is X3 , "BIG BRAND" is X8 (even X10).

maybe don't buy overpriced poorly made watches from Hugo Boss, Armani and GC..

A dress watch....really!!! This, like the Timex re-issue is a cash grab from the Casio fanboys, They currently want £88.00 for the white version on a FOLDED link bracelet, I'm all for updating an old classic but to not even give you a decent bracelet on some models is a rip off. I have recently "dressed up" two 5610 Tough solar with metal kits and have two very good watches with solid link bracelets with a great pin system for the same price per watch

I have the mesh version and I am more happy with it than my more expensive watches like Seiko misaligned crap. This Casio watch has not a single fault. It’s looks and feels more expensive than it is and it last forever.
