Dreamcatcher - Maison. Definitely K Rock if that is a thing.

Ойын-сауық

I love K Pop and I love Classic Rock. I think I found their child. So I jumped the gun with the second of a trilogy (Sorry). This is the first, then Vision. I will do the 3rd soon.

Thank you for Dreamcatcher’s reaction. Another song I would recommend to you is the 2024 concert version of Curse of the Spider. This version is not live. But I think you'll like it.

Welcome back! Maison is a call to action on climate change and a plea for someone, anyone to do something about it. "Save my home in the Jungle, Polar, Ocean, Dessert, protect my Maison (Home in French), please someone fight for us". They talk about how humanity is so desensitized to what's happening that we ignore it, and they directly call out the corporations and institutions that are responsible (the board room with the giraffes and goat headed man leading them). The MV depicts them as something like goddesses coming down to help humanity fight back against what's happening. Maison is them trying to get people to fight back, they take a more passive role and only attack the ones responsible (The Goat headed man). In Vision they go on the offense and lead humanity against the "powerful instigator" who represents all of the people throughout history who rise to power during times of turmoil and cause war and strife. Looking forward to your Bonvoyage reaction. As for K-Rock, there are actual K-rock bands. In fact, there's one called Rolling Quarts who did a cover of one of Dreamcatcher's songs called Good Night. If you wanted to check out Dreamcatcher's version and then do Rolling Quarts version that would be cool. The groups know each other and the drummer for Rolling Quarts taught Handong how to play drums. Handong is the girl with the longer dark red hair in Maison.

"Maison" is part 1 of the Apocalypse trilogy. Dreamcatcher are touching on a very important subject here. Maison is French for "house" or rather "home", and they are singing about everyone's home, which is our planet. Previously they talked about online hate, now they are tackling an issue that impacts the whole planet and therefore everyone. Climate change is going to affect all of us, and it is already affecting many people. Island Nations will disappear under the ocean ("Save my home in the ocean"). Ice melts in the arctic and displaces people ("Save my home in the polar"). Forests get decimated by corporate greed and habitats get destroyed ("Save my home in the jungle") and disappearing glaciers and snow packs result in even less water for deserts ("Save my home in the desert"). People have a natural tendency to ignore issues that seem to be in the future - but climate change is here, right now. We can't wait anymore, and it is good that Dreamcatcher use their platform to promote change: "Break your habit now!" Musically I really enjoy the song. Like in BEcause, the rock/metal vibe is dialed back a bit, but it is still there and highly distorted. Although the more I listen to it, the more Rock I hear. I especially like how the pre-chorus and chorus seems to appear out of nowhere, the chord progression in the bridge, and the epic end part. The bass line is crazy as well. LEEZ and Ollounder (their producers) have done it again, and the members are just brilliant. Respect!

Dreamcatcher aren't a band, since they don't play instruments. They are a singing and dance group, but when they perform with a live band is when the magic really happens. Rock music isn't popular in South Korea so there isn't really anything I could point to as distinctly 'Krock'. There is one excellent rock band known as Day 6, so I guess what they do could be called Krock. If it is then I guess you could say Krock isn't as edgy or metal as Jrock, and has a more melody based sound that's derived from Kpop. Korean songwriters don't pigeonhole musical genres the way Western composers do. They regard Western musical genres more as a buffet and they take bits and pieces that interest them and combine them into something that isn't quite rock, pop, EDM, R&B, punk, or hiphop. That's what makes Kpop interesting to me. American music has become stale and repetitive really since the 1990s and Kpop has breathed new life into it. This is a very good guide to the group kzread.info/dash/bejne/aIiur7Fros6yYM4.html There are brief spoilers for their title tracks so if that's a problem you should hold off until you watch more, or maybe that will just drag you deeper into the rabbit hole. As group leader Jiu said, 'Dreamcatcher is like a Black Hole, once you get in you can't get out'.
