Yea, I lowkey thought it was decent. I know that every move takes a second to commence, so if you input everything early fast you actually move decent speed lol, you can cancel all opponents combos by tapping block twice, and you can cancel moves mid combo.

GT has its moments, i even feel that if the character Baby was in super it would enrich the series

This game was epic for its time! The build-up system used in this game is badass! I just can't believe in all this time no other Dragon Ball game ever tried to create such an Innovative build up system.

Man I loved this game. Unlocking ss4 goku and vegito. Shit was lit🔥🔥

Dude the game was great. It was kind of slow, but the blasts battles. The training mode. And you didn't have to be knocked up in the air to fly.

I literally had the Japanese version that I had to put the conversion disc in first then the actual game.

I actually made my friends laugh their asses off referencing how slow characters moved, and for whatever reason, Vegeta seemed extra slow turning around lol, so for a time, when a friend called me, i just turned very slowly, and at apoint, they all knew it was a Final Bout Vegeta turnaround lol. Kids laugh of the silliest things lol I was like 11 or 12.

@@bermonz I actually tried the game after this video and tried to be good at it and now.... My opinion is completely opposite. This game is really good. And considering the time it was released in it really awsome. The only problem I would have right now which is kinda nitpicking but it's the dub. I wish this game had the funimation cast from Z rather than the ocean dub. The dub isn't bad but I actually find the voices funny. But the atworks,cover arts and the intro are just so good

@@jiten9843 No, actually it was pretty awesome. it was actually decent for what DB video games could do back in the day. This was around the time of the first games with 3d graphics, instead of 2d. This was the first DB game that you could actually make the characters fly up and down on command, instead of it being launched into a screen where it's in the air. Not many DB games had that feature back in the day.

Most fans just hate Dragonball GT because everyone else hated it

This was just a bad game. I cannot see how anyone thought it was good unless you just completely skipped out on classic fighters like Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Killer Instinct. Those came out on the Super Nintendo/Sega era and were miles better than this. Not to mention, stuff like Bushido Blade and the Tekken series came out around the PS gen.

While Final Bout is not as responsive as Tekken,Virtua Fighter,Soul Calibur or as fast. Combat wise it's still far superior to most of the other Dragonball games that predated it and even Budokai which relies less on skills and more of who can do a faster dash attack.

No. It was pretty decent. Abt as fast paced and clunky as any 3D fighter but with a much more free roaming feel with the flight and foreground and background movements.

Seriously I remember my cousin talking about GT 11-12 years ago, and we were always so intrigued by it. He even brought up AF back then as well lol

At least Final Bout doesn't have 10000000000 Gokus like Dokkan Battle.

I really have to say, the Final Bout Intro still gives me the chills :D

I feel like this video was made without any real knowledge about the game. You could fly without getting hit into the air. The leveling system wasn’t so bad either. The power beam battles were pretty good. There’s so much about this game that you guys missed. I think you both should replay it.

Derek Solomon thank you for saying what I was thinkn. Flying was easy just up and L1, turn the demos off in options so when you did your special moves it didn’t do that long demo, they just immediately did it, also you could fly on the ground using L1 and down back or forward. The meteor combo was dope, also if you did your special move when your opponent was about to die it would turn into an immediate finishing move, while doing it they would sell out talking trash then kill you. Personally the best part about the game was building up your character. I trained SS4 Goku to level 99. At that point my combos were one hit or two hit killers, the beams and blasts explosion waves were huge. For this to be a playstation one game it was epic.... just playing it for 20 minuets not really knowing how to play is equivalent to playing Marvel vs capcom 2 or 3 and just pushing buttons. It comes off wack..

you guys only hated it because you didn't figure out how to level up really fast. it was a process but starting as level one, you keep fighting the final guy of the level until you beat him and then go from the first guy to I think it was number 10. I made my SSJ4 Goku a level 99 and it wasn't fair to the others that went against me in 2 player. one punch and I won every time

also you didn't have to get knocked into the air to fly , and it was about timing. if a beam attack was shot at you, you waited till the last second and fired back for a beam battle

Ultimate Battle 22 is rough too. I was so confused when I saw it in a target for like $20 like 2 years AFTER I got a PS2. UB 22 was pretty cool in an arcade tho

I remember playing this game and ultimate battle 22 before the rerelease. I was too young to actually understand how to play, but I also had the same wild thoughts at seeing the gold oozaro and the different characters. And looking back, I totally agree on the point about Chris Ayres. It's really weird. If I ever see Chris Ayres at a convention, I want to ask him what he thinks of it lol.

My brother told me " take normal goku and charge your ki for 20 minutes, you'll transform into super saiyan" I was 8 at that time, I believed him...

I played it in 2000. It was neat seeing these older stuff. It was still during the freeza saga. So all of this stuff was kinda new. I was watching the cell saga in a different country I went to. So the buu saga was kinda happening. And like geekdom says, GT looked cool and as a look forward, it was neat. But it was also kinda bland but not horrifically bad.

Really impossible to find when I was younger my friend found it in the Japanese version n we had to buy the spring thing n a disc it came with just to play it.

speaking of dragon ball games, looks like Xenoverse 2 is coming to the Nintendo switch. I was thinking about getting it on PC, but I think i'll wait (I don't like playing games with a keyboard).

i'm gonna be completely honest with you: I have no idea what a Bluetooth is. I like consoles, you just plug them in, they come with a controller, you play the game. with PC gaming i'd have to learn a bunch of this techno mumbo jumbo and replace parts and download stuff and actually learn how to take care of my computer. and I mostly stick with Nintendo cause I grew up with it thus I only own Nintendo consoles. I mean, I guess I could play it on my brother in law's Xbox one, but of course he and my sister have there own place, and I don't want to learn how to drive.

Being the die-hard DB fan that I was (who am I kidding, I still am. Go Super), this game was amazing to me. For the time, being able to play as the DB warriors was mind blowing to me, despite the choppy gameplay. I loved it.

this episode brought back so many memories bro...toshinden!!!I watched DBZ on the international channel in japanese with no subtitles completely oblivious to what the fucking they were saying. times have changed... keep these videos coming man. great stuff

You're right. The main problem with flying was that it was actually too free in this game, and made getting to a good playing field a pain in the ass. It was just another way that made combat much slower than the butoden games which made flying just another plane to fight on quickly.

You guys just took me back, god. I remember seeing toys in shops of Dragon Ball Z characters and not know who any of them were. I remember getting a Gotanks toy around the time the cell games or mid android saga was airing on TV, and not having any clue who this character was. For a bit, I thought that the purple and black hair was going to be the next step in SSJ. Before we all got word of ssj3 and all. Man, fun times. It's the one thing I hate about the internet, nothing is a super big surprise anymore. I mean, how crazy would it have been if we had no clue about Battle Of Gods till one day boom, trailer in theater or on TV. Ya bringing me back Geek, ya bringing me back.

To fly you didn't have to get knocked off, I think you had to hold down one of the shoulder buttons (L1 or R1.. I think it was the dash button as well) and press upward. That's weird because back then my friends and I actually really enjoyed this game.

Is the beggining of 3D fighting games, and the developers in dat time don't know much how to work... compare Tekken 1 to Tekken 3, and you see how a 3D fighting game needs to work.

I had this, and UB22. I wanted UB22 because it had a ton of characters, but I found it played like shit. Even though Final Bout was slow, you could get used to the timing, though I could never pull off counters. Funny, I thought Mystic Gohan was Yamcha the first time I played Hyper Dimension for SNES.

I remember playing this game late at night at my uncle's place. This was my very first dragon ball game. Still love it 20 years later.

Man, I can totally connect to what you guys are saying there. I saw this game a little later, but where I grew up, you had these Dragon Ball pencil cases with art from the Boo arc and the movies on them and I thought Ultimate Gohan was Yamcha, Bojack was some transformation of Piccolo and I had no idea who Trunks etc were. It was a crazy time to be a Dragon Ball fan. That and Pokemon were pretty much what every kid in school talked about.

Hero of Heroes was the best thing to come out of this game.

In Mexico, Dragon ball GT was out around 1999. I made sure I got well informed and I was super popular with the lore I had acquired. I only played this game to try unlock ss4 and I could never do it. It dragon ball legend is absolutely the best classic dbz game

What if the turtle hermit (master Roshi) used the mafuuba on first form Frieza in ROF? Would that work?

spamming the triangle button when you were in a ki blast struggle *shudders* and that may have actually been one of the better button setups... I remember playing the import back in the day (ty goldfinger) because the localized version was non existant. Super Butoden on SNES was the jam though.

I have to comment on this because this game holds a special small place in my heart. my cousins had this game and showed it to me back in like 2001 I'm guessing. it was before the buu saga was on TV. I remember just being very excited to play and when I did I had no idea was goin on. goku in a blue gi? kid goku? majin buu? a different trunk from what I know from the android saga? and the game play was hard to get use to. but it did get me excited for the future of dragonball as it made me wonder a lot. who were these characters? I was excited for the future of dragonball. I loved them days

Battle Arena Toshinden!!! My very first PS1 game, so so awesome... The huge open arenas really caught my attention, and the fireball effects etc.

Ahh memories, i remember having this game when i was young and thinking it was the best game ever just because it was Dragon Ball.......boy was i wrong. Love that Final Bout Intro Though!!!!!!

Toshinden was actually supposed to get release on Steam by a company called Console Classics but they just kinda vanished after releasing two lesser known games that no one remembered.

Thanks for the stroll down memory lane. A couple notes from an avid player:1. You actually could fly manually without getting kicked into the air. I believe if you held all the L and R buttons you could do it. I did think it was funny that you say you have to be kicked in the air to fly, then around 11:40 in the video you show Goku fly up to Cell. 2. I think one of most interesting features of the game that I didn't see much at the time was the build up mode. You could pick a fighter to train up, but it wasn't as simple as you level up and then naturally get better at everything; you would mostly power up the moves you specifically used. You could horrendously break the game if you played kid Goku and just spammed neutral jab forever because you'd go under most of the adult characters, but it was also fun to get the combos trained up as well. While a lot of people I know complained about the game, they almost all liked this feature because we could play our favorite characters but customize the move sets to fit our vision of the character (so my Future Trunks would fight differently than my friend's GT trunks). We almost ever played the arcade mode once we got into this whole other world.

My Story with this game: When I was a kid around 2001-2002 there was a mall in Puerto Rico I'd go to with my grandma and while she was looking in stores I used to go to this stand in the middle of the mall that actually sold this game and others. We could play the game right there for $1 for 10 minutes. I didn't understand the game but I simply loved it for some reason. A holiday came and my sister bought the game for me. It was new, for $55.00 plus $35 for the conversion disk we needed to insert before playing the game. Now for the gameplay, I learned how to Fly (R1 + Directional Buttons) and how to do a Kamehameha (Left, Down, right, triangle) and to charge (X+Square) really easily. but in order to win and beat the story mode I used Perfect Cell, stood in a corner and did the Perfect Barrier (down, left, right, triangle) over and over and kept defeat characters. The Hidden Characters (Vegeto, Z Goku, etc) were unlocked after you beat them in the story mode. defeating Baby was hard but I just kept doing Perfect Barriers until I killed him. I also remember the area called Build up. I used Z-Goku for that because I found out if I did a kick attack he had (left down right, triangle) he would deplete the enemy health fast. At the end of Build up you fight SSJ4 Goku but even if you beat him he's not unlocked. Thats as far as I got, but I remember having a great time with this game even if it was all in Japanese and I didn't understand.

Have you ever talked about Ultimate Battle 22? I remember that from when I was like 9 or 10.

me and my friends played this games a lot, we played the japanese edition. IT WAS AMAZING

I used to buy the Beckett Dragonball Z magazines weekly at my local grocery store when we took our trip to it with my mom. In those magazines, I learned about this game. The first 3D dragonball game and GT. I was amazed and wanted so badly to have it, but it cost $100+ online and wasn't sold anywhere. By the time I finally played it (after re-release) i couldn't believe anyone ever wanted it. By this point, I had already been too spoiled by the Budokai games.

Still waiting on Dragon Ball the video game where it takes place during the very first series with rpg elements. It could have a time changing storyline where you infect the timeline by interacting with the characters by either being friends or further into the relationship giving you different endings as you beat each arc. But, this is just a pipe dream, sadly. :(

I loved this game when I was a child. I think I can remember the trick you can put at the beginning to unlock everything. I looooooooved this game so badly

You could also level your character to the point where he or she almost 1 shots everything. Also you could power up and fly strategically. Also Vegetto, Piccolo and Vegeta had some of the funniest quips.

Back in the days where you'd stumble on to a rare shop that sold import stuff and would see wall scrolls from the Cell games and Buu Saga and this was before Funimation finished the the Frieza arc. I too found this game at Blockbuster. They only had one copy so I swear it probably went back and forth with me and couple of other people. Then I discovered other Dragon Ball Z roms when I was in highschool. Dragon Ball games sure have been a rollercoaster ride.

I remember seeing this game at Walmart back in the late 90s but i didn't know about dragon ball at the time. The cover for the game was always in the back of my head. It felt like a mandela effect cause nobody ever remembered seeing it. Anyways i was thinking about it and decided to research it and here i am.

I remember searching so hard for this game as a kid I remember thinking this was the best thing ever when I first turned it on and seeing that opening cutscene. Seeing all the cool stuff that wasn't on the show yet. Then I pressed start and pure unadulterated sadness.
