I actually tried this build in my first playthrough of the game and I didn't think it would be that good, but the build has the perfect balance of absolute defense and monster dps.

Another great build Kinetic, your easily the best DA:I resource on youtube. My only criticism would be to swap out Payback strike for Shield Wall. Now we got this great new mechanic, Guard that acts as a surrogate HP bar. I'd make more use of it particularly as Reaver. So you always stay low HP whilst having high Guard at all times possible. What can I say Reaver has always been my favourite Warrior spec in DA games, great work.

Thank God this build works, been looking for a way to put bull in my team but I'm a 2h reaver. Two reavers sounds pretty cool, especially if one is s&s and the other 2h.

Definitely one of the more interesting builds I've seen. Keep up the great vids mate! I changed my warcry with challenge however, with the upgrade you can have indefinite stamina regen. Trying to see if its fun to play with battlemaster, wep n shield talents coupled with reaver.

Shield bash is really really good against the enemies with the tower shields.

Payback is like you said highly Situational... (People saying its better then SB are crazy if you're having to choose between the 2 for some reason.) They are actually meant to compliment each other as in one is on Demand the other is Reactive. (using payback outside reactive; unless you don't have SB is underpowered and a waste; I mean in a more mature build; of coarse some builds or starting game out will have no choice.) SB is on demand; higher dps (baked in boon against guard), CC and gap closer. Again even stronger against guard. I think people often also miss the whole "tauntED" part of payback also. Yet another requirement for the skill to even work its full effect. Outside those situations its better spending the point in Charge or something. Note charge in builds outside Champion (since you can eat everything in the face.) can double as an evasive ability not just rushing in or Def/CC. If you have the button real estate you should have both too. When payback is usable SB followed by charge give you tons of control to keep everything down.

I did this to Iron Bull too. Even before I watched this. It's awesome.

I am playing. S/S reaver as well. I still run Blackwall as a tank while I spam RoP and Dragons Rage until I need Devour. Bull rush is usually used as a gap closer for me, and Shield Bash is just delicious! Cassandra is my 2hand Templar, and I run with Viv or Sol as my mages.

This build is so close to being a full on tank. Really just a hybrid DPS/Tank, similar to the Sword and Shield Templar. For more tankability, start by replacing Shield Wall instead of Charging Bull.

i messed with the idea to see if dragon rage took guard first but found it didn't, so i messed around by doing the tank abilities along with the reaver ones and now i hurt myself with dragon rage but control it with having full guard. something to think about.

carson jones It is impossible to take all tank skills. There are too many to do so. Even if you waste points doing so, you can only put either 7 or 8 active abitities (depending on if it's IB or your main) on your bar.

+KineticGTR This and your assassin build are some of my favorite play styles in DAI. Esspecially since I am sort of reaver in real life.

I realy liked Iron Bull Sword and Shield, + Blackwall 2H, I liked more than Blackwall Sword and Shield + Iron Bull 2H. Thx for the build, your channel is amazing :D

The combination of Pull of the Abyss and Dragon Rage is absolutely insane.

My Rift mage build in general seems to work really well with a good Reaver. Lighting Cage or PotA + Ring of Pain and Dragon Rage is amazing!

There's much less point to running a lightning necromancer... Fire gives you the panic to increase your damage and do AOE dps which is what the necromancer specializes in too. His pyro necro is pretty much the perfect thing to pair with necro. If you were to run lightning I would run the left side of the lightning tree and the side of the necromancer that gives you the "bomb" ability to explode the target for x damage.

Slininstien Oh alright. Thanks for the advice!! The reason was I'm torn between KE and Necro, but veering more towards the latter because KE can feel a bit cheap. Thing is, I love Dorian and wouldn't want to make him obsolete of we both use the pyro necro specs!

Hmm looks like a really fun build to play but I'm struggling on weather I want to be a reaver warrior, a dual dagger assassin or a Pyromancer, any suggestions? (Keep in mind I'm not filthy casual so I am hesitant to becoming a rogue just due to stealthy-ness)

I got an idea for you once you eventually exhaust all weapon/spec combos: Role-play classes / looks For example, I'm doing a Templar Mage-Hunter playthrough. I've got Silverite Templar Armor (looks awesome on rogues) with Guard-On Hit enhancements, with the Tempest Spec. Imagine the Tempest flasks are Lyrium potions, and BOOM you're a Templar. It feels really cool, almost like a DW Warrior.

Lunge and Slash is my fav SnB ability and it hurt not seeing it used but Charging Bull was why but it still hurt

Basically, sell any valuables that are not monster parts or items with descriptions that sounds like quests. So any jewelry, and other similar trinkets.

You already got some great advise there, no need for a video as sadly there is no storage. An issue that will no doubt be addressed with mods in the future, soon hopefully. Although if your a console peasant and not on PC then it's tough luck I'm afraid. What can I say, Bioware SERIOUSLY dropped the ball on this one. Why do I get this gut feeling that EA are gonna sneak it in with paid DLC. I wouldn't put it past them.

Cassandra and Vivienne are good at supporting my Human Sword and Shield Reaver. Cassandra’s focus ability plus her dispelling of barriers makes it easy for my Reaver to kill things faster. And Vivienne I’ve dedicated to a Support mage with Revives and Barrier. Plus her focus skill revives us all. And hopefully my Reaver will do enough damage to fill all that focus up again. I’ve been struggling with AI dagger rogues like Cole so I’ve made all Rogues use Bows or Bianca.

Convenience for the videos creation is all. You can of course make your main character a Reaver, or just set it up like this for Iron Bull.

Did you know you can get all abilities in every skill tree in his specialization with Cole? I found the secret.

Doesn't going SnS sort of defeat the point of Dragon Rage? DR allows you to attack with the damage of a 2h weapon and the speed of a 1-hander. If you're gonna spam it, you might as well wield a greataxe or a maul to hit harder with it. My recommendation, if you're gonna build a SnS Reaver, is to either ignore DR entirely, or to use it exclusively (along with Devour) as a way to regulate your health and keep it at ~50%, while using Shield Bash, Lunge and Slash and Payback Strike to deal damage. Get Livid, Warcry, or some other guard-generating ability for added survivability and control over your HP, and you're golden. The shorter cooldowns and faster attack speed make SnS quite fun to play with, and you avoid the cheap feeling of pressing a single button over and over to deal all your damage with Dragon Rage.

Shield bash is good and Payback Strike if you got hit and use it payback strike got big AOE knocks down...

I don't really like using ring of pain with moderation. Dragoin rage costs health,not stamina,so you can do it undefinatly,and each hit restores a little bit of stamina,enough for you to devour and keep dragon ragiong,so there's little point to save your stamina. Ring of pain away,you'll be fine.

Can this build act as a main tank or do you need another S&S?

You could pull it off, but you would have to control it since the AI would probably get itself killed. I would also recommend looking up ninja flips s&s build as it's more up to date with the expanded skill upgrades from the trespasser dlc.

Chellsy Chellsyton Aveline was the perfect partner for BM Hawke. She could tank so that your AoE spells hit as many foes as possible, provided guaranteed staggers for your Hemorrhages to wipe the floor with them, and did everything except make Hawke breakfast and wash their clothes. That little kiss you get if you flirt with her during The Long Road is worth every second of not being able to romance her~

+OneButton Dash Not really, If paired with a barrier mage...yes. But you need to be aggressive with your guard since all of your abilities consume health. Infact that is how you survieve as a reaver, tear away at your enemies and leave them no quarter!

reason i can't play reaver is i heal myself and try to avoid low health like opposite to what reaver needs i have survival instinct even in this type of game, yea in online shooter i would just do as much as i can before i die and take crazy risks for fun but that's totally different, or at least i can't play reaver to the fullest

I really liked your build videos but I feel that the videos, not just this one, lack one curcial aspect: A gear choice segment. What gear do you, the builds designer, think compliments this best? What offensive stats work best in your opinion? What mastercrafts and runes do you chose? Is it necessary to swap gear around depending on what you fight? What defensive stats are necessary on what difficulty and how much do you invest in them? What abilities does the build need to look out for? And lastly mayhaps a link to a guide of yours where you can find the scematics and resources for these choices. Sounds like a lot, but with your experience in creating these videos i think you could get this done with in about 5 minutes.

Yes you can just do new game make your character, save then go to the main menu and go to load. Then you can switch characters.

Early game Reaver S&S is quite crap though,mid-tier to late is better

Josh Howson Nightmare is no joke, and I wouldn't start a game with it. My thing is waiting until I cant craft tier 3 items(you can get the schematics relatively early if you know where to look and how to get there), once I have a few I'll swap over from hard to Nightmare.

I managed to solo a dragon on nightmare using Cassandra (no points in Templar) with only Shield Wall, Charging Bull, War Cry and Lunge and Slash. So I would say yes it can

Long wait but maybe you'll see this. The answer is yes, a 2-handed Champion is what I'm rocking now and its incredibly strong, almost overpowered. Since the Champion has the means to make you outright invincible, and your taunts give you tons of guard on top of that, you're very hard to kill even as a 2-hander. Throw in some charging bull/mighty blow combos and by endgame I can crit for nearly 2000 damage. In fact, 2 handed champion is such a strong tank class that it makes sword-and-shield builds almost useless. You trade a TON of damage for a bunch of defensive passives that, obviously, cannot match outright invulnerability. Which is a shame since I love playing shield-tanks in RPG's but the Champion's abilities are so much better than anything the shield-ability tree offers...

Matt Curtis I played once as a two hand champion and didn't even need to bring a sword and shield warrior with me,just 2 mages and a rogue,after level 16 fights were even boring he had guard no matter what

plays 1h shield build does not block... I heard you took dual wielding from warriors, so I'll just use my shield as a second weapon lool

I specced Iron Bull out as a Reaver and holy sh*t!. Dragon rage is unbelievable!. 2 badass claws ripping away. Used with ring of pain and devour its just awesome. This changed the whole game for me :)

I disagree with Charging Bull for Iron Bull. The AI is terrible with using it. It should only be used in a build with a character you're going to play.

hero is a rift mage, AI Vivianne is a terrible melee mage. the AI can't do Vivianne justice as First Enchanter. the Ring of pain really complements the spin to win ability on Two-handed. Also Blackwall AI as a DPS two-hander doesn't seem to work because it wants to be a tank. I think you really need the deep reserve from battle master for this build. Also any fear passive seem to be counter active. Why would you want AI to flee your ring of pain? Only reason is for crowd control. Also the bear mauls wolves passive in Shield skill tree totally disables flanks from enemies which can have a chance to sunder your armor rating.

Lol ironbull don' it feel right with sword and shield bring out the massive ass kicking axe with bull rush mwhaha

+lkim100 You can dodge fatal blows performed by bosses, or you can use it while dodging a heart seeker attack by a rogue. Making easier to defend yourself.
