Lazy Dreads hey i dont know if you thought about this already or maybe have already done it...but have you thought about making a discord server..because i think a lot of people have questions but never ask in the comments, and to have somebody like you and other experienced people at the reach of their phones or computers would be amazing. and i think that the community will be overall more connected in this way with people helping each other,and if you were to make this server it would be popularized in a short time.

Had my first set of dreadlocks for two years and maintained them nearly every other day to make them look as neat as possible. My new dreads are still babies and I have a lot of loose hairs. But I don't worry about them anymore and let them do their thing. That is the lesson I've learned from having dreads for two and a half years. Your videos helped me a lot to get there. You and your channel are just absolutly amazing.🐙

My dreads are probably 2 or around 3 months old now and loose hairs do still make me wannna cry aha but not only has lazy dreads proper helped me chill out, so has your comment so thank yaaa aha

Locks will be 3 years old in Saturday and I've gotten to the point where the only time loose hair bothers me is when i drive with the Windows down and they blow in my face.

I'm curious if you still have them since they would be 8 years old now ??? Mine are still pretty new. They shrank 6-7 inches already but I think the shrinkage is finally stopped at least slowed down

Had my locks for like four years. I also struggle with Alopecia. I have regrowth that's finally long enough for new dreads, so I have this weird new baby dreads mixed with the fully mature dreadlocks that never experienced loss. It's kinda cool tho, because I have loops and lumps and bumps plus the compact developed locks. Loose hair can be an issue but I choose to embrace the wild fun mess that my hair is, just like the wild fun mess that I am as a human being.

Your dreadlocks at this stage are absolutely beautiful. Thank you for all your videos they're always very informative 👌🏼 x

I've had dreads for 12 years. Loose hair is a constant struggle. I get maintenance 2-3 times a year to tie it into my old dreads.

SO glad you made this video. I've had my locs for 1 1/2 years, and I had them first maintained in January. Currently I have a lot of loose hairs and was slightly concerned they would just stay like that forever unless I got them locked artificially. I'm so happy I came across this video. I just started dreads with the twist and rip method a couple weeks ago with my friend's help, and the baby hairs frizzing all over the top of my head have been insane! We were afraid we started them wrong. ;-; I'm so relieved.

I'm so excited, have been watching you for a year and you've really helped me enjoy and let mine go. ..they are going to be one on July 25th..I started mine back comb...on half of them then I got tired and did a really lazy job and just let them go (thanks in part to your great informative videos ) Anyway, my almost seven year old sweet daughter started her dreads last week and she's doing complete free form...the reason to start them was to end the painful brushing required to keep her hair unknotted. Her hair did in three days what mine took three months to do. I LOVE HER HAIR. She does too. It's so fun to watch it form. Loops galore and it's so fun to feel. All I did was put rubber bands to seperate the hair. And I have had to rip some of them apart that were trying to congo..minimal discomfort there for her. Anyway thank you thank you thank you. I just past the one-year mark on my locks and even though they're coming along quite nicely (thanks to all of your vids) Loose Hair has always been a tangle to deal with (haha get it? a "tangle" 🤣) Honestly I found that the less I try to control them, you're more control they become if that makes any sense LOL but yeah, keep up the great work and keep putting out dope videos and hooking us up with mad note awesome knowledge! You are the first white personal that I have found to do and talk about dreads I have gray fine hair that being said I could not find anyone where I live to do my dreads so I went got a perm and had them section my hair and I back comb or ratted it I found you answered all my questions Thank you p.s. I am 65 years young always wanted dreads but was discouraged in getting them I decided to just do it as a bucket list thang lol My hair was not long but I thought it would be easier to Surat short lol Thanks for all ur help

Christian ... always a pleasure m'dear! I have all KINDS of loose hair and my locs are nearly 3 years old. Since January I've "helped birth" two "babies" out of larger sections of loose hair. One at the crown and one at the nape of my neck. Braiding and twisting and ripping and a LOOSE rubber band at the base of the baby for about 6 weeks to make sure. I still have a bunch of loose hair, but I have patience locs so ... I need patience ... when I get IMpatient I help birth a new loc. Easy, peasy, lemon squeesy!

I've got my 1 year anniversary with my dreads, and they are still maturing...changing...anf they have a mind of their own. After about 8 months I stopped fussing over them. Stopped worrying that every little thing was going to need them up. I've tried some things....given up on others. One question I do have. Have you ever used black soap on your dreads? If so...did you find it better or worse then Dr. Bronners, or other soap geared for dreads? I tried it a while back, but I'm not sure if I liked it or not. Also, do you steer away from ALL conditioners, or do you use anything to help keep the brittle dry hairs away?

Question: I'm 10 months into my dreads and I've notice that some of them have straight hair sections in the middle of the dread (dread solid mostly to root and tip but center in straight smooth hair) is this normal? Btw absolutely love your channel, unbelievable help during my dread process, any info I've need I've come to your channel for it

I really hope my dreads look like yours when they're a few years old. I love mine so much right now, being seven months old. I went freeform with my dreads, with a bit of twist & rip when some of the hair on the top of my head which just totally wasn't doing anything. I'm totally aware that I can't just force my dreads to be exactly the same as anyone else's, but I definitely wouldn't be upset if they turned out like yours. They are my babies. I'm almost dreading (pun intended) when they're totally mature, because I really like these cute little lumps and bumps. i used to get down on them, but now I just see them as unique and fun. I like feeling them and seeing them and how different they are.

Hi Lazy! Dread cuffs are your friends!!!!! Yes! I love my cuffs. I roll the roots and twist them up real hard when it's wet and then I slap a cuff on it. It helps....a lot. But the cuffs are disposable. They're good for one use. I swap out the cuffs to re roll the dread. So, you'll use a lot of them so you'll have to get the 300 pieces of cuffs from Amazon or where ever. You can use the cuffs on the strand of dread itself, too. I roll the knots and cuff those puppies, too. Hope this helps someone. Yay! Dreads! I love my dreads!

I know your locks are fully your own but some videos im thinking... Theyre just so damn perfect lol. Amazing crown you have. Im 8 months into my journey and im struggling with my random lose hairs dangling at the ends lol. The worst thing is ive got afro Indian Irish hair and while a loose natural never had straight hairs but suddenly i have loose straight hairs at the ends of my locks haha. What about chunks midway through individual dreads, that are very loose? Parts of my 3 month old locks look more like braids... Do you think they'll lock up or should I backcomb in there?

I have had my locks in for nearly a month. I have extensions. Is it ok, to maintain/crochet the hairs back in close to the roots, as often as I want? Or should you try not to do it often?

Had my dreads for a year and a half now have noticed they seem to be very dry, would/ do you use oils on your hair to make it softer and less brittle. If you do what would you recommend??

My locs hit the 12 week mark a few days ago, my sides are shaved and my fringe is loose, I struggle most with loose hair right at the middle/back of my head and I cant see them so crochet them in but the back of my head isn't my problem so I don't really mind 😅 this video made me feel a bit better about ignoring it

Thank you for all your great videos! My dreads are about to hit 3 years old in Sept (back combing & freeform method) and most of my loose hair locks up on it's own now, sometimes in the wrong dreads though so you have to watch for that. I also have a hard time getting the hair at the bottom of my head (where my neck and scalp meet) to lock up on their own. I assume it's because my hair there is super fine and gets the sweatiest when I go to the gym. No big deal though, I try to get maintenance once a year to just get those hairs in to the dreads their supposed to be in. Other than that, they figured out most of what they do, by themselves. In my experience I would only really recommend maintenance if the same patches of loose hair aren't locking at all over the span of more than 6+ months/a year. Just to make sure your dreads aren't getting thin and weak.

Hello Lazy Dreads how it going? I had a question for you regarding loose hair and new growth. So Ive had my dreads for two years and have pretty much been all the way neglectful to my dreads letting them do their natural thing. However about a year ago someone literally tried rip my dread locks out of my head during a little brawl I was in. (Stupid me for fighting I know, I thought dreads meant your a peaceful guy lol) Anyways, as the man tried to tear out my lock with all his might I heard A BUNCH of hairs ripping and being pulled from my scalp. At first the damage seemed minimum but fast forward about a year and the places were the hair was torn out at the root seem very very thin. So what do I decide to do? I decide Im going to try and reinforce the root by making my loose hair around that area knot into the root. So I put a rubber band at the very root of the dread to try and get those loose hairs into the lock ASAP. Well, the results were not as desired. I believe I put the band on much to tight and now towards the root instead of the new growth developing naturally its all compressed into itself and is notably much thinner than the rest of the dread and of course hardly any of the loose hairs even stuck to the lock as Im almost certain I pulled more hair loose getting the rubber band off. So the end result was still a seemingly week thin root followed by about two inches of compressed hair were that like i said is much thinner than the rest of the dread. Did I make an irreversible dread mistake? It seems like the part were the rubber band was at is so compressed it doesn't even have the ability to actually dread but more so just stay compressed. Do you think it will remain like that or do you think that part will eventually fatten up and dread just like the rest of the lock? I came to the conclusion that trying to make the loose hair grow into the lock using a rubberband was futile and that the root will always be weak because the damage it took during the brawl, but is this now thin part always going to remain like that or will it mature and be fine? I've got loose hair that will not naturally dread. I've tried backcombing thr loose hair but it just unravels. I did years ago make the mistake of cutting my loose hair but I don't want to repeat that mistake. Should I use matt clay hair wax and twist the loose hair or should I backcomb first and then twist with clay? I don't know what to do with it man

Question, I have heard the term over maintenance a few times from you and some others. How do you know if you have over maintenanced your dreads? I have googled this but found ABSOLUTELY NOTHING☹️ My dreads are about 10 months old. I feel like maybe in the beginning of this all... I may have over maintenanced... I have some spots where the dread has balled up super tight, but above or below is not the same. Possibly slowed down the maturing process. It's almost like a super hard spot. You have to crochet and hook them, roll them and I twist mine, too. Look on KZread for how to do these things.

i’m hoping to start locking my hair when i move out in just over a years time and i have short straight hair so i’m expecting a lot of loose hairs but tbh i’m not that bothered, i prefer messier dreads rather than ones that are super neat and overly maintained

Yessss mine too! My dreads are ~3 months and some are lumpy but others look kinda flat and I'm not too sure why! I'm also worried about a lot in the back that are kinda getting sucked together at the root despite me constantly trying to pull them apart.. lol

I'm going to give it a good 6 months before I try to tidy anything up

My dreads are a little more than two years old. I have plenty loose hairs. An inch of loose hair from my scalp to my locks. I wash when ever needed because scalp health is great. I sweat and salt so I wash it out. I use just water if it’s only been a day or two. I use ren pure shampoo and conditioner and body wash. I have tea tree soap cut 1:1 with water. I condition my locks when dry after showers. I put coconut oil directly on each lock and roll and twist and massage and what not each lock so my locks move like unlocked hair and not like dry stiff twigs. I don’t seem to have a weird or bad smell in the locks. No sticky film coating. And yea, a bunch of loose hair still. I started my locks with twist and pull and back comb then crocheted. As my hair matured I can now see the differences between lock up locks and bounded tight together hair lol eeeeee. Oh well. When I cut my hair hopefully the locks I keep are all the properly locked kind. I see a cut coming soon because my locks are at my waist and... I’m beginning to see long hair problems lol. Moderation and balance is my continuous flow. Thank you for all your shared experience and care! I plan to love my locks and journey for quite some time. Maybe watch them turn grey.

Wrap those loose hairs around a nearby loc. Loose hair can be loced and loved, it may take time, but it's not messy it's just that your hair is growing.

Ok here's a question for ya! Are ya single? Lol jk sorry. Ur gorgeous and love your accent! But seriously, I'm a newbie, my babies are a week old right now. My crown is the frizziest. Ive just been separating and gathering the loose hairs closest to the locks and pulling (gently) smooth (hard to explain lol) instead of palm rolling. Should this be ok to help "tame" the frizz and promote locking? Or should i roll them a little to keep the loose strands around the locks? I know leaving them alone to do their thing is best but I literally have a fuzzball on top of my head and my locks are looking great.

Question. Will my dreads get thicker as they grow or will some stay thin?

TheRealAidenE 2.0 it depends on the root bed size how much hair you're using to start each lock freeform will always kind of thicken up as they tend to gravitate toward the neighbor lock as it gathers more hair around it or forming a Congo but more maintained dreads will typically stay to a certain size once matured. Over maintained can making them thinner which can lead to breakage for the loss of a lock

i have tried doing dreads a few times the past like 2 years, but either my head gets really itchy and i end up scratching them into oblivion, this time is hopefully the ticket, ive had them for three weeks, im blonde with straight silky hair, and i always find the ends coming out in past endeavors, this time around i left like 2 inches of hair not dreaded at the scalp, the last few times i tried dreading at the scalp it really irritated my skin, all red and itchy and i ended up going crazy and scrubbing out the baby dreads in the shower, any ideas on how to minimize irritation and any tips for my hair type and how to keep the ends intact??? i love your channel, thanks for the tips in advance!

a big problem ive had is the base of the dread coming undone, and the tips coming undone, so basically i just have a short length of dread in the middle of the section, with like 5 inches of straight hair at the base and maybe 2 at the tip, the tip is easy to deal with, just twist and rip further, but at the base, how do i re-dread that? is backcombing a good idea? or will that 5 inches at the base re-dread itself down the line? (im aware it can take months or years for the dreads to completely lock up, and im in very early stages, i just want to know if theres a problem or if im on the right track!)

Some hair types are really, REALLY hard to dread. I know this from experience! Try using some rubber bands (don't tie them too tight or you'll break your dreads!) to keep your roots from coming undone the first two weeks or so. You can even band the tips. I'm not an expert (not even close! I just know what has helped me with mine) but if you're getting really itchy, try to rub your head instead of scratch. As for the roots, there's a technique called "root rubbing." You grab an inch or so of your loose roots and rub it all different ways, clockwise and counterclockwise, back and forth, etc. Don't rub too hard or you'll irritate your scalp. As your hair grows and you gain some experience with having dreadlocks, you'll find your way of doing it. Your roots will naturally lock up as your hair knots and loops up. This guy has a lot of videos about maintaining your baby locks. It takes around 2 years for your dreads to "mature." Don't stress out about how often you try to "fix" your hair. It'll just make you frustrated and annoyed with them. All you really have to worry about is the shaft of your dreadlocks, not the tips or the roots at first. Before you start backcombing or twisting, stop conditioning your hair for a week or two. Allow the coating to wash away. It'll make it easier for the knots to form. Remember to keep your hair clean since dirty, greasy hair will NOT lock up. Sorry, I know I wrote a short novel here, but I thought I'd pass along some of the wisdom I've gathered the last couple of years. Best of luck to you! 👍 ♥

Manda TH thanks for the detailed response, when it comes to hair detail is AMAZING, i had never heard of the root rubbing technique, and ill definitely do that further down the line, i never condition my hair, so im good there, and i try to wash my hair every other day or so, sometimes more often, most of the stuff you said i assumed, but having confirmation is really comforting, again, thanks for the response, i appreciate any tips i can get#

I know what you mean about the itchiness!! I finally realized that I should do my last rinse with alkaline water. It pH balances scalp/hair You can buy a gallon in the market for a couple buks. After rinsing hair, pout the water all over your scalp. I used to carry a tiny spritzer bottle in case I got a little itch during the day. A gallon lasted me maby 4/5 rinses. It's really good for you to drink too;)

I don't do anything to my roots. Twisting / Re-twisting is not effective on Caucasian hair so it's not something I would be able to do anyway. If you have Afro textured hair then you would be able to twist/re-twist if that was the look you were going for :)

I actually like the loose hairs. I keep the front loose

Great video,mine will be 2 years in July and I definitely have loose hair and my decision is to do nothing,I wash and separate and that's it,it seems like a big waste of time when I do try to maintain them because like u said the hair comes back lol..yours look amazing btw😉😀🍻

I have so much loose hair coming from the roots....everytime I try to lock it back in with the crochet hook and it never stays in for more than a couple days. I've had my dreads for 2 1/2 years and it drives me nuts

I keep my dreads washed on a regular basis same day once every 2 weeks and are you always going to have some dryness and say some very small almost like scalby spot's not actually scabs,.. weird way to put it and hygiene is very good and use all good product's dollylocks and do you or anyone think its better to wash your dreads in hot or cold water... I've heard different opinions on that? Would appreciate some feedback and keep the videos coming.

Cold water is supposed to be better for the skin and hair, however it's no necessarily going to be as effective at cleaning or removing the shampoo again afterwards. I would also find it difficult to rinse for long enough with cold water alone.

Lazy Dreads Thanks bro,you motivate me everyday on my locks, and is witch hazel good to use when doing a deep clean, I use baking soda and fresh cut up lemon juice and never tried the apple cider vinegar yet with that mixture... I know everyone's dreads are different of course,but how often do you shampoo... Once a month or once every 2 weeks,.. look forward for your response my friend and keep the videos coming! You explain thing's better than anyone else does and your answers are brutally honest and always thumbs up no matter what!;;::

Fyi:warm water opens up the cuticles on your hair. Cold water closes them. You should never use really hot water
