Yeahh no. You simply have to just scheme for Shaq and you’re assuming that he’s not gonna miss. First off, on defense he’s a huge liability as he can’t sit in the paint or we’re getting wide open looks, and if he comes out, Warriors are faster/more athletic finishers plus he can’t keep up on the perimeter. Who’s guarding Curry? KD? And if you say Kobe well someone is gonna have a decent night and if Kobe is having a good defensive game we have a Klay that can drop 60 on 3 dribbles

  • @rlh12345

Lol, The Kings beat the Lakers if not for the refs. If Vlad Divac and Chris Weber (0 combined defensive awards) could handle Shaq well enough defensively then I'm sure Draymond plus a rotation of Javale Mcgee and ZaZa would do plenty fine (Shaq would average 35). That version of Kobe wasn't as good as PEAK KD and Curry. Who's pulling up from 2 feet behind the arc off the dribble on that team? I get that "containing" Shaq means he gets 30-35 points on good efficiency, but he's a complete liability defensively against a team like GSW. Klay contains 22 year old Kobe (25-30ppg). Kobe has to play a full load offensively and defensively. They lost 1 game to Prime Bron, Kyrie, and Love while the lakers without the refs lose in 6 to Weber, Bibby, and Divac.

@Glendocious Shaq is fouling out at least 2 of the warriors players each game. If 7ft 300 pounders couldn't slow down shaq what makes you think a player on the warriors would be able to stop him. Shaq alone generates a shot at the rim every possession now you add an athletic 2 guard that can create his own shot from 3 or drive in and collapse the defense and also get players in foul trouble. Warriors aren't stopping that. All it takes is for steph or klay to have a bad shooting night and that's game.

The biggest achilles heel of Shaq's Lakers teams have always been "quick, scoring guards". Mike Bibby & the '02 Kings Double High Post offensive sets nearly destroyed the Lakers. Bibby was receiving hand-offs from Webber/Divac and pulling up wide open 20 footers, which would be three-pointers against Curry. Allen Iverson did a number on the Lakers in 2001 as well, and then finally, Chauncey Billups ended that dynasty. Neither Derek Fisher, Gary Payton, or Kobe was able to guard Chauncey, If Shaq coudn't defend the baseline pick'n roll of the late 90's early '00s, what makes you think he can defend the high pick'n rolls today?

What people do not understand about this debate is (I still cannot figure out who would win tho) 1. It is impossible to guard KD or Shaq. If you think otherwise, you don't know basketball. 2. In 01', Fisher shot 51.5% from the 3, and 59.4 eFG% in the playoffs, even with hand-checking. I know most of 90s-00s players cannot adapt in today's game, however, Fisher definitely can.(and I know that double/triple team on Shaq has a lot to do with it). 3. Kobe wasn't in his prime in 01'. He was great + he was one of elite guards in that time, however, he still was only 22. But both Steph and Klay were in their absolute peak in 17'. I'm not saying who's winning, however, people saying oh Kobe or Fox can lock up 17' KD or oh Warriors will make Shaq look stupid with today's defensive scheme... or think Kobe in 01' would kill 17' Klay or Iggy...those things are just blasphemy.

The bench was better but I think the main reason was motivation. 2017 the warriors were super motivated especially kd in 2018 they were like eh whatever we’ll win no matter. So the 2018 team just didn’t play hard very often which is why the rockets took them to 7 games at least in my opinion

Depends what rules they’re playing in, early 2000s you can play pretty physical defense without fouling and a lot of the dribbling that is done today may be called travels. Modern rules Warriors have the advantage overall, but Shaq would dominate because the Warriors would probably use the death line up and be heavily undersized.

My Lakers are winning that thang in 6 and I'm being nice. Kobe and Shaq locked in, nobody is beating them. When they lost to the Pistons, they weren't locked it and at odds with each other. That's what it took for them to beat my Lakers that was coming off a 3peat.

  • @patjev2740

Yeah right!!! That 01 playoff run by the Lakers was one of the most dominant in history. And a lot of that was because of elite defense. The Warriors back then would've gotten swept. Now if the series is played today, I think the Warriors have the edge but the Lakers are still the better team because like Draymond said, they changed the rules to benefit them so much. And I still don't think they would be a lock to win because they can't set those pick n rolls on Shaq like they can with other teams

Warriors would win this matchup. It would be competitive but peak Warriors was insane. Fitness levels increased (better nutrition, understanding the importance of sleep, workout techniques, etc). The Warriors would have ran the Lakers ragged. It's not a fair comparison to be honest. Coaching schemes also progressed a ton with a bigger emphasis on basketball IQ. One cannot crack an NBA roster anymore purely on athleticism. The systems today are so sophisticated. And then there's the elephant in the room which is that 40% from 3, beats 50% from 2.

Draymond has to realise that they, the Warriors, can't grab or hold in today's rules either, so not only can Steph and Klay run around untouched.... imagine Kobe playing with no one allowed to touch him as well. Kobe's gonna dominate and he'd be fine chucking up 3s. Shaq's going for 50 on 20/25 shooting and 10/20 FTs after fouling out Draymond and whatever other big guy they throw at him. Shaq dominated other bigs that could bump and shove him on D, Shaq v undersized guys that aren't allowed to get physical..... BBQ CHICKEN!!!!! The only negative for Shaq would be having to switch more often than he'd be used to, he would be a bit of liability on D.... but not any more than the guys that are guarding him would be. Shaq will score more than he concedes. Too many people have blown smoke up Draymond's arse and it's made him extremely arrogant.
