Dremel Workstation / Rotary Tool Mini Drill Press Test & Review

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Today I'm doing a test and review the 220-01 Dremel Workstation. This neat attachment lets you turn your rotary tool into a mini drill press, tool holder and flex shaft holder all in one.
It works with rotary tools, Dremel 3000, Dremel 4000, and many other non-Dremel brand rotary tools.
DREMEL Workstation Features:
* Articulating drill press - drills perpendicular and angled holes in 15-degree increments, up to 90 degrees horizontal
* Tool holder - holds tool at 90 degrees horizontal for tasks such as polishing metal objects, sanding different shapes or metal pieces
* Flex shaft tool stand - allows telescopic adjustment between 16 and 29 In. in height
* Crow's nest provides on-board storage for drill bits, wrenches, and other Dremel accessories

I love it. I do some small carving with my Dremel 4000. I was wondering about this little stand. I already have a much bigger drill press on my workshop. But I love the convenience of portability and compact size of my Dremel. It is a big turn on the fact this model is so small and easily dissassembled. I saw it for less than $50 at Home Depot. Thanks for sharing.

I have tried exactly this and can say for a fact that the Dremel Workstation is not the right tool for this task. The moment the Dremel touches the aluminum, the bit wanders off center like crazy. In general, Dremels have high speed, but low torque. For drilling 1/8” thick aluminum bars, you need a drill press if you want at all to have holes that are round and not seriously egged out.

nice little workstation. How accurate would you rate the angle drilling? This could be very handy. This might take a bit of practice. When using the sanding drum moving the body up and down a little bit will use more of the sanding disk instead of just at a single level.

So here I am 10-15 years later without a drill press, heh. I am not sure if this is the same model drill press from over a decade ago. The one that I saw was either at Lowes or HomeDepot.

Yup. I used mine to drill holes in a PCB and it was impossible to line up correctly. You think you got the donut pad lined up, then once you touch the lever the whole mechanism will tilt one degree counterclockwise, and then when it touches the media, it'll torque one degree clockwise! I think there's an Instructibles forum that tells you how to tighten up the slack, but it will wear down the linear rods and you'll have to over-lubricate it or else it will creak like crazy. And when you tighten it up, it will be crooked. Definitely not recommended to purchase...

This workstation has a big flaw in that it doesn't hold the Dremel stable when you tighten the plastic nut. It's pretty much impossible to get the tool square in the mount and if you do get it square it's going to be knocked off just as soon as you apply some pressure. Quite disappointed that Dremel didn't design this part of the stand better as it would otherwise be a great accessory.
