Draymond Green - Defensive Dynamo

Спорт

There's an extremely small chance you don't understand how good the Golden State Warriors are (especially in terms of efficiency on both sides of the ball). The Warriors will finish in the Top 7 or 8 all-time in point differential. Alcindor's Bucks, Jordan's Bulls & West & Chamberlain's Lakers are the only teams better in that category. That's ELITE.
Helping catapult the Warriors to this point is the guy Steve Kerr refers to as the heartbeat of the Warriors. Many believed that when Bogut went down, the Warriors would stumble defensively, but they didn't, and that's in large part thanks to Draymond Green. He can literally guard any position. I don't mean it like how they described LeBron the year he finished second in Defensive Player of the Year voting (in that he can guard every position well for stretches), I mean he has played and defended every position proficiently this entire season. I firmly believe he should win DPOY.
I would also like to say that I've watched a lot more Golden State games than I've had access clips to, so you should watch the games to get a sense of his impact on the court. The plays I have here are meant to highlight some of the things he does, and his versatility. It's not a video of locking guys down and ripping the ball away every time. It's one where I show him blowing up a pick and roll and then recovering to contest the roll man. It's one where you get to see him push guys way bigger than him (he's really like 6'5'') off the block or deny the entry pass. It's one where he'll do just enough to wreak havoc on an opponent's set. The point is that if you're a skeptic, there's not going be that ONE play that will blow you away, but taken as a whole, it can help change your mind.

Not only does this guy hustle non-stop, but he plays smart help D and is hardly ever caught out of position.

Green might only be 6' 7" tall, but he has an impressive 7' 1.25" wingspan (measured at the draft combine) and he puts those long arms to good use. This is the main reason he blocks so many shots, gets so many steals, and is able to guard taller, longer players.

small and fast enough to defend 2 & 3, tenacious and strong enough to bang with 4 & 5 - he's the perfect body type in small-ball era NBA

smart, tenacious, mean, quick to guard the perimeter while strong enough to hold the post. keeps moving, covers all parts of the court but always steady on his feet. he may not shine on the stat sheets, but anyone a real basketball fan shall appreciate this guy's defense.

damm him and Curry seem like such a great duo. It's either he gets the steal and Curry leaks out. Or He bothers the ball handler and Curry gets the steal. Curry defensive awareness underrated. That first gsw champion squad was such a legendary team, amazing depth with guys like Barbosa etc..

I think Green's best defensive skill is to force his opponent take the tough shots, blocks is relatively minor part of his defensive talent

mannn there are some great DPOY candidates... Kawhi is one of them, he can guard 3 positions or so and lock them down... then you have like Green's versatility in this video and I even like Duncan's ability to guard the rim too but hes prob too old to win it now... I wouldn't mind DPOY Co winners between Kawhi and Green

  • @FavreianVengeance

***** Green is nowhere near as good of a defender as Kawhi. The games missed are over-stated. KL's defense was head and shoulders better. You really want to give DPOY to a much lesser candidate cos he missed a few games with injuries at the start of the season? Look at the last 20 games of the season; Spurs best defensive team with Kawhi turning up the juice.

brandon vasquez Draymond's just physical enough that he would bother LeBron, while being able to blow up the pick and rolls he loves to run. As for Steph, probably, in as much as anyone can guard Steph. Having to guard Steph in practice has probably helped improve his already solid perimeter defending. Then again, the point of the video was that he can lock a guy down reliably for stretches (except ZBo, but again, Dray is really only 6'5''), and that he doesn't do one thing on defense at an elite level, but defensively, he does EVERYTHING at an above average rate.

XNW Kawhi earned it. Green can't guard elite players or quick players. Kawhi heckled chris paul, Durant, LeBron, and westbrook that's dam good company.

+XNW Kawhi can guard 3 positions but so what when Draymond can guard ALL 5?! As for DPOY, it was neck-and-neck. Personally I think Draymond should've won it but Kawhi deserved it too so it's tough to say

John Oladokun hey man, I can tell you I'm actually close to done with the Kawhi video. I don't owe you anything and nothing happens if I don't put this video out there, but I can tell you I'm proud of what I have so far. With Kawhi, it's so hard to actually cut clips down and even leave certain things out, so I ended up deciding to make two separate videos. One's going to be devoted to his regular season defense, and another will be just for the playoffs.
