Writing in from India. I want to thank Dr Campbell for highlighting the Vitamin D importance. I was able to increase my vitamin D3 value from 14.9 to 54 in 65 days, by siting barechested in the sun everyday for 30 minutes, for the last 2 months and supplementing with D3 capsules 6000 iu, taken at breakfast time, with foods that I made sure contained fat. Tks a million. Feeling great.

About 9 years ago I found out through testing that my vitamin d level was 8. I'm in the US and had been deemed disabled, following 2 spine surgeries, a medication induced renal tubal disorder that put me in hospital for 9 days I was in pretty sad shape. It took a few years of daily supplementation of D3 to get my level back to the 80s. I take 10k d3 daily. I'm in my mid 60s but I feel so much better than I did in my 40s when my body was crashing and falling to pieces. I haven't had a cold in years. Anxiety is gone, depression is gone. So many years wasted taking pharmaceutical products when it was all related to nutritional issues. Take your vitamins and minerals. Clean up your diet as best you can. Get dirty.

Yes, a guy I used to work with was always exhausted and lethargic. I saw him sometime after I stopped working there and could see a noticeable difference in him. I asked what had changed and he said he'd been diagnosed as vitamin D deficient and told me he'd most likely been deficient for a very long time. He'd suffered from depression since his teenage years and supposed that since the vitamin D supplements had made such a marked difference to his depression (not just his energy levels) he believed he must have been deficient most of his adult life. He was actually given injections at first since his levels were so low and tablets to continue with.

I Have been following the vitamin D topic for the last 3 month's and, am totally amazed at the general lack of knowledge & awareness that the British medical population are presenting to the British public. I've learnt that it is important to take the D3 version of the vitamin due to it's higher potency and, to also take it with vitamin K2. Vitamin K2 prevents calcification build up within the blood vessels. I've also learnt that you should avoid taking the tablet with tea or coffee beverages, as this can effect the potency & impact. Many thanks Dr Campbell for your amazing videos that explain medical jargon in a simple and informative manner.

I'd really like to find confirmation on that. My college physio classes have no info on that claim. Either he explained it poorly, or he's wrong. There are no live cells in the skin's sebaceous layer, and the outermost layers of skin are dead and very little actually gets absorbed through the skin into the body or bloodstream. (although many mommy bloggers inaccurately claim otherwise) The whole purpose of all the layers of the integumentary systems is to grow and push outward. I'm very intrigued with his info.

Well, I have been ill from vitamin D deficiency before while working the night shift. I am so grateful I was able to retire two years ago. I spend more time in the sun, and have no stress. Of course, I have had skin cancer, so I'm supposed to use sunscreen. Quite the balancing act, but the key is "time of day exposure", as well as amount of time spent... sunscreen goes on during the hottest part of afternoon. I've known for many years the enormous benefits of Vitamin D as well as sun exposure. I shared this with all my friends fir many years and I was always careful to point out that it's important not to wash it off! Another point I'd always make is that sunscreen would block the production. Then a couple of years ago I started researching the topic again and came across a study showing that vitamin D is still produced in high amounts even when sunscreen is applied! I also came across a PhD professor giving a lecture and explaining that vitamin D is produced within the the skins cells and therefore it couldn't be washed off! I felt a bit foolish for having told so many people about not washing and not to wear sunscreen! Now I'm back to thinking that maybe my original advise was correct after all. I wish this question could be answered once and for all. So much conflicting information out there. If anyone has links to a well researched study explaing exactly where vitamin D is produced.....ie in the outer skin, inner skin or surface oils that could be washed off please can you post below. Cheers

If you think about it logically, you realize that UV cant penetrate the skin deep enough to produce the D inside the skin. Therefore it makes perfect sense that it is produced on the surface where there is UV light. The fact that animals groom to ingest vitamin D is amazing.

@@BrianRaynor Excellent information that you posted. I think the best argument presented in support of vitamin D being produced within the skin, was that if it's being produced in the outer oils, then blacks should produce just as much vitamin D than whites in the sun, considering that the melanin is within the skin! This would indeed suggest that at least a large amount of the production is going on at a deeper level ie under the pigmented or within the pigmented layer. Thanks for posting👍

Indeed. That is the way to measure 45 degrees. But of course, nothing is black and white, and the UV-B fraction doesn't suddenly dissappear when going from 46 to 44 degrees incidence. That is just an example of over-simplification to explain the general trend to people who didn't study physics. 😊 As a scientist, i would be interested in a little bit more detail, on how the UV-B correlates with angle. Should be pretty much an exponential decay over the length of travel through the atmosphere, with the distance increasing as 1/sin(angle), with some additional dependencies that i will ignore. That means already at 45 degrees, you get 67% of the dose you get at normal incidence, 90 degrees. But even at 35 degrees, you still have 50%, thus far from falling to zero. For smaller angles, it then drops rather fast. At 10 degrees the dose is less than 1%, so it is true that evening sun quickly gets useless for Vit D. The real equation will be a bit more complex, but e(1/sin(a)) should be a lot better approximation than a digital cut-off function at 45 degrees. 😎

Thanks Dr John. This is so important. I am a retired actuary who has worked since 1974 in health, mainly in Australia and New Zealand but I have also worked in most countries in South East Asia, The Indian sub continent and, on the odd occasion, in Europe. Looking at the statistics coming out of WHO there is a pattern of excellent results in New Zealand, Australia, so far South Africa and probably Argentina. All of these countries get a lot of sunshine in summer. The virus hit these countries towards their end of summer. Australia and New Zealand have also had pretty nice Autumns. I find it hard to believe that these countries, which implemented social distancing and border controls not much differently than most European countries should have infection and death rates often less then 1% of the European countries. It therefore seems to me that Australia and New Zealand in particular, were particularly lucky with the timing of the outbreak of the pandemic in their countries. Hopefully South Africa and Argentina will also prove to be lucky too. But this also leads to a further conclusion. This virus, like other respiratory illnesses caused by corona viruses (coughs and colds), is principally season dependent. If this is so then there is a greater likelihood of a second wave occurring in these countries during winter and early spring, which if there is widespread awareness pf vitamin D levels and use of supplements may be largely averted.

Debbie Lee, if you listen to the video. They say vitamin D is found on outer most layer of the skin after it react with the sun 13:00 , body need 24hrs after sun exposure to absorb it. If you take a shower after being exposed to sun then you’re washing all vitamin D away 14:49 . In video they mention a study where people from Florida found to be Vit D deficient though Florida is sunny state, due to washing away vitamin D during shower.

I am in the US. I was hospitalized at age 29 for microcytic anemia, my red blood cells were less than 10% and pale, small and low mobility. I was given transfusions, infusions, and invasive procedures to find 'the bleed'. There was none. My blood revealed more than a dangerous level of iron, red blood cells, and O2, but also that I had both a vit D and vit C deficiency. I literally had scurvy, an American born and raised light skin and eyes (low melanin and in a southern state so I was not at risk I thought). But growing up we never had a good diet, we had a low budget processed food diet and I never took a vitamin before. Good ol American working class, no money for healthcare or healthy nutrition. I am so much better now that I take a dozen high quality supplements including an annually renewed prescription of vit D and liposomal C. I had learned to live with exhaustion, pale skin, aches, brain fog, head aches, gum disease, bruising, hair loss, slow healing, ice cravings, all but the last I thought was just being a mom. Each dr remarked that I should of not been able to talk, but I had slowly come to that state so gradual, it sneaks up on you.

Yet in UK MSM and socialists / liberals state that black people have suffered most in UK because of Socio/economic reasons. They are poor etc. Look at Thailand poor, outside most of the time, good unadulterated food and very low infection rate or deaths from Covid. They cannot accept that we all started off as black from Africa but evolved into white because evolution made allowances for the reduced Vitamin D levels caused by the reduction in sunlight which happens naturally the further north you go. It is that simple.

Every year, come January & February (in UK) I get a long lasting low level chest infection. Lo and behold when the sun comes out in spring and the sun comes out it's noticeable the chest gets better. Time for some winter Vitamin D I guess!

The wife and I have been taking 5,000 IU per day (well 3 out of 4 days on average) for about two weeks now. She is disabled and rarely goes outside and I work nightshift so sunlight is not a major factor in our lives. Definitely going to have vitamin D levels checked next time we go in for our A1c tests. We will have a baseline to work with at that point. We are due for our checkups as soon as the lockdown restrictions are eased in our area which should be within the next few weeks. Started taking the D3 due to your videos and our lifestyle which would make it most likely that we are deficient in D3. Will know more after the checkup.

I would like to ask you a question. Do you have an email address that I could send it to you or should I just put it on the KZread channel comments. I think that it's a very important question about this pandemic.
