Drawbridge Lowers For Two Trains Then Raises After

Ойын-сауық

This is a video I made while on vacation in New Jersey in Point Pleasant Beach at the Drawbridge of the North Jersey Coastline railroad also known as the New York and Long Branch railroad NJ Transit. The bridge is located on the Manasquan river and a pier located next to the bridge where I used to go fishing of off when I was a kid back in the 1970's and 80's of the bridge lowering for 2 New Jersey transit trains crossing and after the bridge raising back up. This video contains both off and on train views of the bridge.

Been thrown off a train at that station back in a snow storm at midnight when I was a teenager back in the late 70's and had to walk to Friendly Ice Cream on hwy 34 in Matawan to get a ride home.

Awesome Video Alan! A few questions: 1. Is there a speed restriction for trains crossing this bridge? 2. When a train aproches the bridge, does it have to stop and wait for the bridge to lower or does the bridge close way before the train arrives? 3. What bridge is that seen at 2:49 down the river?

Good video, I read in a magazine NJ Transit is planning to replace the current bascule bridge soon (unknown range of when they'll begin work) with a newer double track bridge with 2 tracks to enable 2 trains to simultaneously cross the bridge in which 1 train doesn't have to pause for the other train. Plus, the current bridge is old and it needs replaced before it develops problems such as the mechanism getting stuck open or closed.

They also need to send the electric line down another 17 miles to complete the electrification on the North Jersey Coastline

I'm almost positive there is a speed limit however I don't know what it is. Trains usually don't have to stop and wait for the bridge as there is a station about a half mile away on either side however being a single track draw bridge you can occasionally see one train waiting for another to pass. And at 2;49 that is the Manasquan River Bridge On Route 70.

Yes, it is called a draw cabin and the operator is the draw captain to vessels and block operator to the trains. I worked there off and on during the mid 1970's to NJT came in.
