It's even harder to believe that he accidentally cheated since a mod that specifically changes drop rates should have been the first thing that he would check for, since he makes his video with these mods. But instead his first reaction wasn't to check for something wrong on his end, it was to lash out at the moderators. On top of that, the mods even gave him an out, and actually did ask him if he accidentally cheated and to let them check his mods folder... but then he goes ahead and "deletes it out of frustration". NGL this whole thing really just makes Dream look like a really shady liar who knows he can easily manipulate his own fans.

Many mods exist used for personal groups, I've moded games like DST for personal use. I've asked for help with mods for personal use. Just because you have something doesn't mean you'll share it because you feel it is only for personal use. If I were to commission a mod to help improve my run times when practicing I would do the same. "I want it to ensure optimal and consistent runs so I can test after the pearls more frequently and perfect that part so I don't mess up." It would be very easy to mess up with and accidentally leave on if you've been practicing a lot recently and just forgot... that being said Dream probably did lie. Lying means taking a plausible scenario and this causes people to doubt the validity of the scenario forcing those like me to step in because I have to defend the fact it is plausible. So while Dream is likely a lying jerk... I also have to defend his statements as they can be true. Dream cheated.

I sometimes use it while I live stream because the main priority while I'm speed running is entertainment, KZread is my priority so I'd prefer to make an entertaining speed run rather than a legit one. What I did wrong was actually putting my times up on the speedruning leaderboard while knowing my run wasn't 100% legit. He claimed he constantly changes the mods in the folder depending on version and what he's doing and that by the time the mods asked for the folder he had already changed them, and he claimed he deleted his speedrunning mods folder after the mods had already asked for everything. His argument of changing the mods for different usages does make sense, it however completely falls apart knowing he had a mod that adjusted the rates he used in other videos and said nothing of or even considered the possibility it may have still unknowingly been in use during the runs. So the only reasonable conclusions is he either intentionally used it or realised he accidently left it on but tried to save face by keeping it a secret hoping the accusations would blow over, either way he definitely lied and I'm leaning heavily towards the former of intentional use.

He admitted he never even considered the possibility that there was something wrong with his odds. If there is something wrong with his odds... then the Earth shouldn't exist. That is the problem, yes he cheated and was a monster... but the odds don't matter at all by any stretch. Have you heard of Gambler's Fallacy? A 50% chance doesn't mean you'll win in 2 attempts, if you assume that you'll lose more often then you think. While the odds of losing 3 times at 50% is low that 2nd loss is still 50% and that 3rd is still 50%, you have incredible odds of losing each time. Each one is an individual 50% chance without any influence on other odds. Likewise games like Minecraft use an algorithm for randomness... meaning it is possible to get higher then normal odds as the algorithm needs to only have the option to get a high number of positives in a short time... which if it uses time (As they often do) this means the right date could give you higher odds then normal. To put it bluntly, there is no way to safely speedrun Minecraft anymore without risk of getting lucky and being banned by the community. If you get 2 incredible runs in a row... you better start recording some runs where you get bad luck and stop streaming to avoid this mess. Dream cheated, he did bad stuff... BUT that doesn't excuse how Minecraft's community has created "Getting lucky" as a offense as when you rely on numbers alone the Earth shouldn't exist nor should we.

@@kingweezel That's not why he did it. He still didn't admit to cheating, claiming it was "accidental" and not his fault. That's not what someone who feels remorse does. He's just trying to bring some more drama and attention towards himself to make more easy money. More drama = more views and channel interaction (dislikes and likes are treated the same by the algorithm responsible for counting how much to pay the creator). His stans still stay on his side because he "didn't lie but made a mistake" so he's innocent to them and it's a win-win situation for him. Never, ever think people like him come out because truth is eating away at them. That's not how it works. He's a narcissistic egomaniac. It's *never* his fault, and he will always blame others for his own actions. Just like a certain recent president of United States...

No. Those log files are written by either the mods themselves or the modding API (eg: Forge or Fabric) used neither of which have to write anything when something is loaded. And even if the modding API itself does log the loaded mods there is nothing to stop a mod from hijacking the logging routines to hide its presence. So no hiding a mod from log files doesn't require a user to actively edit them, the mods can hide themselves if they want and some cheating ones almost certainly are.

I find it highly unlikely that Dream cluelessly and accidentally cheated in a Minecraft speedrun for the fact that not only was he trying to defend himself multiple times to say he didn’t cheat but also hired an astrophysicist from Harvard University to try and disprove the results from the Speedrun Mods in which after further digging into the results by the astrophysicist found critical and basic errors in the document from people that had a good understanding of mathematics for then for Dream to later say that he “accidentally left them on” during the speedrun is laughable most likely so he doesn’t have to face the consequences of people calling him a deliberate cheater. It’s also funny that one of the Pastebin staff removed the Pastebin document where Dream admitted he cheated probably because even they had enough of his bs.

"Yes, because there are billions of places where billions of events can happen every day. It's odd to highlight this (repeatedly). All that has been taken into account already to arrive at the 1 in x trillion number." Is such a great statement. Any time something like this happens there are always people defending that it CAN happen because it is possible. What they are completely skipping over is the probability of it ACTUALLY happening specifically for something so popular by someone so popular. In criminal cases DNA evidence can have the same probability assigned to it for evidence but it is considered proof by everyone, you wouldn't refute the odds because it's so absurd to believe that someone is either that lucky/unlucky over the HUGE probability that they just cheated instead.

I'm amazed Dream found a way to make his situation even worse than it already is. I cannot believe he actually wrote that and thought it was going to fool anybody. He's either absolutely clueless about his position, or his ego grew so gigantic that he is physically unable to admit what he did and make a genuine apology. Either way, absolutely pathetic and abhorrent. People like him should be permanently banned from every single speedrunning community and made into a pariah.

My version of Dream’s confession. “I didn’t understand the math and cheated. Because I didn’t understand the math I believed in spite of my guilt I was being assumed guilty without reasonable evidence. I fought fire with fire and math with math. Still, I did not understand the math and was frustrated at the ineffectiveness of using it to persuade people of my reasonably possible innocence. The most unfortunate part is that I still don’t understand the math and deep down I feel like the moderators and the community cheated in proving my guilt. I know that’s unreasonable, at least ironic, but I don’t understand the math, that’s the point.”
