I'll be darned. I thought Dracula was 100% studio shot, but there's no question that shot is Vasquez Rocks. Thank you!
Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey was shot there too!

NEAR THOSE ROCKS IS WHERE LORDS KEANU REEVES AND ALEX WINTER GAVE THE HORROR ICON KNOWN AS THE GRIMM REAPER...THE TIGHEST REAR ADMIRAL OF ALL TIME!
That is so cool!! I always assumed it was a back drop on a soundstage. It's cool that fans of that movie have a legit place they can visit.
I have seen those rock formations in Star Trek and I have always been fascinated with them. One day I will go to the top
The opening shoots from Werewolf of London (1935) was shot at the Rocks, too.

This version of Dracula is my favorite. I must have watched it a hundred times and own a digital copy of it. This was fun, thank you

The movie was filmed 90 years ago, yet it still looks more believable than the CGI used today.

That sounds about boomer. Uh, I mean, now let’s hear what the more open-minded and non-back in my day crowd (who don’t tirelessly complain about the changing times and modernism in general) has to say in regards to this? Nay? K. Then I should just add: oh please

unreal isn't it. TECHNICALLY 91 (1931 was the year it was released, not filmed (1930) its wild
That climb was scary! I was getting vertigo just watching the screen!
Vasquez Rocks are visually stunning, ground level, and from on high. I enjoy how you take pains to find and simulate the same camera angles from the movies, and especially incorporating the mat-painting of Borgo Pass from Dracula. Those extras make your vlogs outstanding and anticipated. Besides countless westerns, the rocks also served as the Planet Mongo in the 1930's Flash Gordon serials.
Our intrepid host falling off the Vasquez Rock: Eeeeeeoooooowooooooaaaah! Bela Lugosi's ghost: Listen to him, child of the night, what music he makes!
I love seeing you do these Universal Monsters filming locations. Keep 'em coming!
I found this in the search and yet again grimmlifecollective you don't disappoint, I first watched the Bela Lugosi version of Dracula in the 1970s when I was 4 years old, even to this day its so vivid. I came downstairs as a small child as I couldn't sleep, my father was watching this old black and white film and so I sat on my dads lap and started staring at the tv screen, I remember my mother saying that this would scare me and my father answering if it does he will go back to bed. I sat there through the whole movie not moving, just captivated by this figure from the shadows with his flowing cloak and hypnotizing voice. From that day on I was captivated by the horror genre, I was a huge hammer horror fan growing up being from the UK but I have always remembered this movie that started it all. Thanks for walking me down the road of a happy memory from my childhood, its been a pleasure to watch....
Nobody working harder than you in this industry. It’s very much appreciated
That Dracula with Bela Lugosi is my favorite of all the Dracula movies. And I have seen them all I believe in my 76 years on this earth.
I've been to Vasquez rocks but I never climbed. You got a lot of guts Michael. But anyway that was so cool seeing where they filmed 1931 Dracula. My very first horror movie when I was 5 years old and still my ultimate favorite. Thank you thank you for finding the location and sharing it with everybody
Thank you. I didn't realize this was the opening scene of Dracula. Until today, I only saw the matte mountains. Awesome view from the top! Thanks for taking us along.
You my friend, have BALLS OF STEEL !! How you were able to capture the downward view as you stood on the top of Vasquez Rock literally gave me vertigo.....and I'm sitting comfortably in bed! Thank you for this AMAZING video!!!
The Werewolf of London scene where Dr. Yogami attacked Dr. Glendon was filmed at that same location. Thanks for the tour.
Greet video! Just be careful Michael climbing the rocks and beware of baby rattlesnakes. It is not quite time yet- but the little monsters come out in the spring. I am from So CA so I know.
Beware of D’rockula! 🧛🏻♂️
love those rocks, you can see where each one of the earth's plates pushed over the top of the one next to it sliding the other back under itself........ the force that must have taken to do that, is just phenomenal......... in case you wanted to know
This has to be one of the coolest videos ever.how have I only just found your channel? Bela Lugosi is one of my fave actors of all time . Him as Dracula is iconic. Thankyou for this video 👍🏻
Where's Jessica!!!??? This was cool. No need to apologize, we enjoy all of your adventures. Just keep being careful. Rock On!!!

Where is Jessica?
O.M.G. A beautiful video with some amazing footage. And to get the actual shot lined up from Dracula was PHENOMINAL. Speaking as someone who is terrified of heights even when you pointed the camera down from the peak of Vasquez rocks my stomach lurched. I'm just so pleased you got down safely.
Hey grimm life, if you want to check out some more of those rocks, check out Corriganville park movie ranch in Simi Valley. I go there all the time. I'm five minutes away. Lots of films. Not many horror films. It's about four miles from Spahn ranch off Santa Susana pass road.

You’re brave to climb up there. I never would have made it to the top.
I really enjoy your hunts for movie sites. This hike was great!!
Ok I know logically it’s 4 months later and I’ve seen you in other more recent videos...but your climb made me so nervous 😬!!! I truly appreciate what you do to entertain us! The view here was gorgeous!
That made my legs wobble... insane/intense... 😲 reminded me of climbing to the summit of the Untersberg mountain in Austria last year which was covered in knee high snow... brave for your passion... awesome vid...
I love the landscape of the west. I lived in El Centro CA, about a 25 minute drive to the Mexico border. I drove to San Diego and the desert landscape was breath taking. I'm in north Florida now.
I was gonna say you're channeling your inner Spider-Man by climbing the rock. But you said it yourself Michael. You're a real Daredevil instead. Happy Halloween!
This channel has become my go to I love watching both of you and all your content keep up the amazing channel
Bravo! Excellent view! It is amazing!
White on white translucent black capes back on the rack...Bela Lugosi's Dead...the bats have left the belltower, the victims have been bled, red velvet lines the black box...Bela Lugosi's Dead
Love that word Spooktacular definitely says it all being the spot of the classic horror film of the Dracula
Bela Lugosi will in deed be the best Count Dracula for sure. Listen to the children of the night. What music they make. One of lines from the movie. I like what Michael called a parking lot. San Andreas fault line. Has fixed the place up a bit. This looks like a fun day trip. Todays vampires are good. A true classic never go's out of style. ❤
So cool that you took the climb yourself and didn’t send the drone to do the hard work for you.

I was looking forward to watching this video but I had no idea how amazing it would be! Seeing those rock formations that line up with those shots is amazing to see!
Great job Michael on climbing that rock! No way I could ever do it!
Thank you for risking your life to give us a viewing experience. The location is definitely spectacular and I would love to be the one to seek out the areas for filming locations. We live on a beautiful continent and so much beauty is taken for granted.
It's call Star Trek rock also u need to go see the Lone Ranger rock off of Redmesa Road in Chatsworth,CA.
Watching it as we speak October 31 2023 ...such an amazing film...Bela Lugosi IS Dracula the best one ever I never get tired of watching all the Universal Studios Monster films they're all so beautiful to watch...
Another flawless shot recreation. Props for all the extra effort on this one. Grimm for Life!
Holy Heck!!! I could never have climbed those rocks. I'm glad Jessica didn't venture up. Yep, Michael, you're officially "crazy"🤣
Part of Dracula 1931 was filmed in a desert of all places? Now that's cool!
Dude!!! That was one amazing death defying video bro!!! I loved it!!! 🤘😎🤘 so freakin cool and I’m now a super happy subscriber and can’t wait for more and also watch all of your past library!!! This is one incredibly interesting KZread channel, thank you for your content!!!!!!! 🤘😁🤘
now I want to get out my Bela Lugosi Dracula DVDs to watch again, again, again, a millions times later, again
Afternoon guys 👋👍 hi everyone in the world
Know it’s been mentioned but seriously gotta give you some love for going after the OG universal crew. I would have never known the black lagoon was a visitable place or that these rocks were in Dracula as well
Geeze, at 15:50 I'm puffing with you! My heart almost skipped a beat when you looked down. Now you have bragging rights! Not to mention balls! Thanks for climbing so I don't have to😁😉
I love it...I live right by these famous rocks (for varied films) "Borgo Pass!" and Aqua Dulce is the area...see that road you're on (its next to the 14 freeway. You probably passed the ranch of wild animals owned/lives there Tippi Hedren of the Birds. I have been there too. I can imagine how you feel seeing this because its magnificent. On that Sierra Highway you most likely took to get there is a cafe called Halfway House and its used in many films PLUS a few of Clints. And.....in Santa Clarita (same area) on Railroad Ave near Lyons...is the Saugus Cafe (famous for films for many years) And...oh I love this one, by that Saugus Cafe is Clint's old trailer court he used in both Every Which Way But Loose films. And Valencia, (this same area) we film NCIS plus many more shows.
I was legit terrified for you climbing that rock but well done man and also the Dracula opening was shot one of the best shot lineups I have ever seen !!
I was waiting for an ankle sprain or broken bone on that slope! Well done Grimm! I see a once- great athlete in there somewhere.! 😁👍
Keep water with you even in the cold. You will still become dehydrated and not realize it. Don't want anything bad happen to you. Stay safe
The west is gorgeous!!another world!!! When I was there I saw wild horses. Now sadly they are killing them.❤💔
Just want to add my congrats and gratitude for all the time, effort, and information you've added to my cinematic memories.
You guys hit all the best spots, thank you👍 I need to watch the Spanish version of Dracula to see if they shot here also

no..its not the same
When Renfield's carriage goes downhill to the inn looks alot like the road to Shiloh Ranch of the Virginian.
Amazing climb!!beautiful view!!❤
Love your videos and the way you match the original filming location to the same location the way it looks today. I don't know if you already know this, but the Vazquez Mountains are named after a famous 19th century Mexican bandit, Tiburcio Vásquez. The old television series "Stories of the Century" did a complete episode about him where they mention this rock formation.
That rock formation is iconic and much larger than I expected after seeing your video. Well done!
The view from the top Is incredible!
Very cool. I can't tell if Michael is trembling from the physical exertion or out of fear but I imagine his answer would be simply "yes." Those are some amazing views. I may need to check it out myself someday.
Just back tracked to this video i must of missed. Brilliant job mate.
That was super cool.
Love this particular video , thank you for putting us right there !!!
Wow! Great effort climbing Vasquez Rocks 👏 I've never heard of them as I live in Australia.
Many films are filmed there includingBill and Teds bogus journey and a famous Star Trek scene as well.
Great video and well done on the climb. You’re an awesome guy!
That was some awesome camera work and I love that you are there in search of Dracula. Top of the world Vlad!
Nice job... love your passion for finding these movie locations!
That was such a beautiful view!!! I was there a few years ago but never to the top. Love your channel!!
So glad I discovered your channel - I've really been enjoying your videos. Keep up the great work!
Nice job matching up the movie shots. And the tour of place is great, really awesome and you had a perfect day with those clouds.
I was waiting for this one since you moved! I just left California but this is where I’d go hiking & where I still go any time I’m back
Damn good job getting to the top of Vasquez Rocks! Watching this vid reminds me of the time I hiked Angel's Landing in Zion Canyon, Utah......scary but thrilling!
I just discovered this channel and have really been enjoying it. I really like this guy. His interest in history, his excitement, his respect for property.. If I lived in California and had the means, I could totally see myself doing what he does, but not as adventurous. Also, for a lover of grimm things, he is always talking about how beautiful things are. A very interesting, positive channel.
Cool video, thanks for taking me along.
Oh myyy, this was amazing!! Thank you your channel is awesome. Greetings from Singapore by the way. Please stay safe!! 💀❤️
you are so lucky to be able to visit these places, i can only dream about this. thanks so much for doing these vids
That shot at 14:56 really kicked in that nauseating feeling I get from heights.
Captain Kirk fought the Gorn Captain on an episode of Star Trek TOS there!
This is why your so loved
Outstanding content! Thanks for doing this one, especially! You've got a new subscriber!
Hi, I'm from brazil. Watching your videos is like traveling to movie locations from my youth. Thank you.
We need more subscribers like 1 million y'all deserve it ❤️
Great channel man, your opening with the tune and the skeleton very cool, peace and safe travels.
so cooool, thank you
Great job! Thank you!
Thanks for keeping the classic universal monster movies alive they are the greatest I have a orange glow in the dark Dracula Tshirt with Bela Lugosi 's face on it
Dracula is my all time favorite so mesmerizing and alluring 🥰🤩 great location i can see why it is used in many films with the fault line there is destruction and life
Vasquez Rocks was our party grounds in the late seventies and eighties, I met Robert Wagner out there while filming an episode of Hart to Hart.
Watch out for The Gorn -- it likes to toss boulders. Sedimentary rocks which; over geologic time; have been "folded" and uplifted. Spectacular! Thanks Grimmlifecollective!
Vasquez rocks I used to go there when I was little
This has to be the most impressive location find. Mind blown.
currently watching "KUNG FU" On DVD and they shot the pilot out there at Vasquez rocks, then went over to Burbank for the rest, wondering if you could cover some of Kung Fu filming locations, or what you can, that would be interesting to see.
Great video. You have combined an iconic film with one of Southern California's most underappreciated areas.
Omgosh that was Brave & scary wow... thnks for such Awesome content my friends 🙏🏻🖤💯
