Yes...all valid points, but what if you don't like D&D? I've noticed that a lot of modern gamers are fans of game mechanisms first and theme last, if at all, and will play games that have subpar art and graphic design if those mechanisms are good. Perfectly valid, totally. But for me both have to appeal and this game just isn't for me. Plus, I love games that kick my ass, so much more value in the victory 🙂. Great video, guys, thanks!

I can totally understand wanting to be invested in both the theme and mechanics of the game...but I guess it would depend on what you don't like about D&D. Is it just the medieval fantasy thing that you don't like or the D&D art style, characters or creatures? For us you could replace the theme with generic fantasy and I think we'd like it the same. The D&D thing is just gravy.

Are you worried that 60% might be too high?

Nope, I think that should actually be a pretty good experience if it’s around there. With the progression system I feel like it’ll be a lot more fun if you can actually get upgrades and improvements frequently as opposed to once every 5-6 games. During the demo it was actually explained that you can manually adjust the difficulty as well, shuffling in certain encounter cards if you want to. There’s also 8 “scenarios” in the box as well so there’s likely a good range of difficulties there too.

I played it with an experienced gaming crew at Gencon and no, 60% is definitely not too high. The challenge is still significant and a small mistake can be costly or lead to failure. I have some issues with phrasing on some of the cards/rules, and for a D&D titled game there's no actual "role-playing" encouraged in the rules, so other players at the table aren't as likely to really get into the fun of playing their characters, using them only as stats to apply, but overall the game works, it can be fun, and the challenge/chance of failure/being overwhelmed by a horde on the table is still very high IMO. (Yes, I enjoy role playing characters in themed board games which makes for a lot more laughs around the table during play) :)
