Drawing and Painting Trees with the Fibonacci Method / Beginner Lesson

Drawing and Painting Trees may seem a bit complicated, but learning more about how they grow using the Fibonacci method can greatly enhance your artistic representation of them.
I hope you enjoy this lesson that should be helpful for the Beginner artist, but also for any artistic level. I also demonstrate pastel techniques using pressure, angles and twisting that work well when drawing and painting trees. Enjoy!

    Grew up on a farm. Observation lead to me being good at perspective, painting trees and good with colour. I only learned about the Fibonacci sequence/golden rule much later in life but I was already doing what you’re doing, including using the side of your pastel and twisting it. Love seeing you share your talent and you’re a natural teacher.

    This is a great teaching, so helpful and most interesting, too. I have been trying to figure out the structure of trees, to give the impressionistic a true base. Alas, I am not a Fibonacci - however, he did it for me, and you took me to him. Great! Thank you so much! I love sitting in your classroom!

    Hello Susan 😀 I was struggling with it, yesterday I ruined one of my practice paintings coz of my mistakes in making trees,😔 Pls do make one video on detailing of near objects as well(like detailing grasses & giving hues).😅 Fibonacci sequence as I recall from my classes, my prof said everything around us is a product of Fibonacci numbers, combining this with the video you once uploaded on Fibonacci series, it just gave some fantastic mathematical mindsets to consider, I sent this video along with the earlier one to my prof as well. Now m waiting for his reply 🙂. Also I was talking to Jackie(watercolorgypsyandwellness) about "do we require a large amount of pastels for a painting,?" ,I think, generally a beginner should but artists generally through experience knows the exact color which one has to use, She did tell me that u have some videos on making paintings with just 12-13 pastels, which I've watched but in the end m just a novice before the genius. Happy Diwali ❤️ Keep posting more 😊 Love from India ❤️

    Hello friend... I hope you find this video helpful and I am just amazed at how the creation has such logic and order... (definitely didn't come about by chance!). That's neat that you sent my other video to your professor. You must be reading my mind, because it is on my to-do list to create more step-by-step videos with a limited palette. I thing this really helps beginner artists and also keeps it doable since pastels can get so expensive. Keep learning and I always love your joyful spirit!!

    Hi Susan I am a fan of your work. I heard you say Unison is a good set for beginners. What brand is for professional artists? Thank you for sharing your wonderful skills

  • @monetcafe

    @monetcafe

    Unison is actually a great brand for a professional artist and I always recommend that beginner artists don’t scrimp on quality pastels because they make such a difference. If you start with a student grade Pastel you may never want to paint with pastels again. Of course as a beginner artist you may not be able to buy a large quantity but it’s definitely worth buying the better pastels. Some of my favorite brands are… Unison, Terry Ludwig, Sennelier , mountain vision and more. Hope that helps, and one of these days I am hoping to offer her a money café starter set comprised of various professional grades. Have fun!

    You should consider buying half stick sets when starting out, The Schmincke and Sennelier half stick sets come in wonderful ranges. I would lean towards the 120 sets, but it is because I need more choices! Most quality pastels, NOT ALL! offer half stick sets. I also believe that if you go to cheap you will despise pastels and not enjoy the painting experience.
