Dresden Story

Фильм және анимация

This film goes to Dresden, Ontario, to sample local attitudes towards racial discrimination against black people that brought this town into the news. After a round-up of the opinions of individual citizens, white and black, commentator Gordon Burwash joins two discussion panels, presenting opposite points of view. The rights and wrongs of the quarrel are left for the audience to decide.

That issues discussed on the panel is still the same and it's 2021.Smh.Those thinly veiled threats. I truly hope the black people weren't targeted after speaking out. Thank you for posting this.

Maybe it was a product of it's time, but having groups separated by race doesn't encourage the kinds of discussions that would be constructive, but it's illuminating to see that this is what happened. I'm not at all surprised to see that there was some inferences to communist infiltration, but that's the easy scapegoat: assume that it was true, why is it that members of your community are so disaffected by your behaviour that they accept outside help? Was it true? No, I don't recall so. The same issues that black Canadians had at that point were echoed by asian Canadians, as well as indigenous Canadians. It's interesting but also amazing that the white Canadians in this (even to a point Mr Burwash) have the attitude that the issue is with the black members of the community... I guess the idea of walking a mile in their shoes hadn't really sunk in even as a thought exercise. Things aren't rosy now, but at least there is some level of awareness starting to sink in, and it's horrific to me that it had to happen because of bloodshed. At least it's happening.
