DRC Railcar in the North East - DRC43 to Albury: Australian Trains

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

On Saturday 16 November 2002, the Association of Railway Enthusiasts ran a tour from Seymour to Albury using 600hp Tulloch Diesel Railcar DRC43, operated at the time by the Seymour Railway Heritage Centre.
This video features footage from the photo stops during the trip at Avenel, Longwood, Riggs Creek, Glenrowan, Bowser, Albury, Wodonga and Wangaratta. Also included are lineside and parallel running shots of NR6 and DL44 on an up steel train plus the view out the front departing the old Wodonga station.
Since 2002, DRC43 has seen very little use and is currently stored at the SRHC depot. The broad gauge line north of Seymour was converted to standard gauge in 2009 and Wodonga has been bypassed on a new alignment to the west of the town.

Yeah, loved the bit where they were stopped at Riggs Creek, where the steelie passed it, and then they caught and passed it and were waiting for it at Seymour, just classic, and those things didn't have that great a speed, so it makes me wonder what was the speed restriction for freights allowed at that time, on the parallel standard guage track.

I think DERMPAV have proven that there is a market for railmotor tours and they can be viable. DRC43 is still at Seymour, just needs somebody to return it to service!

Forgive my ignorance but where is the engine on this Railcar ? In the roof structure ? I've never had the pleasure to ride in one to know. Thanks for sharing.

We need one of the remaining Tulloch DRC's returned to mainline operations. It seems neither Steamrail or SRHC realise that having one of these for tours would be a good thing.

They were terribly unreliable, then they had the insides rationalised, not sure if they were any better then. In Sydney I saw ten of them joined up as carriages that were loco hauled. I remember a DRC ran the Ararat to Hamilton service which became a bus due to the unreliability. I was told it would go to Ballarat to be fixed, then fail in Ararat yard on it’s return.
