Watch Bram Stoker's Dracula Now: AAN.SonyPictures.com/BramStoke...
BRAM STOKER'S DRACULA / Gary Oldman and Winona Ryder star in the tortured tale of a charismatic vampire, based on the tale of the Prince of Darkness. / Gary Oldman, Winona Ryder and Anthony Hopkins star in director Francis Ford Coppola's visually stunning, passionately seductive version of the classic Dracula legend. In BRAM STOKER'S DRACULA, Coppola returns to the original source of the Dracula myth, and from that gothic romance, he creates a modern masterpiece. Gary Oldman's metamorphosis as Dracula who grows from old to young, from man to beast is nothing short of amazing. Winona Ryder brings equal intensity to the role of a young beauty who becomes the object of Dracula's devastating desire. Anthony Hopkins co-stars as the famed doctor who dares to believe in Dracula, and then dares to confront him. Opulent, dazzling and utterly irresistible, this is Dracula as you've never seen him. And once you've seen BRAM STOKER'S DRACULA, you'll never forget it.

I've just read the book recently and I actually loved how Dracula died. It wasn't quite like this, he was killed in his coffin from which he cannot move during daytime, just before dusk. A wicked grin across his face, because he knew he was moments away from being able to kill them all. Harker was the one to reach him and stake him just in time and the book describes how Dracula was elated to be freed for a brief moment before time caught upto him and his body turned to dust.

Here's something some don't realize: All effects were practical. Bram Stoker's Dracula contains 0 CGI. It was quite a mighty effort. Francis Ford Coppola ended up firing the original effects guy who insisted the things he wanted to do simply couldn't be done without it. He replaced him with his own son and, well, it did indeed work. I bet there is a hell of a lot more to that anecdote but it's all I know. What was unique about the film is they made Vlad the impaler and dracula the vampire the same guy. This is also why so many critized the movie as dracula wasnt very sympathetic in the novel. He was a monster that had no backstory. The movie changes dracula where hes vlad the impaler cursed as a vampire who acts like dracula from the book but still has the character traits vlad had. Which makes him sympathetic to the audience. They took the real life man the fictional vampire was based on and merged the two where they are the same guy which is something rare.

This is the Dracula movie that almost did it right and yet missed the mark so hard. I don't care how many times I have to say it, but I have had enough of the lonely, heartbroken, lovesick, woe-is-me Dracula. The Dracula that I met in the novel was a cold-blooded monster that didn't have a single sympathetic bone in his body. For me he came off as a man longing for the good old days when everyone waged war and slaughtered one another by the thousands year after year after year. A man seeking to exploit the abandonment of old superstitions in Victorian England by setting himself up and establishing a power base where he could create a host of new vampires and maybe take over the greatest empire in history. Keanu Reeves was a terrible miscast for the role of Harker, I would have chosen someone who could not only act, but speak with an English accent. Kenneth Branagh or Colin Firth come to mind. The rest of the cast, however, was excellent. Gary Oldman, Anthony Hopkins, Winona Ryder, Sadie Frost, Cary Elwes, Tom Waits, Richard Grant and Billy Howard were all good to perfect choices. If the love story was gone this script would have been near prefect.

@@mitchellannis-brown2487 Obviously the OP means in the movie. IN THE MOVIE, she is intended to be Elisabeth reincarnated. IN THE MOVIE, Dracula could only be killed by his true love, which a woman who happens to look like his true love would not qualify as.

If I were Jonathan, I would split up to Mina in this precise moment. She married him but betrayed him to love a monster, and in the end she seems to cheer for him (presumably infected by his blood). I think the end is left to people's interpretations, as we don't understand how Dracula joins Elisabeta in heaven as Mina is her 1800s incarnation, and we don't know if Mina stays with Jonathan at the end after all she has done against him.

I believe BSD would have gotten more Oscar recognition had Depp been involved with the movie!! Possibly gotten Oldman an Oscar nod!!!
