    We have a closed down coal mine about 45 minutes away from where I live. It is now a very popular mountain bike destination using the tops of the spoils as the trail system.

    Would it make more sense to continue in a circle emptying the bucket without stopping. Or would the operator get dissey

    Don't forget about the poor dragline Oiler. He's all greasy he's got crater on him. And he doesn't get paid enough money for his job. And he probably can't hear nothing cuz it's very loud in that machine. Earplugs is not enough to cut the noise down

    I have always wondered why the mines dump the overburden so damn high and I ever wonder if the land gets restored after the coal has been removed.

  • @parkfarm233

    @parkfarm233

    2 жыл бұрын

    They only dump high enough to remove the dirt from the top of coal. The deeper the coal, the more dirt and the higher the spoil. Reclamation is carried out after mining to return the area to a usable profile for whatever use is planned, farming, grazing, recreation etc.

  • @MegaDonns

    the dump height depends on the digging depth of the pit and the swell factor of the overburden. If it all adds up to too much of a pile they may have to pull back the spoil pile with a different machine to make dump room. For the Dragline. When a decision is made to buy a Dragline there are application engineers that do a lot of work on these factors so a machine can be custom designed for the application. This design will affect the machine size, boom length and boom angle, A half degree difference in boom angle can make a big difference on digging depth and dump height or dump setback. It can become complicated and time consuming process to get the right design in the right application. That is also why Draglines, even of the same model number, are seldom the same specifications.
