DRAB Interiors, COVERED Windows And RATTY Furnishings! 🤢 | The Unsellables | House to Home

This charming home offers plenty of potentials, but with its dark, drab interiors, covered windows, ratty brown furnishings, and dog mausoleum, the property is completely unsellable!
What do you think the main reason is to why this three-bedroom house isn't selling?
The Unsellables - Season 2 Episode 4 ""It's A Dog House"": Laura and Errol thought their semi-detached Edwardian home was soundproof… That is until the new neighbours - her ex-husband’s cousins - moved in next door. Now, the couple is desperate to sell the three-bedroom house, but after six weeks on the market, they haven’t received a single offer.
In order to match the home to its price tag, Sofie comes up with a plan to bring out its innate cottage charm. And while Anthony and the team get busy painting, updating the décor, and revealing the home’s features, Sofie intervenes with the agent/friend, and shows the couple what it takes to make a fantastic first impression.
The Unsellables - Can a slick makeover and big sales campaign help desperate homeowners sell their ‘unsellable’ homes? Packed with practical advice and tips to add real value to your house, this bold series hosted by Sofie Allsopp, shows viewers how to transform unwanted properties into unstoppable homes.

    Always amazes me that owners can't see what they are doing to make their home undesirable, but even more amazed that buyers can't see how little it would take to make the house desirable!!

    I'm always a bit flummoxed when I see some of these "unsalable" houses. I have trouble understanding how, when you walk into a house like this, you can't see all it would take is a relatively small bit of money to make it shine. Total kitchen remodel, I understand being iffy as that's way more work and money, but a fresh coat of paint, removing a closet, changing curtains, and popping in new lights isn't insurmountable.

    I think in pictures, my husband thought in words and numbers. I loved redoing houses and he just let me pick them out because he couldn’t see what the renovations would do. Some people cannot visualize.

    People lack imagination, and I'm told that especially in the Toronto housing market it has to be just right. Most people are not skilled at seeing what is needed - even small changes that are easily and inexpensive. You have to do it for them. Which is why I end up buying houses cheap and transform them while living in them on just a minuscule budget. Of course there's no such thing as a "cheap" house since Covid!

  • @theresekatie4841

    @theresekatie4841

    I think it's just the sheer level of work it requires. It might be a cheaper house but you then have to add $5000-$20000 to upgrade everything and take the time to do it. Some people simply suck at DIY, gardening and painting. And they never include the labourer costs in their makeovers and renovations. If you can't do stuff yourself hiring a contractor for ever little thing won't be cheap.

    I was so confused at first. Where I live what these lovely people were selling would not be considered a house, it would be considered half a duplex. We might rent half that duplex, but when it came time to sell, it would be the whole house (both sides) or nothing. Personally I would never buy half of a duplex knowing that I would zero control over who/what moved into the other half.

  • @AB2B

    Have to agree, $400 on bed linen is a bit much, and it doesn't do any more to sell the house than some very nice $50-$60 sets. I did think the lights were okay, especially since they weren't going all out to install recessed lights, though if I bought the house it might be one of the first things I did (can't say, as we didn't see the bathroom or other bedrooms).
