The multi form works like this, 4 each with 25% and when the others get taken out it goes back to each him equally, so 1 gone the other 3 are have 33.3% power and so on till only one is left

Tien is treated so bad in DBS, everyone gets a power boost while Tien, who does not feature in most of the episodes because he is always busy trainning does not get much stronger. When you watch his part in DB you will see how important and genius he was back then😔

There's a conspiracy theory that it may be because he and Chiaotzu are vaguely Chinese characters (some say he's an alien, but that's gets bounced back and forth). It didn't stick out much in Z, as just about everything without golden hair was getting pushed aside, but in Super it's more prevalent.

@@CalciumChief I heard that before as well, I'm pretty sure he is supposed to resemble some kind of Chinese myth of the third eye opened through training and meditation. Perhaps it wouldn't be quite convenient to have a Chinese inspired character in a global show, so loved in the west (while also in the east). Ultimately I think that Toritama just moved on from him, even if that hurts a lot of DB fans

@@CalciumChief He's been canonically of alien & human descent (Triclops is the name of the race; super original, that) for a while, at least since '95 (when it was mentioned in the Daizenshuu 4 guide). Granted, he's likely based off the three-eyed Erlang Shen (who, among other feats, fought with -Goku- Sun Wukong in the Journey to the West), but I don't think its an anti-China bias so much as who Toriyama wants to write about.

I see it more like he knows Jiren is the strongest and wants to make sure he fights him properly. The only way he can do that is if the fight goes uninterrupted which can't happen if there's still so many people active in the tournament so he's gotta take as many of them as he can before he can actually get the kind of fight he truly wants with him.

It's clear Roshi had some respect, but Tenshinhan gets the shaft. Everyone's getting super duper power boosts before the tournament, but in his own episode, Tenshinhan is overshadowed by Roshi and Gohan. He's been pushed to the side pretty much since his big Cell moment, but here it's really noticeable. All he does is spam his Kikoho and can't even take out one guy without a suicide run. 3:27 Vegeta lost his tail, Frieza got cut in half, Cell lost legs and an twice, Piccolo lost an arm too. We had a bit of that, but now only Piccolo is allowed, cause he can regrow it. It's kinda silly, cause it highlights how you can't do that on other characters now. He doesn't even have purple blood anymore, which was already changed from red once Toriyama decided on the whole alien thing. 4:46 He did it in the previous tournamnet Super had.

what Melon is talking about is that there are no long lasting physical concequences to the battle. And well, Tien gets shafted through all of Z anyways, like he just has like 3 episodes that lets him shine

Tien had his wrist chopped off by Nappa in the Saiyan saga while Vegeta was watching it all go down and was enjoying it because this was when Vegeta was still evil.

That bit at the end where Goku casually puts down the rock after Vegeta blasts them, lol. His face is like "whelp, shows over." Gets me every time 😅

The way Vegeta went "NOBODY CARES!!!!" never fails to make me laugh.

There’s so many moments in Super that call back to OG DB… like there’s one scene that calls back to the moment in Dragonball that’s my favorite in all of Super. Ima remind you once you get to that episode on Og Dragonball

You could have done with watching a few of the pre tournament eps, think you might not understand Frieza's motive/plan when you get to that ep

It's unfortunate indeed that Tien essentially did worse than anyone on Universe 7 team. He basically assisted with one kill and then self sacrificed this one...that's it. He never really threw a punch lol. Krillin was first eliminated but he did more than Tien. It would have been nice if the ogs (like Tien, Krillin and Roshi) formed their own small group and eliminated more people before getting eliminated. Of course, Roshi still has a role to play... ;)

I like how most reactors complain about how Goku focuses on Jiren too much during the Tournament when there's 69 other fighters he also needs to eliminate. Meanwhile, you're like "why is Goku wasting time on anyone that isn't Jiren anyway?" You definitely get the Goku brain lol

Vegeta to Tien : looks to me like youre slacking off Vegeta the very next time we see him on screen : 🪨🪑🙇‍♂️ is that gohan and piccolo? Wtf are they doing?

Harmira and Prum are my favorite Universe 2 fighters mainly because they were the only ones who didn’t get caught up in all that love bullshit.

I think it’s implied that those sniper shots were moving to fast to the point piccolo and gohan and vegeta and goku had trouble dodging them too..and they are faster and stronger then tien lol so yeah he couldn’t dodge them even if he tried lol

Wait, didn't Krillin mention in this exact episode that Tien couldn't dodge because his power was quartered?

Tien is one of Japan's most hated/disliked DB characters... no real reason why and most outside of the country assume it has to do with the fact he's very much based on Chinese martial artists. But like I said, he just regularly rates extremely low in popularity contests while the other Z Fighters fluctuate much more... or are Goku/Veg/Pickle...

They did it dirty on Tien, he's an absolute beast in OG Dragonball and he never slacked off on DBZ and DBS. Unlike Krillin and Yamcha, he never stopped training and always strives to be best version of himself even tried to take on those enemies well beyond his league.

Krillin got his potential unlocked during the Frieza Saga in DBZ, which is why he should be notably stronger than Tien, despite the amounts of training differences. Yamcha might get more "glorious" moments than Tien, but he is still significantly weaker than Tien

I think it's like with piccolo, Tien and Vegeta have never interacted that much after Nappa killed him. I doubt they make small talk at Bulma's parties.

Goku fights how he eats. He needs a couple of appetizers before he gets to the main course

Sadly this is the last and only bit of respect Tienshinhan gets in ALL of Dragonball (with the exception of him finally becoming a grandmaster and opening his own dojo). Seriously, why the hell do Toei animation or Toriyama or any of the other writers for Dragonball hate Tien so much? He’s the most dedicated TRUE martial artist of the entire cast, as well as the most technical, he’s a top tier character in DBFZ for a reason! Hell if I were writing the manga I would have Tien be one of Pan’s teachers, have her learn not just from Piccolo or Gohan but all of the most technically proficient fighters in the world.

Economy of attention. Krillin is fan fave and comes with 18 as a package deal and Yamcha is the but monkey. Tien too serious for that so he really doesn't have a role.

Tien’s loss was so pointless. He runs into a battle where Goku and Vegeta were gonna fight the two other fighters. He literally could have just watched like Gohan and Piccolo.

Dragonball is more about brute force, will power and techniques. This is like a Naruto episode. Interesting.

Tien's multi-form technique is very much like Naruto's shadow clones. There's only one true self, all others are fakes. Suffice to say, Naruto smarter than Tien applying it tactically.

In the world of Dragon Ball we absolutely should allow for characters without regeneration to lose their limbs sometimes because Senzu beans have been shown to grow back missing flesh as was the case with Goku after his fight with Piccolo at the World Martial Arts Tournament. Man literally have a hole in his chest but grew it all back instantly once he ate the magic bean. The problem with that tho is an extreme lessening of stakes since the character taking the Senzu bean is fully restored so having too many of them kind of ruins things. You could hack the limbs of weaker characters off as a solid excuse to "waste" Senzu beans on less power relevant characters. That's the only way it could work but it'd be too much trouble for the kind of low-effort stories they go for in the anime most times so Toei isn't even gonna bother. Piccolo also benefits from being an alien so they can make his blood look less real to get by broadcasting standards in Japan which is the most likely culprit as to why we only see him get chopped up like this haha.

I think if one of Tien’s forms stayed in it would be cheating right? Or possibly against the rules. Since the forms are still a part of him then he is technically eliminated.

@@MarisuSedai I mean if we use your analogy then in the original tournaments someone could be hanging on the edge of the ring but as soon as their foot or some other body part touched the ground outside they were out regardless how much of them were still considered in the ring.

People say that they did Tien dirty but perhaps they forget this tournament consists of some of the strongest fighters from all of the universes. So maybe it took the energy of all 3 of Tien's clones to take Harmira with him cause he was that strong. But I agree that Tien's performance in the tournament was kinda uneventful, especially if you're a fan of the character.

Still finishing the episode, but from the interactions between Vegeta and Tien, it is very... Minimal of I recall 🤔 I think they talked the most in the Cell saga in Z, but that's really it. Tien is missing in the Buu saga and is essentially non-existent in Super until he is recruited for the Tournament of Power. That is all based on my memory though, so not the most reliable, but I feel like that is accurate

Tien appears in the buu saga, but only after vegeta already died, and fat buu becomes super buu.

Roshi definitely did a better job

Most likely if there was one Tien left, in the ring he would only 25% of his full power.

Tien trains all the time unlike Krillin and in Dragon Ball he was a different beast. No way Krillin is consider stronger or better fighter than him. Also Super did Tien so bad 😔

That's the problem with Tien, he is more wasted than piccolo, given that plenty of tecquniques used by evryone in Z came from Tien. He is a fascinating fighter, Just badly written.

This is the Dumbest episode of DBS i've ever seen , did the writers forget Tien has the Solar Flare ? He could've easily solar fared those 2 and kicked them out of the ring. Also why does Tien need all of his clones to hold ONE GUY ? He only needed 1 or 2 clones to take out Harmira. It's like they were looking for the Laziest way to eliminate Tien from the tournament.

I think Yamcha might take that title. At least Tien did *something* during the Cell Saga besides have a hole punched in his chest. Still, I kind of respect both of them - no BS unlocking full potential from Guru, no crazy forms, but they're both still willing to step in and defend the Earth with everything they have.

Yamcha is the butt of the joke and does his job well, Ten Shin Han is supposed to be a serious character, also against an sniper of all his weird ass techniques he didn't fire a single do-don-pa you know, his signature move that is that is a super fast, super condensed blast or didn't use HIS other signature move the solar flare but that would imply that he is somewhat capable we can't have that
