Not much going on in Nebraska so when something like this happens, we usually grab a beer when the sirens go off, and head outside to watch. Yeah people die from it, but I would venture to say statistically you're safer watching a tornado go by than driving. It's a mitigated risk.

Same here! We were in IHOP when the power went out and the building shook. Came out of IHOP… no Walmart, no Home Depot…. Joplin looked like it was hit with a nuke 😢.

@@smooth_ops2942 You are correct! The Joplin tornado had multiple vertices like this one that formed into a massive 3/4 to 1 mile wide huge wedge with a big eye in the center. As it rolled over me hanging on to a well attached toilet for dear life, thought the wind & pressure was going to rip me apart. After the primary wall (1/4 mile thick) passed over me it calmed down to where I could open an eye to see sunshine on my arm. I looked up thru the eye of the tornado which was relatively quiet & calm, then 15 seconds later the secondary wall passed over me which was way worse than the 1st wall as there was nothing left of the building. I just have some scars but 161 of us here in Joplin lost their lives and many, many more had permanent injuries. The hospital was a horror show of serious injuries but those medical people really knew how to keep it all together thank God for them!

I could not believe the nonchalantedness with some people just walking their dogs or peering out their windows and filming and motorists casually driving down roads where that tornado is wreaking havoc extremely nearby. like WTF? My heart goes out to the victims who lost their homes or their lives. This was just aweful.

My sister worked at Bergen Mercy hospital in 1975 when it was hit by tornadoes in Omaha. Her car was destroyed. She was also working at the hospital in Joplin when it was destroyed by a tornado. In short, if my sister works there, don't hang around.

You know I lived in Nebraska for 5 years as a teenager 3 years after the 1975 tornado and people were still talking about it and there was a front page clipping from the world herald on the wall at Bellevue East high school, that tornado was huge and frightening looking for sure, then I knew someone when I lived in Springfield Missouri who went through the tornado in Joplin, I called from Memphis to his music store in Joplin, sounded like he was in shock, he said that was something else ✌️

I am an Omaha Resident and all I can say is that by the grace of God, no one was killed in our area that day. Particularly the stupid people watching out the window and filming this. Every Meteorologists in the city said "GET TO SHELTER NOW! This is a matter of life and death". Pray for the people who lost their homes. Some are STILL trying to find their pets. And we have another potential repeat forecast for tomorrow.

That was my parents’ neighbor taking that -- they live on the bluff above that field there by the Elkhorn river … mom said it sounded like 20 trains as it went by but then it took out the next neighborhood north of them that everyone has seen on the media - hundreds of homes gone - not one death…

I'm so sorry that this happened to your beautiful town. I had a chance to drive around your town, while I was there for a transplant at Nebraska Medicine, in 2023. I had to be there 1 day, after the tornado hit for my yearly checkup. I drove from Mississippi and stayed 15 minutes away from your town. I pray for healing and recovery. I'm so truly sorry. We saw the storm from our home via the weather channel in Mississippi. We prayed!!

It is really weird to see all the cars that don't seem to have any problem driving near or towards the tornados.

One thing that I miss about living in the Midwest, outside the cost of living, is that there are tornado sirens. It took a tornado hitting a mile north of me in Highlands Ranch, CO (Denver metro) for me to find out that there are no tornado sirens in the area. My phone did not even go off stating that a tornado was on the ground.

Amazing footage but the people filming from 1:54 onwards need to be below ground. The tornado might seem far away but the playset disintegrating is proof that they aren't safe. Windows could still blow out, roofs could come off and walls can be caved in by debris at that distance. Please learn from this.

What I've learned from this is that there were lots of people who do NOT like to listen to warnings and get WAY too close or too exposed to a mile-wide tornado for it to possibly safe. PLEASE seek shelter if you're not a professional, people. I pray for a quick recovery for Elkhorn.

Hurricanes last hours (not just 1-2 min) and are just as violent, then the water comes. They're also hundreds of miles wide, where tornadoes are rarely even a mile long. Nobody who has experienced both would rather have a hurricane.

Good grief! That thing was monstrous! That guy videoing right through his plate glass window as the tornado (and his lumber swingset) goes by is lucky he wasn't cut to ribbons. I saw the multiple vortices but that wasn't Dead Man Walking. The view on the last one was too close for comfort! Wow, so glad to hear that injuries were at a minimum. Blessings to all in that area.

If that footage of that tornado with all those multi-vortexes was played in slow motion, or frame by frame, one might, or might not could have seen “The Dead Man Walking”. I didn’t see it either, but you have to just catch them just right. The last I seen, was a video I just seen last year of the 2013 El Reno tornado. It was one I had never seen, and had watched all that was on KZread at one time( Yea, I’m a complete weather nerd, ever since I lost my home to a tornado) It showed that thing at it smaller stage, marching across a field. It looked just like a giant walking!! I played it over and over thinking I was seeing stuff! Even played it frame by frame. It was the creepiest thing I’ve ever seen! I’ve tried to find it again once, but there are so many video’s posted I couldn’t watch them all.

😢wow! 11-2010 I was living in Pasadena, CA. A huge wind storm hit the Los Angeles area. No rain. The clean-up took weeks. I was out of electricity for a week. I've been through a few quakes. Tornados 🌪 scare me 😳.

The people looking out the window were Soooooo calm! I would have been a terrified mess!

This actually truly IS some of THE best tornado footage ever seen...being almost directly underneath that curved vortice - without a bunch of rain , darkness or debris obstructing the detail was amazing - thanks for posting this !

That tornado was right behind that house and the lights were still on in the house at 3:43. I know Nebraska has the most reliable power grid in the U.S. but still, thats impressive.

They do monthly tornado siren test and everyone has been instructed numerous times over the years what to do. Also, almost everybody has basements wish they can flee to in order to be relatively safe from the tornadoes. Finally, almost nobody goes to their basements because everybody stays out and watches the tornadoes.

I see getting footage is more important than being safe these days.

Dramatic is an understatement. Incredible one of a kind footage.

If I could make another comment... I am hoping that your channel can get the word out to people. I live in Iowa and I was watching live coverage of storm chasers this past week. These are people that are trained in what they do. One of the main complaints from these trained spotters is that people were pulling their cars up under underpasses to get away from the tornadoes. THIS IS THE WORSE THING YOU CAN DO! They were causing traffic jams and causing accidents. They had put themselves in more danger in doing this, plus causing others to be stuck unable to get away from the tornadoes. Tell them not to do this.

Reminds me of the 1999 Andover tornado. It was that wide and had multiple vortexes. My business was hit along with all my friends homes. I know from experience what this poor people are going through. They will see that their community will draw together and help each other rebuild. Prayers to all who lost their homes and businesses.

I can’t even imagine living in an area where they have these tornadoes. What happens to the people that were in those houses? Your whole life is going. God bless you people that live there and it sure was a beautiful area where this happened.

Tornadoes can happen anywhere. But the fact is I've lived in Kansas City, Missouri all my 58 years and have never actually seen a twister in person. As a kid we did have to go to the basement a few times and had one touch down outside the mall a mile from our house. And years after I moved away from home, one did some damage in my old neighborhood including minor damage to my dad's house while he was in the basement (a couple other houses were much more badly damaged, mainly by large uprooted trees falling on them). They are very violent storms, but even if they get a mile wide, that is still a narrow path, relatively speaking. And there's lots of open space here for them to pass through. It's when they hit a densely populated area that it gets bad.

Unbelievable Wedge Tornado, I remember living near Omaha when I was a teenager, seemed like every few years a Big one would roll somewhere near, that's why it's tornado Alley

This enough to make someone appreciate living in the cold, snowy mountains.

Best footage ever at 2:08 and forward. The videographer was right on the edge from beginning to end. That’s the kind of footage I want to see. Something that makes me feel like I’m right on the edge.

What I always find so eerie about these storms is the sheer calmness of it. Almost like watching the river flow. Once the the sirens die, there is almost a peace within the brutal chaos and destruction.

As a Hallam, NE 5/22/04 tornado survivor I am so grateful this was not any worse. Thoughts are with you all.

That rotation is intense!

Looked like twin twisters! Also, the noise is so strange! Ive been in one and it sounded like a jet taking off on a carrier. But these tornadoes made weird sounds. My prayers to any families affected by these storm's! ❤❤Texas 😊

the high pitch whine was likely the tornado sirens in the area going off. But yeah, they have an eerie roar.

"RUN, RENEE, RUN!!" omg. As much as I think People who run out & take these Videos are incredibly crazy I also am grateful that they do as I sit here and watch each & every!

I’m from the Elkhorn/omaha area and amazingly no one was killed here and there were multiple vortex

Interesting to see several personal videos. The multiple vortex was so frightening, and the damage done was very sad to encounter. (Thank you for sharing this. It reminds us how fortunate we are to not witness this firsthand.)

Around Michigan it seems that the tornadoes always come at night. I’m 60 and have never seen one but several have come close to my town. This is some incredible footage.

6:00 the amount of vertices in that thing. Good lord. On a side note, people of Nebraska, the best videos are taken horizontally 🙄

That thing was a monster. It's amazing how many people are unaware of how close the tornado is to them. Motorists often do not see them. Homeowners bravely record them, but it's not wise to stand near windows when they are nearby, as they could throw a vehicle at you, or a house, or whatever is flying around in it. Tennessee here. We lost 19 people in 2020 in my town from an EF4. Seriously, take shelter.

One of the videos of the multiple vortex structures is the best I've ever seen! Incredible!!

Video confirmed 2 things for me: 1. Sound of siren is as terrifying as sight of tornado - when watching from comfort of YT 2. Elkhorn was (and will once again be) a beautiful neighbourhood to live in

That would be terrifying to experience! I've never seen anything like this before,even in news reports.

To be honest. It's really hard to hit the like button on this because I live in Alabama and have been thru several tornadoes. We had friends houses destroyed in 2011 from the Tuscaloosa one but, it was over in Ohatchee. Same tornado but, everyone knows it because of Tuscaloosa. Then about 2 years ago, one in Fultondale Alabama. We didn't get hit directly but, it was less than 1/2 mile away. My buddy and I were the 1st on scene with the fire chief and one other fireman. We dug thru alot and saw alot. I've seen my share of deceased people but, that was bad. I know it sucks. I Hate them damn things.

As a 2011 Super Outbreak survivor and witness, it really never gets easier hearing those sirens and seeing a tornado at the same time. It gives me this cold chill of “people are going to die.”

This was very good. No narration, just raw video. Really enjoyed it (for a change).

Tornado hits...immediately runs to the window and starts filming instead of taking shelter 🤣
