If you remember Cesar you finished a whole Bargue after class and I asked you to do another so I could make sure you understood and completed all the steps. Your response, "No problem". An example of a great student and now, great artist. All your success is well deserved.

And we all really appreciate you passing on what you have learned. It means so much to those of us who for what ever reason are unable to have formal training. It's such a long and lonely struggle trying to learn alone, from only books and videos, with no fellow students or wonderful teachers to talk to and help. So being able to have your videos, which always feel like you are talking directly to me, to keep me motivated and reinforce what I'm trying to learn from books is such a help. I often feel discouraged or feel I'm never going reach the level I want to, when I feel like that I often turn to you for a dose of inspiration and to remind myself that great artists like you get there through hard work and not giving up. Just wanted to say thank you and let you know that what you are doing is as important to me as your teachers were to you. Those teachers of yours should be really very proud of you. Thanks and much love from me here in my little studio room in England on my journey. Glenn

I am half way through the plates in the book, and I am amazed at what I have learned so far.
Cesar you are absolutely great artist and teacher! Thanks a lot for all your videos!
You are an excellent TEACHER.
Here are two most excellent instructional anatomical drawing books that I imported from Italy and even though only in Italian, the drawings are very precise and compliment Charles Barque (whose book I have as part of figure drawing instruction that I took in Santa Fe years ago): STRUTTURA UOMO, Manuale di anatomia artistica, Vol 1 and STRUTTURA UOMO IN MOVIEMENTO.
I feel so lucky to be able to log on to KZread and get such great advice, and inspiration! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and talent!
Cesar, thank you for all the great information in your video! I now have next steps for my passion to draw like the masters.
I have the Charles bargue books it’s great my other recommendations are lessons in classical drawing (Juliette Aristides) my favourite and also drawing the head my Maughan but the best advice is to just practise and draw often 👍

Cesar, It’s fun to look at all the comments and see that so many people respect and look up to you. I studied at the American Academy of Art in Chicago back in the mid 80’s, and although it’s not Florence, it was school that taught classically. There is no substitute for hard work and studying the masters, and that will make you a great artist. There is no short cuts. Another reference book is Drawing Lesson From The Great Masters by Robert Hale.

Watts is an atelier for illustration, not representational art like Angel Academy. If you want to be an illustrator, sure go to Watts. However, if you plan on being a representational (realist) artist go elsewhere. Look at the type of work of the students and teachers from both schools and how differently they describe the models ie subject matter. Nice advice thanks. saw you first with Proko recently looking at your sketch books. That was excellent! Personally I need to sketch and paint more, and watch KZread less. Yet like you, there are so many talented examples to watch there!. :-)

Hello Cesar !!! I bought a version translated into Portuguese, but researching, I saw that this translated version is missing much from the original book. But I really enjoyed the techniques taught by the master. Have a great day!

time is an illusion, let's call it focus and dedication? ;) (...and good surroudings, good advices, good questions, good Teachers!)
Glad you brought this up César. I understood the importance of Bargue drawing when I saw a video of Master John Angel explaining the progression used in his method. Since then I've been drawing some plates but, I don't have access to a teacher for proper technique or for pointing my mistaques, so I'm doing the best I can with myself. Recently I bought the 'Atlas of Human Anatomy for the Artist' of Stephen Peck. I'm liking it a lot. Do you know this book?
Thank you so much for the book recommendations and the explanations of what each of them will teach us. I was able to find them all in free pdf form on the net if there are any broke artists anywhere;). It's nice to have a real book of course but for the meanwhile, it's practical, also if you own a kindle. I really enjoy your videos and your art! it shows that it's your true passion.

Hi, Vera. Yes, you can get the plates free from Internet Archives. However, the author, Gerald M. Ackerman, provides really interesting and helpful commentary. This is especially helpful when doing Bargue as a solo pursuit. Mr. Santos presentation is great.
Gracias.
very informative video.
Thanks Cesar for responding ; Ah! reflected light in the shadows, I get the picture [ pun ]
Anthony Ryder wrote a really good book about figure drawing. I hightly recommend it.
Este metodo es chulisimo una vez que entiendes los valores de las degradaciones de las sombras

it's a pity you was not my drawing teacher when i was in university !
I like the square/oval pencil.
Over the years of learning Art, I have discovered that the books I skipped to be less glamorous are the real deal. Books Like this and J.D Harding's and Robert Henri, Guptill, Richard Hale, Harrison, Poore etc sit around untouched, yet after learning art you return to these books and bang your head on the wall. You already have the treasure, everyone is selling you gold plated crap now a days.
I'm amazed by your art work man.. you're a real artist ! By th way am a beginner in charcoal draw ( i used to draw with graphite pencil) , i would like to have your opinion about what i have drawn i mean correcting me and giving me some advices.. Thank u
Cool!
at the video 7:28, the most reflected light should be darker than the darker half-tone, non?

if i want to learn how to draw a portrait from life or out of a book or from a monitor where should i start???
Just started, I did the preliminary reading for it but naively ignore it and started with the cast profile portrait as I'm currently working on a profile work for my own collection, I'm baffled by how hard it is haha I initially, naively, thought itd be 'easy' compared to my own work but my goodness I'm learning a lot already, I'm tempted to put my own work for for the frseeable and just work on Bargue copies for some time. Other than Harold speed I find it the best drawing book around. Any other book recommendations?
Again thank you
Doing it for a couple of weeks. I decided, after years of rushing at art, to stop and return to the basics for a recicling. This book are awsome and im learning many things left behind. Great video, Cesar! But i have little doubt about feedback: And if i do not have a teacher or artist to point out my mistakes? This is my reality, for example. It's difficult to judge a quality line or a good shadow representation without a external judgment. What is your sugestion to surpess this obstacle?
Hello Cesar, I am about to start the course from the book on my own. Were I live art workshops aren't that available and when they are the quality of teaching is very poor. I don't think anyone actually offers a course using the Bargue method. Do you have any advice concerning self-critique? Maybe the most frequent mistakes done by your students? Generally things I should look out for when I finish my drawings. Even if I can't get all of them at least I can try to get some for the time being. Thanks
Fascinating and well explained....wonder what your thoughts are on doing studies within time limits..or does putting that kind of pressure restrict learning.
