Dragon Age Inquisition - Complete AI guide

In this video I will try to help you create your own, functioning AI build in Dragon Age Inquisition!
The AI in DA:I is not exactly smart... but by selecting the right skills, tactics and combos, it can be effective.
I was very sick in the last two weeks so this took a long time. Longer than it should have been, but here it is. :)

    This is great stuff- thanks for taking the time to put it together and share it. As a long time player who has spent countless hours trying to tweak AI schemes, I can agree with every single thing you suggest accept Leaping Shot for archers. When using it, too often my archers leap off a ledge, or simply so far out of the fight that they are no longer a part of the battle. Also, I never realized Spike Trap could be so useful for Varric. I'll be sure and enable it next time. Thanks again!

  • @AKisHerceg

    Thanks! :) Yes, as I wrote it in the video, Leaping Shot is not that effective in the hands of the AI, I mainly want to use it for them as defense, since the upgrade will instantly removes the cooldown on Stealth and puts them into it on activation. Plus Varric can really destroy stuff with Leping Shot and his Artficer focus power, even if you leave it up to the AI. :)

    So I just discovered you yesterday with your Origins cun vd dex rogue video, and then I see you have tons of other really awesome videos! Definitely subbing to you! So anyway some thoughts. I found Evade to be decently useful to keep early game Cole alive. Best is simply to switch him to a bow, but if I keep him with daggers I do give him evade. I've personally seen him evade away from mines and a bear's slam attack, however he may have also evaded into mines or into enemies that I simply haven't seen. I usually remove it from his bar once I get higher tier weapons and armor and more useful abilities though. However I agree in regards to Combat Roll. The AI can't use it offensively and when I gave it to Bull for survivability he just rolled everywhere lol. Next machinegun Sera is awesome! I've tend to keep her with a bow simply because of this. Tried dagger once or twice but thought it didn't really outperform bow. However your demonstration of how quickly she shredded Cory was certainly impressive. Makes me wanna give that another go. Also the templar combo with two handed weapons is insane. One time I used the combo against two Hakkonite bruisers with full guard, and it killed them instantly. My jaw dropped. I haven't gotten much luck getting Cass to proc the combo though, but maybe I didn't set her up well because I've seen her pulling it off several times in your videos. So definitely will be trying your tips, thanks! And finally, lots of really nice information on mage builds. I for one didn't know that shocked enemies took more damage. And your KE build looks really good. I've done KE twice but always with a staff instead of Blade of Tidarion even though I know it's better. You really wiped the floor with those Pride demons though. Guess I have to go and try Blade of Tidarion KE now. So all in all, awesome vid!

    I desperately needed this video. You have no idea. I have no clue what I am doing when it comes to AI. But I hate having to worry so much because my team mates keep dying on me especially since I prefer to only play as the inquisitor. The only times I step in are because certain mages or archers are too close to enemies in combat or in direct line of fire and get hurt so I have to physically move them out of the way or sometimes force them to drink a potion before they die. So not having to worry so much about it would make my gaming experience so much more fun because I hate switching back and forth. If I am the Inquisitor and the main character then I should play as them not their team members.

  • @flabbergasted6231

    @flabbergasted6231

    Mind you the only character I managed to make OP without controlling on my first play through and I never had to worry about was Blackwall. It was by complete accident. Lol. He is freaking amazing. I really want to bring along Blackwall, Varric and Dorian as my main team once I get all of them gathered up. But until then my team will be Cassandra, Solas and Varric. I am going to not recruit Sera and Vivien on this go around because their characters piss me off too much. I will recruit Iron bull but probably only use him when fighting dragons. I probably will recruit Cole because Cole is my baby boi but I likely won't take him along unless there are specific quests that I would be interested to hear his input. But my problem was Varric and Dorian. Because they always die so easily and never have enough guard or armor either. So I wanted a better Ai setup since like I said I have no clue when it comes to that stuff. I typically wing it and mess up horribly lol. I've only done one playthrough of the game to the end and beaten it. So there is still a lot I don't know about. I like Solas but I prefer Dorian's company over his. And I prefer Varric over the other rogues for his personality too and his quests since his red lyrium quests are found all over I'd like to have him at all times. Black wall is amazing so I will always have him around. My inquisitor I am thinking of being a support Knight enchanter. So barriers, healing and revival with the knight enchanter blade and maybe throw in two main elemental attacks one Ice and one fire.

    @@AKisHerceg Actually I have a question - in another video you rated Cass as terrible in damage department. How's that compared to her 2h build shown here? Also would you say that her 2h build should be played with normal tank (Blackwall) in a party, or would it be enough if she's the only melee character in a group?

  • @AKisHerceg

    @AKisHerceg

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@hemaka482 Cass is terrible and always will be terrible when it comes to single-target damage(which is what the "Damager" category measures). That is just the way Templars are. This build shown here(the Divine Avenger, which I also made a video about) is a Crowd Control character way more than a damager. :) The huge crowd damage she can do depends completely on whether or not she can stun the targets. Most enemies above Elite rank are difficult to stun, so really she is great at eliminating the "trash" with her combo. Against bosses or enemies immune to stun, she can just use her Two-Handed skills or her W&S skills, which do not do that much damage(on their own), if you compare them to the rogues in the damager category. So if you use Cass, then you don't need a CC mage. That is why I switched Solas in the Trespasser to Cass in my Trilogy Build, The Master Archer. She was just as effective as Solas would have. Yes, I definitely recommend Blackwall with Cass. Cass is no tank with that build, so you will need Blackwall. :)

    @@AKisHerceg Thank you. One more question on another topic if you don't mind - when you're crafting staves for your mages, do you have preffered element, one that works better than the others? I assume there's no point crafting for example fire staff if you're mainly using fire magic because of immunities. But what to take into consideration choosing between the other two elements? Or it just doesn't matter at all?

  • @AKisHerceg

    @AKisHerceg

    3 жыл бұрын

    To me it does matter, since I love using Winter's Grasp with the 1000% damage upgrade on Chilled targets. Energy Barrage is excellent for applying Chill on enemies(and the projectiles will use the base element of your staff, in this case cold) and you can immediately follow it up with Winter's Grasp on the target for massive damage. This is why I prefer using Cold as my base material. :)

    This video is really really great, but as someone who is a bit dense when it comes to setting up video game tactics, boy do I wish DAI had presets like the first two games did. They were really helpful in getting new players (or longtime players who are bad at tactics like me) started. Maybe they'll bring them back in DA4.

    Glad to hear it! :) Charging Bull is viable even on Nightmare, but you have to bring a ranged crew with your warrior. Let's say 2 mages and 1 archer. It is a good thing to bring more mages on Nightmare with Trials, since they can keep casting Barrier and archers are one of the most consistent class when it comes to damage.

    Used the time stamps from another commenter and made a transcription 5:35 Skills Flank Attack: Good- Auto targets and puts teammates behind enemies backs to provide bonus damage and some protection. Skirmisher upgrade: puts them into stealth which can increase survivability and damage output Deathblow: Good- Massive cut on wounded enemies with small aoe knockdown effect. Great Detonator for combos. Thrill of victory : Double damage Long-shot: Good to keep archer far away from the battle Eagle eye: more damage no friendly fire worries Full Draw: good for archer who wants to keep distance for massive damage. Both upgrades good. Shot from the shadows: Not good for AI, but with Shot From the shadows upgrade it can keep team members into semi-permanent stealth Explosive Shot: Great at beginning combined with poisoned weapons to create fire/poison explosion which goes through armor. Not good for Friendly Fire playthroughs. Chain reaction upgrade for more damage. Poisoned Weapons- good because all they have to do is activate it. Use healing upgrade for survivability Throwing blades-really great even though it's not perfect with the AI, you should definitely get this. Precision targeting increases single target dps Toxic Cloud- useful because it just requires being surrounded by enemies, lost in the mist can protect allies Stealth- obvious- clinging shadows to stay hidden as long as possible shadow strike- effective, especially with upgrade for ranged enemies Hidden blades- good because it only requires a target, both upgrades good Mark of death- good for additional damage, not anywhere near as good as it would be in players hands. Lasting mark, AI cant reliably detonate. Artificer is mainly good for its passives not it active skills. Elemental mines is very buggy and fallback plan has AI problems. Spike trap is decent just to protect the artificer if enemy gets too close. Flask of Frost- for use by dual dagger AI when surrounded by enemies and needing resistance. Flask of fire- good if you have fast hitting abilities like throwing blades or deathblow, use upgrade that removes cooldowns Flask of lightning-Best skill for Archer Tempest by far Shield wall- essential for tank, AI handles it very well Shield bash- has problems with AI, but is generally a good supplement for the team to get rid of enemy guard or detonate combos Payback strike- is great to get AI out of stun and give them a small aoe knockdown. Choose upgrades based on wanting more damage or more aggro. Mighty blow- is great for non friendly fire enabled playthroughs. AOE knockdown is good. Pommel Strike- AI has problems, but it is still generally good with high damage and stun. Grappling chain- good for hostile mages and ranged enemies. Pick the stun upgrade to take them out of the fight for a few seconds. Horn of valor- good buff skill war cry- Must have for tanks, upgrades are for more aggro or more armor. Challenge- great skill early for aggro Charging bull- not great with friendly fire on Livid- great damage reduction and guard. Bodyguard is essential for squishy teams Walking fortress- good for obvious reasons Devour- Only reaver skill AI can reliably use well. Use with rub some dirt in it and it acts like a healing potion Spell purge- good, AI can sometimes even do combos with it. Blessed blades- for support warrior ai for extra damage wrath of heaven- is great, but careful with friendly fire on Barrier- essential. Elegant dense upgrade better early on, energetic defense is better once ai has items with cooldown reduction revival- Ai uses it well, great for support dispel- great for mages, demons and fade rifts and some combos static cage- great for crowd control vs small enemies and some lightning damage lightning bolt- applies “shocked” on targets which increases vulnerability to every type of elements. Great for main character if using elemental attacks Energy barrage- with energy bombardment is great to lower resistances and apply status effects flashfire- great for applying panic with burning. Fire mine- ai places them in front of itself well with high damage on enemies, careful with FF on Winters grasp- great single target with freeze effect which can be detonated with a warrior. One of the best offensive mage skills. Aoe upgrade for ai ice mine- crowd control, great for ai support mage spirit blade- can work with AI if AI has good equipment fade cloak- invulnerability is always good for AI, decloaking blast can replenish barrier by blasting into enemy after effect is over horror- great for panic with upgrade to completely paralyze enemies. Best necro skill walking bomb great for non FF veilstrike- great CC, upgrade gives ai unlimited mana essentially stonefist- good for knock down or get rid of enemies in mellee range, with FF both upgrades work, with FF unblockable force. Pull of the abyss- GREAT cc, combine with veilstrike it mops floor with enemies, dangerous with FF on.

    I really appreciate your AI video’s, they helped me so much. I am replaying the game now on Nightmare with even ground, enhanced enemy abilities and stronger bears. So I have a request. Can you also do a video about AI for level 5-10 characters? Another idea is a video about focus abilities. I barely use them at all, except for the Knight Enchanters healing. Another thing to note about the AI is that it does use not mapped skills, but not a lot. A tip for mages and archers is to set them to follow themselves.

    Gad to hear it! :) I have a video up about a low level setup for both AI and controlled characters. I think it is called "The first 10 ability you need for Nightmare". The AI is very potent with them, and I demonstrate this in the video by not using a single healing potions. Personally, I find the focus skills to be completely broken. I do not like them at all. They are not balanced, so I never really use them. Other than Mark of the Rift of course. Thousand Cuts - Dozens of cuts on a single target or multiple enemies. Automatic boss killer. Hail of Arrows - Only works with archery and it is probably the most overpowered skill in the game if coupled with Leaping Shot. You can kill a high dragon in 3 sec. Cloak of Shadows - Useless skill, which puts your party into stealth for a few seconds. Counterstrike - Generally useless. Especially because Champions have amazing survivability. Rampage - Just a little extra kick for a Dragon Raging Reaver. Not really worth the one skill point it requires. Rally - You can put this on Cassandra so your party would get full guard occasionally. Haste - Slow motion for a few seconds... I find it useless. Firestorm - Lots of fireballs bombard the targeted area. Sadly, they don't deal much damage, so I never use it. So yeah, I am definitely not a fan of them...

When you know what you’re doing I’d say they handled the open world and freedom very well (including who you talk to, the inquisitor personality). An awesome aspect are some unique missions. My tempest dual wield assasin is OP at level 14. Also thanks to your AI builds I passed my favorite part of the game: Heidrun taigh pretty easily. My allies handled themselves really well on nightmare with first 2 trials on. I only had to fade step Vivienne to safety, and sometimes Varric. I love the fact it’s a battle where you have to focus on the leaders. Usually a battle that ends with the leader gone is usually easiest by taking out all others and then the leader. It’s no different from a ‘defeat everyone’ mission. The Heidrun battle is was executed really well. About Varric I’d love to ask why you don’t have the AI use elemental mines? I love that one, or is it simply better to use it manually (which I don’t prefer).

    I have spent many hours perusing all your videos from 2020 to 2022. I am just beginning this game playing on Normal and decided to try a 2 handed Warrior. While I greatly appreciate all the great advice in your videos, there are so many so spread out over 2 years I'm having difficulty picking abilities for my party, which order to pick them and whether or not to enable, favorite disable etc. I literally have so many tabs open I am thoroughly confused, there are so many differing ideas etc. I was just going to start on Normal with a Tank (I guess Blackwall when I get to him), an Archer (Varric) , a mage (i dunno-Vivienne maybe?) and myself as a 2 handed Warrior damager. I of course can experiment myself and restart over and over, but I really don't like to do that until I at least play the game for a while. Can you recommend a video or guide that can help build these characters by level and talk about favoriting/enabling etc? You have so much info spread out I would just like a simple starting party type video with skills and tactics suggested. (Tank, Melee Damager, Ranged support/Damage) I'm thinking I would just enable auto level for companions and see how it goes...Honestly I'm older and don't have a tone of time to experiment, nor the will to do so. I just want to get started and be somewhat effective.

    So you want to build decent party AI from scratch, am I correct? Well, first there is my "The first 10 ability you need when you start Nightmare difficulty". There, I show how to progress at the beginning of the game(on Nightmare, so I'm confident you will be able to use it for Normal) with a party, then I demonstrate that party against enemies. I control the tank. This video can help you reach Skyhold. After that you can pick a Specialization for the party, and progress to my late game AI build videos. I recommend you watch my Compete AI guide video, since there you can see exactly which skills can be used by the AI, and I even show some of my favorite late game AI builds. My The Top 9 best AI builds for Dragon Age Inquisition video is basically the condensed version of this - only showing the (in my opinion) best AI builds for the team. My series of videos about the Pre-Skyhold builds are also excellent if you are looking for AI builds. Most of them can be used by the AI as well. :)

I guess when it is all taken as a group randomly picked out of the playlist it is a bit overwhelming of what to start with and which one to look at. That doesn't include the pre-skyhold videos that really threw me-it is apparent now that those might come after a good deal of time and maybe a playthrough or two. Great video! This is the best explanation I've seen of AI in Inquisition. I just discovered your channel, and your work is fantastic. Great to see some recent Dragon Age content while we all wait impatiently for Dreadwolf. One question: You said that marking ranged abilities like Longshot as favorites will encourage the AI to stay at range. Does this mean that favoriting an ability will cause the AI to actively place themselves in a position to use it, rather than just using it if they happen to find themselves in the right circumstances?

  • @AKisHerceg

    @AKisHerceg

    Жыл бұрын

    Thank you! :) It's a bit more basic than that from what I have experienced, at least with the latest patch. If you favor ranged abilities, they tend to stay at range(they don't run away farther, they just don't get any closer), but if you favor melee skills, they usually move closer to the target. This is probably because unlike us, the AI specifically targets enemies. They can't just use Payback Strike for example without a target as we can, otherwise, they would keep activating it during exploration, which would be... not good. With melee skills, they need to be in melee range so they can activate the ability(therefore they run up to the target). With ranged skills, they don't have to move closer, because the ability range is longer(therefore they can activate it where they are at that time). Same with basic attacks(you don't have to move closer to the target to shoot your arrows, but you do if you want to whack them with your sword). So unless they are specifically told to follow the main(or controlled) character(who is using melee) in the tactics menu, they will not charge at the enemies if they use ranged weapons. They usually stay where they are, unless their skill tells them that they have to move closer because they are out of range. And this of course never happens with Longshot, since that skill has a very long range. Same with Full Draw. Hence, they will indeed stay at range when they use an ability like Longshot. But nope, the AI is not clever enough to "know" that they have to move farther to increase the effectiveness of their skill. I'm sure that was the idea of the devs, though... maybe the AI will be smart enough for this in Dreadwolf.

    Hello! First of all, thank you for your amazing work! I have a couple of questions about Varric's skills :) I am curious how he's generating guard (I think it is add-on to the armor?) and what kind of passives are you used in this video? Only from Archer and Artificier trees? I checked a lot of videos concerning Varric's build for AI on YT... Unfortunately nothing works good so far with my Varric (I want my virtual dwarf friend with Bianca, not daggers)... What is the most important to develop? Chance to crit? Crit bonus? Dexterity? Other? Throwing blades and elemental mines are working with Varric's AI or are useless?

  • @AKisHerceg

    @AKisHerceg

    2 жыл бұрын

    Well, building Varric is actually not as hard as it seems. I prefer him with Biance as well by the way. Varric is an amazing support, damage or even cc character, but you have to pick his skills carefully otherwise he can prioritize the wrong ones. I prefer him in a support role(while he also deals some damage and provides some cc - so kind of an all over the pace AI build), because with him, my team literally never dies. He uses Toxic Cloud so often, with the Lost in the Mist upgrade, that my team is always well supplied from Elusives. But it really depends on what you have in mind for him. One thing that is vital and more important than anything is the critical chance. Varric as an Artificer, receives cooldown bonus from each critical hits he or the team makes(with the passive skill Opportunity Knocks), so this way he can spam skills. The skills I prefer to use on him(because he kicks so much ass with them) are these: Spike Trap - with the upgrade that flung enemies into the air. Great for defense, it has a nice aoe damage and enemies will be knocked down around Varric. He can literally spam this skill, so almost no one can touch him. Toxic Cloud - with the Lost in the Mist upgrade as I mentioned, my team is almost untouchable with him supporting us. Poisoned Weapons - Leeching Poison. This is great because this way even if he takes some damage, he can heal even with all trials on. Early on Exploding Arrow is great for him with Longshot and Poisoned Weapons. I have a video about all companions best(in my opinion) AI builds, so you might want to check that one out. The other reason why I prefer him as support over anything else, is because he has some of the best passive support skills. His specialization tree gives bonus to damage, status effect duration, and critical chance for the whole party! If you are an Artificer yourself, then your cooldown reduction will also receive his passive bonus. Also here are some must have passives for him other than his Artificer passives: Pincushion, Looked Like it Hurt, Strafing Shot, Cheap Shot, Easy to Miss. Elemental Mines are a mixed bag... sometimes they work great, sometimes they don't work at all. I prefer not to use them with Varric, because the AI keeps switching it to the wrong upgrade. However, you can use Caltrops with the Immobilizing upgrade for extra defense for the dwarf. :) Oh and yes, he has Guard on Hit masterwork on his armor. But you can also give the team guard by making your warrior use Horn of Valor with the Guard bonus upgrade. This way Varric can have something else instead of guard on hit.

  • @AKisHerceg

    Жыл бұрын

    I have no idea about that. Shield Wall works great for me, my AI warriors even use it better than I do. :) However, if you worry about flanking damage, just get the Bear Mauls the Wolves passive. With this, you will turn every flanking damage from melee range(yes, ranged attacks too if they are close) into one point. As in 1 damage. Which won't even make a dent on your team's Guard.

    Thanks! :) I always allow all of them, across the board, to have full access to their entire mana pool. I like it when for example mages perform a combo themselves, with Ice Mine and Winter's Grasp(first they summon Ice Mine, then they use Winter's Grasp on the frozen target for massive damage). They need to be able to access all of their reserves and they can't just wait around for their regeneration, because they only have a limited amount time(as long as the Chill effect lasts) to perform the combo. Same with the Wrath of Heaven + Spell Purge combo, or Pommel Strike + Mighty blow etc.

  • @AKisHerceg

    Attack. Attack gives a flat damage bonus to everything. In my opinion AP is one of the most useless thing in the game, since enemies do not have that much armor(for example the Highland Ravager has 72, which means that if you go with 70+% AP you would remove 50 armor) which is laughable when you can deal thousands of damage with Leaping Shot and Throwing Blades. Plus the passive Cheap Shot, which is required for Throwing Blades gives Sunder after every critical hit, which is basically armor penetration. So go with Attack. Always. Unless you are doing a Crit chance + Crit dmg build. Then go with those, but never AP for an Artificer(or any rogue really). :)

    Whitish Leopard Very good belt. Extremely useful for all classes, if you have some form of protection on top of your health, like huge guard or barrier. With this belt the dps of certain weapons can change radically: the best examples are the maul class weapons, that are extremely slow, yet with the urgency belt, they have similar speed with great swords while having much better damage. The belt also increases the speed of your abilities, like Throwing Blades, so this means you will throw them faster. It also works well on Knight Enchanters. So as I said, it is a pretty amazing belt. :)

Wall of ice is actually amazing when you don't have iron bull breaking it constantly. It blocks archers, despair demon beams and arcane horror barrages, splits up enemies, singles one out for easy killing. Also it's great for providing cover to tamper with rifts when the wraiths won't stop poking you. Ring of ice is also a very fun and buggy upgrade. When it works properly its cc for cc immune enemies. When it bugs it launches enemies very high and they die of fall damage lol. Usually the big ones. It launched my first ogre in the deep roads off the cliff. The barrier upgrade that makes it stay at full strength for five seconds applies to all your barrier affects from you. Mind blast, transmute dispel, fade shield, guardian spirit. Mana surge affects allies and grants them an ability for no cost. Fade step for damaging aoe just feels amazing to use and it's free. Pair it with flashpoint for more fun. Or go energizing step with consuming fire immolate and clean burn for endless explosions. Desperation revival feels like a true necromancer.

I stack frozen detonators a lot so ice and spirit damage are plentiful and I got winters ruin just to top off my barrier and also fade step for damage upgrade since my mana isn't an issue either. Killing is a very effective form of crowd control lol. The teeniest bit of barrier from mind blast or any source grants a free spell when it expires and I try to hold my ground with my melee units so I can essentially stun lock them and use mid blast to detonate and get my barrier back. I also use the five second barrier upgrade because it makes all my barrier last five seconds before they start to decay but that makes me wonder if the cooldown reduction morph also affects barriers gained by mind blast or other sources. So like the barrier spells is on CD but mind blast hits one target, I gain 10% barrier, it expires. Does my barrier spell CD reduce by 4? If so that'd be even better for my permafrost mage. I really like the other barrier upgrade though because it makes staying alive easier and building a fresh barrier easier. Maybe I'll get the andrastes amulet since I'm tanky anyway. Well, for must-have passives, the Archery passive Pincushion is a must for every rogue, who wants to deal great damage. Same with the Looked like it Hurt Sabotage passive. All of the passives from the Dual Dagger and Tempest tree are pretty much mandatory too. This AI build is really good for late game. Before Skyhold, this is the progression for Sera: Flank Attack(+ upgrade), Poisoned Weapons(+upgrade), then you get Pincushion and Stealth. If you have enough points, you can get Deathblow. After Skyhold: Flank Attack(+upgrade), Pincushion, Looked Like it Hurt, Lightning Flask, Poisoned Weapons(+upgrade), Deathblow, Stealth. Easy to Miss is optional, but it is definitely helpful if you want your rogue to be less visible when it comes to the Threat table. :)

Of course this also depends on what type of class I'm going with. :) You mean which one I like the most? Or which ones are the most viable? Well, if I would have to rank the specializations from my personal favorite to my least favorite then it would be(on a scale of 10 to 1): Artificer(10) Why? The Artificer is just a ton of fun because of the lowered cooldown time and the Champion is straight up indestructible, plus it has high damage with To the Death. The Necro has terrible survivability and the Templar has terrible single target damage.

    @@zion5637 That portion of the game is incredibly basic. Follow themselves basically means "stay at range". Following the controlled character("stay close") makes sure that they will be close enough to me. For example mages can cast Barrier and they will cover the whole group this way usually, unlike when they follow themselves - they tend to either only cover themselves with it or the team only. This actually increases the survivability of the archer rogues and mages in the team as well, since they will be covered with Barrier. Staying in range does not mean much since ranged enemies can still destroy your archer. In my experience, with proper aggro management and Barrier they will more likely to survive this way. :)

    It takes most of the fun out of the game. :) No doubt it is more challenging, but it also eliminates half of the spells and abilities in the game, because they do more harm than good. This is something I always disliked about Dragon Age's friendly fire system: it's not equal. For example, if you use Frost Mine on Nightmare with friendly fire on a group of enemies, your warriors and rogues not only will be frozen as well, they will be frozen much longer than the enemies! At least 3 times longer. This is of course because the way difficulty works in all DA games, is that the status effect durations will be decreased on enemies and increased on you. So why would you even try using most of these skills when all they do is basically destroy your own party? With friendly fire, pretty much the only skills you can put confidently on your AI(with a very few exception) are single target spells.

The Griffon Mail was surprisingly good for my Vampiric AI team though, so you can also think about crafting that. Warrior armors: Superior/Refined Battlemaster armor/mail is great for damager or tanking purposes, Griffon Armor is great for tanks and for damage as well thanks to the metal slot. For raw damage Reavers, the Prowler armor also works if you craft it from Silverite. @@shikimorisbf Are you sure he is not with you? Did you check on him in the Library in Skyhold? I think if you haven't talked to him after the battle of Haven, you can't use him yet in the selection, so you have to go up to the library and check if he is there. He should be standing in front of the bookshelf which has a little chair next to it. If you really don't have him, then this has to be a bug. He will join you after you finish the mission with the Mages where he actually goes with you or joins you during the Battle of Haven(if you went for the Templars). The only option to not have him is to kick him out.

    Livid has not been removed. There was a skill called "Unbowed", which was transformed into Livid. Livid become much better. I understand that I should only develop passive archery under dexterity and disable active ones? Can you explain that to me? :) Regards!

  • @AKisHerceg

    Yes, you need the passives from the Archery tree, but those 4 skills are the only active ones you need. :) With Fire Flask and Throwing Blades, she is a devastating damager. With Lightning Flask and basic attacks, she is also a devastating damager! :) So basically she just switches between throwing Throwing Blades without stamina or cooldown after using Flask of Fire and using auto-attack(strengthened by Poisoned Weapons) with her Lightning Flask skill.

Is it good idea to put there Assassin's Cloak of Shadows (but disabled it and using it when I play as Cole is better option, yes?). In some builds I don't use up all skill points (between 29 and 32 depends on character at level 27), so when I can spend them? Passives from other trees?

    @@jackaqab6700 Yes, I usually consider focus skills broken so I almost never pick them up. Well, you have Cass already, so the Templar in your team is covered(so unless you are role-playing as a Templar) I would recommend the Reaver! I prefer Reaver more than the Templar, since the game has faster pace and you see a lot more damage. Templar is very good for some impressive aoe damage, but Cass can handle that. Reaver is one of the best for single target damage out of all warriors. Great boss killer too! :)

    @@santinoromaya4 I love Cass, but when it comes to tanking, nothing beats Blackwall. Cass is a decent tank, but Blackwall and Vivienne are both better when it comes to tanking. With Cassandra however, you also get nice passive bonuses which you can't get from Vivienne and you have a great aoe damager in your party as well, which is not something Blackwall is capable of. :)

    As someone who relied on micro and tactical cam in Origins and microed as much as possible in DAII, Inquisition has been a tough transition for me. Here's my biggest question regarding the AI - is the skill selection limited to the options on the quickbar (which seems to be what I'm seeing)? Or can it pull from skills that are not on the quickbar, allowing you to leave what's useful for the AI "running in the background" while the quickbar is reserved for manually-triggered skills? I will also note that one thing to watch out for with Leaping Shot on AI is that it does not seem to check for whether the character is standing on the edge of a cliff.

  • @AKisHerceg

    @AKisHerceg

    Жыл бұрын

    The quickbar is irrelevant when it comes to the AI in my experience. The only thing it checks is weather or not it's allowed to use the skill or not and how often it should use it - all of this is set up in the tactical menu.

    @@AKisHerceg - I wonder if it's different on PC than console. I've noted that some skills (Immolate, Winter's Grasp, and Energy Barrage being pretty important ones) set to "enabled" or "preferred" get spammed if added to the quickbar, but even if set to "preferred" they don't get used once taken off the quickbar.

  • @SeventhheavenDK

    @@selachianseas999. In my experience, the AI only uses the abilities that are in the quickbar slots, I even tested it. For instance, even enabled Vivianne never used abilities like Blizzard until I placed them in the quickbar slots. It makes sense, as your selected character can only use the abilities in the quickbar.
