Learn how to draw the figure - proko.com/figure

    OK, here's a quick way to level up. I agree with everything Proko said. Ultimately your eye is the important measuring tool. Recently, I did over 1000 figure drawings and I used everything that Proko mentioned. I focus primarily on negative space and angles. That gets you 90% of the way there. Also, here's a (not so) secret tip: Get a (plastic) Proportional Divider which can be used for traditional or digital drawings. As a beginner, use it to get the proportions. Once you get better, use it after the fact to correct proportions. Finally, you will not use it 99% of the time other than in portraits which demand absolutely correct proportions.

    @@CARMENRodriguez-ch7sd I made the time. And I'm no one special. And in fact, I know many of you would be far better than me. That's reality. Just do a few a day and as long as you have discipline you will reach 1000+ figure drawings. This leveled up my drawing and art skills more than any KZread video. You find what works and don't. And I'm not saying that YT videos are useless. They're not. They're absolutely valuable, but you should do 10% YT videos and 90% training. Art is more about learning your workflow and about learning what works and doesn't.

    Man, I applaud you. I had on my ipad 175+ of figure drawings in one album in Procreate. I have another album with like 120 that includes sketches, unfinish paintings and some traces using proportion lines and measurements. Unfortunately, while sitting in my car on lunch one day drawing, I accidentally deleted the one album with 175 sketches from the last 6 months thinking I was deleting one canvas instead of multiple/album. I thought I was deleting one sketch. I was confused because if you have a album it previews the first image on top of stack and the one. Hurt my soul, and I didn't have icloud back up enabled.

    @@KyleYousef. That is not what you comapre when you use angles. You check the angle of a lien from a corner to another structure. For example you want to know if that oblong is in the middle of your image, you compare the angle of the corner at right to something and the other side to somethin in that same height.

  • @kantamana1

    @@KyleYousef. True, but a square and an oblong are both made up of triangles, wich will in fact have different angles for a square and an oblong. I always look for triangles, sometimes constructing purely imaginary triangles to devide up shapes if they are too elongated (the angles are too small). This is how i actually measure distance in my mind.

    Great video! 7:32 What about downloading a bubble level app on your phone, and using that for measuring? The bubble should tell you if you're holding your phone perfectly vertically (and horizontally as well), so your phone should be perfectly vertical using an app like that, just like a string with weight on it. Has anyone tried this? It'd be interesting to read about your experiences with this method.

    Oh my god! Before watching this video I totally can relate to people that measure like that. I always felt it was the weirdest ways of measuring with a charcoal or pencil because you're using a utensil that dwindles down the more you use it. Thus making it irrelevant when you're drawing something. And also the utensil your drawing with is not a ruler. We have eyes. Put those foundations to good use😂

  • @ProkoTV

    @ProkoTV

    Жыл бұрын

    To start, yes. The head gives you the unit of measurement to compare everything else to. You can decide to measure against other things as your work on the piece, though. You may notice that the width of hips is roughly the same as something else nearby and use that. It won't have to be the head every time but it's a good place to start for the overall form, before getting into smaller details.

    @@Kokose that tutorial, yes, but rules must be applied consistently. What about a tutorial that shows, say, how to draw a person doing the dirty? Is THAT appropriate? Surely not. But it IS a tutorial. What about one that's not active, but a tutorial on how to draw someone... cupping their privates? That can't be appropriate. And, if a tutorial is appropriate, what about looking at the art the tutorial creates? Is all nude art okay? Well, seeing the options above, maybe not. Without the educational aspect, it's just straight up porn. And, even if education is your defining feature, how "educational" must it be? Is just showing the drawing process enough to excuse hentai? Does it have to have a voice over? Because there are bad people, and because rules must be applied across the board, and cannot practically be evaluated on a case-by-case basis, some videos that AREN'T bad will be caught in the cross fire. But that's the unfortunate truth of the matter.
