    I can identify with what you said about the lumis method. I also leared it. I feel that starting from a box is easier for me. It better sets the perspective and create a since a volume to place the head in

    That's an interesting method too. That reminds me a bit of how Kim Jung Gi would draw. It's nice to learn a few methods in order to have several tools at hand to apply to different situations.

    Thanks, Brian, spot on tutorial with the draw-over on the photos. I struggle with placement with the head tilts backwards, would you consider a similar video for such angles? I realise we must problem solve, but an update goes a long way with confidence and line placement when the thirds rule no longer seems to fit.👏

    I've always had trouble making different styles of heads for like cartoons and things using the Loomis method because the head shapes all kind of end up being the same

  • @foundationartschool

    @foundationartschool

    Жыл бұрын

    Definitely. The Loomis method is good as a general idea, but it's really a starting point. It's helpful for simplifying the head in order to apply perspective in a simple way, but it's also super important to go further and learn to draw nuances in different head shapes and proportions.

    Good eye for spotting that angle! The camera is positioned as perpendicular as possible, but unfortunately if it were perfectly perpendicular my head would block the paper. 😅 I'm glad you enjoyed the instruction none the less. I would like to know, how do you rotate the head in space with the Reilly method when you are creating you own head, wouldn’t that be the great thing about the Loomis method???

  • @foundationartschool

    @foundationartschool

    24 күн бұрын

    The Reilly method was designed as a way to work from photo reference which is why I have stopped using it. I was trained to use the Reilly method at Watts but over they years I have realized it has many limitations. I have switched to a more constructive type method that is a hybrid of all of the different methods I have studied combined with some of my own ideas. My classes use photo reference but the way I draw/teach is designed to teach students constructive methods that can be used for figure and head invention when they get to be more advanced. There are some concepts about rhythms that I learned from the Watts version of the Reilly method that I still use but generally I would say that I don't use the Reilly method anymore.
